Ford - Explorer :: 2000 - Coolant Leak From The Spark Plug Area

Sep 11, 2016

I used to have a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0. Loved the truck but sold it because I didn't have a place to store it.

So I bought a 2000 E.B. Explorer! I love it thus far, I was doing a tune-up and now I hate it. I was changing the spark plugs and one of the spark plugs had a lot of rust around it. As I was chipping the rust away so I could get a socket around it coolant started to come out right below the spark plug

I have attached pictures too.

I don't know what this could be. I have done my research, anything from the lower intake manifold gasket to a cracked head. Need info about this type of leak? its no where near any gaskets, I have a friend that says I could have hit a coolant chamber but I wasn't banging hard at all.

Ford - Explorer :: 2000 - Heavy Oil Leak / Steady Dripping From Inspection Plate Area Where Engine Meets Trans

Question about my dads 2000 explorer with the 4.0, he just noticed it was leaking oil heavily. Added 2quarts and drove it home. I looked under it and the oil is dripping very steadily from what appears to be the inspection plate area where engine meets trans. Have y'all ever seen a rear main seal fall out or cause a leak this heavy? I know we will have to clean it and re check but this is all I have seen at this point. Is there any other seal or issue that could cause this from inside the bell housing area or nearby?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Coolant In Spark Plug Hole

Okay so I was getting the misfire in cylinder 3 so I pulled the plug out and it had coolant in it. Does that mean it needs a new intake manifold gasket? That is what the guy told me at the parts store. Also can I drive it like this or will it damage the engine?

Ford - Explorer :: 2002 - Antifreeze Buildup On Top Of Spark Plug 6

My 2002 Explorer is having a problem. It started running rough suddenly and when I had it checked the # 6 coil pack on the spark plug was bad. We replaced it and it still ran rough. Found fluid on top of spark plug. At first thought it was oil due to the color but later figured out it was antifreeze. We do have a cracked thermostat housing that we tried to seal up a few months ago. Doesn't seem to be coming from there. This is my only reliable transportation.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2001 - Leak Right To Spark Plug Behind Hose?

I found a leak today on my 2001 Ford F150 Super Crew, 5.4 engine. In the picture, it was leaking to the right of the spark plug, behind the hose. It was bubbling up from the metal. It hasn't been overheating except when I got home and idled with the AC on. What I'm facing?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2006 F250 Misfire - Coolant In Spark Plug Well #8?

I have a 2006 F250 5.4L. I was getting a noticeable misfire after not driving the truck for a while. Mode 6 revealed that cylinder #8 was misfiring.

I took off the coil/boot and there was coolant on the tip of the boot and some at the bottom of the spark plug well.

I cleaned everything up and put everything back together and that took care of that problem when I started the car. I also stuck a wad of paper towel by the intake manifold nearest spark plug number 8 and tightened the manifold bolts down a little. Some of them were not as tight as others.

I went back today and started the vehicle and it has the same problem again!

I took a look at the paper towel and it was totally dry! There is no coolant around the top of the spark plug well - only in the bottom of it. Where is this coolant even coming from? There are no coolant lines near cylinder #8. Is this a head gasket leak?

I have taken a look at the head gasket and that doesn't seem possible since the head gasket does not seal around the spark plug well at all as far as I can tell.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Spark Plug Blown Out

2000 Excursion with the 5.4 in her. Lots of miles. Used only to tow a travel trailer. Blew out the #3 coil packet and spark plug today. Have to pull the head for sure. My question is why? Is there a more severe problem as to why it did this? Or is my old girl just worn out. 270,000 miles.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 V10 - 3 Spark Plug Blown Out In A Month

I bought a 2000 excursion a month ago and have already had 3 plugs blow out on me. They've been repaired professionally with time sert but the mechanic is starting to wonder if back pressure is building up causing this. He's suggesting to replace the catalytic converter as it's original and has 120,000 miles on it. He's made it clear that he doesn't know if this is the cause but to lose 3 in a month worries him. Is there anything else I can do?

Ford Excursion :: 2000 V10 (lifted) - Blew A Spark Plug?

I recently became the owner of a 2000 Ford Excursion V10 (limited) with lots of extras (5.5 inch lift, dual exhaust, 37 inch tires, a 2005 front end, etc).

The intent is to use the excursion as my winter driver, towing vehicle and people hauler (things my 2010 mustang is terrible at). Unfortunately, my 5th time ever driving it, I was pulling out of my driveway and accelerating when the engine blew a spark plug. Since I do not have the tools to install a helicoil, I have taken it to the local shop to get repaired.

I am now concerned about the remaining plugs, and the general reliability of the motor. It has ~200,000 miles on it, and multiple previous owners. I have no way of knowing what work was done on it in the past. I did check all of the fluids when I first got it to ensure they where still good, but are there any other common issues with these V10's that I should check? Can I do anything to prevent any further spark plug blow outs in the future?

Yaris/Scion & Vitz :: Code P0301 Came Up - Water / Coolant In Number 1 Spark Plug Well

2004 echo, 109,000 km. P0301 came up and upon investigation I discovered that my no.1 spark plug well was filled with what I believe to be coolant. The top of the valve cover (where the coil packs are seated) was bone dry. The oil, from what I can see on the dip stick looks ok - I intend to replace to investigate further. Coolant is low. Spark plug wells for cylinders 2 - 4 are ok.

