2001 v10 ... I have a thumping noise under acceleration... also hear it if brake torquing.. I do not hear the sound if in park or neutral...while riding down road the sound goes away when you let of the gas. Torque converter has been replaced.... exhaust manifold bolts are ok too. Been to 3 places and no one can seem to pin point it or no where to begin...

View 6 RepliesI am original owner of a 2000 CRV, it's in really good shape and has been maintained by me on about 99% of all repairs it has 140k total. I have this thumping noise coming through the floorboard by my feet, under moderate acceleration and it goes away at just about any speed when you quit accelerating. Sounded like a bad halfshaft, I had already replaced one so I did the other side, got worse. So I replaced the one that had been in for just 2 years--no better. Asked the auto parts store for a recommendation and went to that shop, they balanced the tires, checked rotors and concluded I was buying junky rebuild half shafts. I had them replace the one they thought was bad with another rebuild, just as bad or worse...
I took home and put in both sides with new halfshafts, I also noticed some play in jackshaft bearing and replaced that as well....no better. Shop claims that a website they subscribe to says that 50% of aftermarket halfshafts for CRV are no good. But honestly we are 5 for 5 bad, last two were new from NAPA. Pulled things apart and checked wheel bearings left side was sticky so had machine shop press one into the knuckle, right side was done about 14 months ago. Also disconnected drive line and drove it as a 2 wheel drive vehicle....no better. Would a broken tire belt only make noise on acceleration or after a corner when you accelerate? Is this a possible indication of my transaxle going out? ---
Ok have and 2001 excursion v10 auto the make good heat but when you start to like climb a hill it alternates between the floor and defrost then when you knoll the hill it goes back to the vent heat. I guessing a vacuum problem.
View 6 RepliesUnlike Ap24, who has a post/thread about his CONSTANT noise under acceleration, mine is only happening once. For instance say I'm sitting at a stop light, and start accelerating, it's almost like the body shifts backwards. When I come to a stop and jab the brakes a little, its like it shifts forward. My dad seems to think it is the U joint.. but i'm not convinced as it does it on deceleration.
View 11 RepliesHave a 2005 Hyundai Elantra 2.0, 4-dr sedan, with 120,000 ,miles on it. Since we bought it in 2007, there occasionally was a thumping noise, seemed like from the rear. Well now, I have just about changed everything you can think of on this engine. But when I put in gear, or am stopped at red light the cars idle is terrible, runs very rough. Someone said maybe the motor mounts? If so how can I tell, approx cost, and are there only the two?
View 2 RepliesOk - I admit, I don't have a good description of what's going on, but it's not normal. When I accelerate slowly, or go up a hill, I'm hearing a "rattling" sort of noise that did not used to be there. I have heard it also when slowly decelerating.
I need to crawl under and look, but my big concern is I'm about to go on a 2000 mile trip with a small horse trailer. Could this be a festering major engine, transmission, or otherwise problem?
Noise on acceleration, sounds like a miss but engine feels good and no check engine light, eventually goes away, not there under a load either, idk totally stumped.
View 10 RepliesMy passenger side front wheel is making a thump, thump, thump sound when turning. The wheel is smooth when turning, but when returning to straight it kicks everyone 1/32 of a turn.
I know my sway bar bushings are bad, but I doubt this would be caused from that?
Should I be checking ball joints, hubs? It's been like this for 2-3 weeks

2001 Ex 7.3 4x4 with 4" lift (6" with 37" Pro Comp tires)
All new front end steering components.
All new Shocks (bilstein)
All tires properly inflated to same PSI
All new brake rotors, calipers, caliper mounts, and pads.
When under hard acceleration the vehicle pulls to the left and I have to compensate by steering to the right. Under deceleration the vehicle pulls to the right and I have to compensate by steering to the left.
I am about to change all four brake lines to Braided Stainless Steel lines, replace all leaf spring bushings with polyurethane, and install a rear anti-sway bar. I'm going through this methodically enough or am I just building a brand new truck one part at a time?
I have a 2001 5.4 V8 with 55K miles and the tow package. On acceleration the engine makes a ticking noise. Engine seems to run fine, no misfire.
View 14 RepliesMy '01 Excursion gets a vibrating noise between 70-75mph. I've located it to the 2nd row drivers side seat. Only does it when it's in the upright position. I can hit the seat and have it make it briefly. But I can't locate the cause.