LS / MKZ :: 2000 Lincoln - Spark Plug Wells Filled With Oil

I bought a 2000 lincoln LS from my father-in-law knowing it had some issues. We were incorrectly told that it needed cam shaft sensors, but I had it checked out myself today.

4 (out of 8) cylinders are misfiring. He opened it up and saw that on the right bank 1 of the spark plug wells was filled with oil, and the other 3 the tubes are seeping. He also said 3 of the coils need replaced. Whoever had the car originally replaced 3 coils (they're 3 different part numbers on the coils they used).

I've been researching and the first suggestion is changing the valve cover gaskets and removing the oil to see what problems if any it eliminates.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Small Oil Leak From Plug Area - High Mileage

Ive been using synthetic 5w-20 for about 7k miles on my 09 corolla s, has hit 100k. Was looking under the engine and small amount of oil on the drain plug. I had the drain plug replaced about 15k miles ago and not sure if thats where its actually leaking from.

Should I switch to high mileage oil? Ive used 5w-30 high mileage awhile ago to go with the good ol oil consumption with this year engine and didnt like the dip in mpg's and felt like the car couldnt run as well as it should. I switched to synthetic to take better care of the engine after using high mileage for about 6k miles.

Question 1 - Should I switch back to high mileage?
Questions 2 - Should I use Lucas oil leak product? (I use the gas cleaner)

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Coolant Leak And Smoking From The Middle Of Engine Area

The wife and I were driving back to Sacramento yesterday. It was pretty hot around 95 when we left Stonyford, CA after a day of trail riding with our dirt bikes. From the staging area to the freeway, the distance was about 40 miles of slow twisty roads. We average around 30-45 miles per hour with full AC running. Once we got to the freeway and drove about 20 miles, we pulled to a McDonalds at which point I noticed a weird smell and smoke coming from under the hood. We opened the hood and notices smoke coming from the middle of the engine. I also noticed coolant leaking from under the engine. I waited an hour and then pour about 3 gallons of concentrate coolant back into the system. It seems to stopped leaking. We drove another 45 miles to home. Coolant hasn't leaked. I can't take this truck out until I figure this out and fix it.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Clicking Noise And Spark On Belts Area

I have an 05 accent and about 6 months ago I started to notice a clicking sound coming from the belts area ( it sounds exactly like a BBQ grill igniter when it's pressed), the sound starts as soon as I start the car and stays pretty much the whole time, I had the car lifted by my mechanic and he discovered the problem in one of the belts ( not sure what is called but it's the one at the very bottom of the belts, the first one you see when you lift the car ), the spark is seen at the edge of the pulley or where the belt sits on the pulley. The mechanic was puzzled about this, he recommended replacing the crank sensor as a first step, the car runs fine and there is no other symptoms or issues

Ford - Explorer :: 2010 V6 - Coolant Leak - Level Goes Little Down?

I have 2010 explorer. I have to add almost 200 ml of coolant in my reservoir every week. there is no sign of a leak from anywhere even at thermostat manifold as well. but one question, when the car is running for at least 1 hour, the coolant level at reservoir shall be around FULL HOT Level and when car cools down overnight, it should be at around FULL COLD LEVEL. is it right? if yes, then my level remains little more than FULL COLD when the car is hot and when it cools over night, level goes little down than FULL COLD. like this every week I have to add almost 200 ml of coolant. radiator CAP is okay and I replaced it few months back. no apparent sign of leak. any clue what can be reason?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - Blinking CEL / Misfire / Oil On Spark Plug

2000 Jetta AEG ... An intermittent CEL light turned into a blinking CEL after a few months. Checked codes and it threw a P0303 (misfire on Cyl 3).

Pulled the plugs and found this:

There was oil dripping off of the plug from Cyl 3.

I last changed the plugs in July 2014 and only drove around 10k miles this past year.

When I changed them back then though Cly 3 looked like this:

Before I changed them back then I had an oil cooler gasket fail on the freeway and oil shot everywhere under my hood. Obviously oil is in there and it is causing problems.

I have read online and most of what I have read says that it's likely an issue with the VCG (Valve Cover Gasket) or the PCV (Pressure Control Valve) that is allowing oil to get to that part of the spark plug tube. I've also seen some non VW stuff talking about replacing the spark plug tubes.

Also it does appear that there is a little bit of oil around the threads of the other plugs but nothing getting to the all the way to the tip around the electrode.

I have pulled the plugs, wires and the ignition coil as well ... I'm ready for whatever. I am by no means a mechanic but I am capable of following instructions and doing what is needed. My problem is generally finding out what is needed to be fixed.

Ford - Explorer :: Coolant Leak / Puddle On Driver Side

I looked at a 99 with a 5.0 and noticed a puddle on the driver side, a little below and inboard of the power steering pump but outboard of the water pump. The puddle was higher than the water pump weep hole and it was in a racetrack oval shape. I was unable to see where the leak originated and I couldn't tell exactly what part/housing the puddle was sitting on. Obviously, the leak had originated from above.

I don't think it was coming from the upper radiator hose as I remember the upper radiator hose being more on the passenger side and I don't recall any heater hoses in the area. The only things that came to mind as the potential leak source were the intake manifold and the sensors on it. Are the 5.0 intakes prone to coolant leaks? Other than hoses, what else would be leaking coolant on the driver side?