Recently, when i turn my X completely off and remove the key, I hear something that sounds like it runs on and off. I popped the hood and it sounded like it was coming from the EVAP canister. It will engage several times, even while my vehicle is off. I am not sure if this problem is related but sometimes when I turn my key off and remove it, my air will still be running if the switch for the air isn't turned off. Could this be related and point to a bad ignition switch? Or is this a coincidence and my ignition switch is bad along with a whole other string of problems within my EVAP system?
I have a 2001 Excursion v10. Every time I turn my AC on, as soon as it engages, there is a very loud clicking/ticking noise coming from the engine. What this is? Is it the compressor going out?
View 14 RepliesReplaced front leaf springs to procomp, now i got a clunking noise from right leaf spring rear eye(and a little bit from the left).
Can it be that:
I've tighten them to much? Wrong way (big eye is in front)? Got about 4" lift in front and haven't received rear leveling kit yet so the angel is wrong?
I have an 01 Excursion. I tried to start it this morning and the radio and lights came on, but all it would do is make a really loud clicking noise. If the battery was dead would the lights come on? My friend who picked me up to take me to work also told me my battery connections needed cleaned...
View 7 RepliesI have a 2001 v10 with about 157k miles on it. Recently (within last 2 months) I am getting a ticking noise that is pretty constant. It doesn't seem to increase with rpms and I can barely hear it with the hood open- I hear it much better with the hood closed. It seems to start about 2-3 seconds after I start the car (when fan clutch engages?) and seems to be coming from the front middle of the engine. I do not see any broken exhaust studs. I do also occasionally have a ticking noise at 1500 rpms (only at 1500 rpms- not sure if it's related or not). I made a short video- not sure if you can hear the noise.
View 8 RepliesMy 01 Excursion Limited 6.8L 2wd is having what I think is a tranny/shifting issue? Mileage is about 160K. She has been doing just fine and no recent work or out of the ordinary maintenance/replacements..
Got in her this morning to go and noticed that the tranny seemed different. First thing I noticed was that the shift form 1 to 2 was long in coming and then sort of hard / thump when it did change. Then is seems to rev higher in the rpm range than normal when going into 3rd maybe 4th.? I pulled over into a parking lot, turned it off and did a brief inspection of the underside, fluid, etc.. and did not find anything strange. Started her back up and went to leave when I heard a popping / thumping noise from the tranny. Threw it in neutral and reved the motor to see what it sounded like and it was good. Back in drive again and the noise was there. Seemed to go away after getting up to say 45/50mph but the shifts were still off. Took her back home and now trying to decide whats first on diagnosing this issue?
I have a 1997 F150 that has been making an odd noise (something new and different). It seems to be coming from the engine-ish area. It makes a hollow whooshing kind of noise, followed by a thump/thud that I can feel through the accelerator (think frighting off beat base drum living under the hood). It sounds like a very large valve of some kind closing. It does not do this all the time, and both times it has done it have been at low altitudes- might not mean anything but my truck doesn't seem to like low altitudes- it idles low there. It has done this twice now- once 2 or 3 times in a minute for about 50 miles and then it just stopped miracle!.
I added oil in the interim of that and I thought maybe that had worked- it was embarrassingly low- took 4 quarts to get it to read half way up the dipstick. I might have murdered my truck. It did it again when I was on a long trip, coming home. It only did it 4 or 5 times. My truck kindly listened to my desperate plea and hasn't made a peep since, which means I made it home but now I can't get my mechanic to have a clue. I tried that the first time and he said "hmm." That was incredibly useful. So do I need a new truck? I might be able to afford a 1998 model.
Just picked up an 01 Excursion V10 for $2900 with 170k on the odometer. Has some damage on the left quarter panel, but it runs perfectly.
Since I bought it, there has been a squeaking noise that I could feel underneath the driver's side floorboard. I figured it was body mounts. To find out if that was the case, I first sprayed both the sway bar bushings and the body mounts with some oil. The noise went away, but came back the next day.
The second time, I sprayed only the body mounts, and again the noise went away, only to return again. Aside from which, the sway bar bushings look like they were installed very recently.
So, it's the body mounts, but I've come across threads here and elsewhere that these were a common issue, but I haven't seen a fix for them. I assume new mounts would eventually develop the same noise.
What am I looking at here? Just some new mounts or do I need to do something else?
