Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: No Electrical Power At All

Nov 27, 2013

Truck ran fine yesterday. Go out to get in it today and the dome and door lights do not come on. No chime when inserting key, turn key and nothing. No dash lights, no head lights, no clicks, no buzz. Absolutely nothing.

I checked and the battery has 12.8Vdc. Both master fuses on the firewall read good. All fuses in the under hood fuse box read good. I am confused. Where to start looking?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 1999 - Electrical Power Drop Suddenly?

It just doesn't end lately. I've noticed over the last several months, when it rains and I start the engine I would hear an underhood squealing noise. Like a belt or pulley. After the engine warmed up a bit, and the engine bay dried out, the squeal would go away. After a rain about a month back, I opened the hood to listen but wasn't able to locate the exact source of the squeal. Never gave it any more thought.....until this evening. I was driving in our New England Nor'easter in 4 whl drive mode with the wipers on HI, the defroster and blower on HI, and the headlamps and dash lights illuminated, when suddenly the dash lights dimmed about 40%, the blower slowed down about the same, and the wiper speed dropped as well from HI to about low speed. This was shortly followed by an underhood squeal which sounded a lot like the one I've experienced recently. After about 20 secs, the squeal would disappear and the power would quickly return to all accessories! This happened about 4 or 5 times and I returned home and parked it as I did not want to be stranded during the blizzard with a dead truck. The battery voltage gauge needle on the dash never seemed to move so I'm a bit stumped.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Electrical Malfunctions - Temp Gauge Pegs Without Getting Hot?

I just bought a 97 f-150 from my dad, there are some electrical issue's but the main one seems to be battery drain.

I have noticed with the truck off key in my pocket, the a/c doors keep trying to move and the a/c head has power to it.

I know the engine has been replaced, with about 20k on it.

The temp gauge pegs w/o getting hot, and it even turned over once while we were getting in the truck. Again key in pocket.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Electrical Charge Coming From Bumper Occasionally

2000 F150 5.4... I was cleaning the battery posts tonight. I was leaning against the bumper when I touched the positive cable and got voltage into my knee. I have had weird electrical problems occasionally.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Electrical Plugs To Fuel Injectors Seemed Really Loose

When doing my last spark plug change I noticed that the electrical plugs to the fuel injectors seemed really loose. The plastic tabs on the harness plugs don't even lock onto the injector plug. Its actually amazing that they don't vibrate loose or stay electrically connected. The plugs are not cracked or damaged that I can see. Is this a problem? I feel that I should replace the plugs with something that has more of a positive "grip" to the FI plug....

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Electrical Malfunction - After Start Up No Gauge Moves / Temp / Oil / Battery?

I own a 1997 ford f150 V6 engine and I have problems with the electrics. I turn the key on and the engine starts up runs great but I then look at the gauges and not one moves at all the. No fuel when i have just filled up,no tep,no oil,no battery all read nil. I went a drive and the speedo reads 0 it does not move but the truck drives great. Could it be a fuse, does a fuse control the gauges, which one it could be. I have lifted the hood and under the hood on the drivers side there is a box with small and larger fuses.There is one that is very small and the colour is white that's blown. Would you no what that fuse is for.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1997 V6 - Lost All Electrical Power When Turned Truck Off

I have a 97 Ranger, v6 4.0L, 2wd, 5spd. It has been my daily driver since 1999. I was driving to work today and when I pulled into the parking spot, I turned the truck off, and I thought it was odd that the locks didn't pop up when I shut the truck off.

I then realized that I had completely lost all electrical power. Tried to turn the truck on and nothing. No click. No dome light, no horn, no nothing.

My battery reads 12.5 volts and the connections are all clean on the battery. I checked all the fuses and they are all good. What else should I check? This may be the first time this truck has ever stranded me before.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Electrical Power Fluctuations EGT Gauge Failure

I am on my third EGT gauge. My mechanic installed it as per "auto meter" specifications. He told me, the only reason he could find that the gauges have been failing is low voltage output. I have an onboard compressor for my airbag suspension and every time I start my vehicle it runs to fill up the air system. The voltage drops to 11.1V. It comes up once all is running and the compressor quits. is there any such thing as surge/brownout protection for these systems?

Ford Wiring/Electrical :: 2003 E250 - Lost Power To Circuit 124?

'03 E250 connector C3136 located by the left lower B Pillar---have lost power to the Brown wire which seems to be designated as Circuit 124.

Which fuse controls that circuit? I have a factory EVTM but I can't find what fuse to check. And here I though I knew something?!

Chevrolet - 1500 :: 1997 - No Electrical Power When Turned The Key In Ignition

I have 1997 chevrolet Silverado k1500. When I turned the key the other day, there was no electrical power. No gauges. No lights. I checked the battery and terminals and those are fine. When I turn the key slightly the (P) park illuminates but when i turn the key further it goes out. Then there is a buzzing sound from just to the right of the brake pedal. When I depress the brake pedal, the buzzing ceases but then a relay from under the hood in the relay center buzzes. Then when I turn the lights on, all buzzing ceases. But, the lights are not illuminated. I switched the buzzing relay with the a/c relay but that did nothing. I am wondering if there is a main relay that controls all the electrical power?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Intermittent Electrical Voltage Readings?

My Volt gauge on the dash has started reading around 10V with the key on waiting on the GP's. Batteries read +/- 12.6V with a DVM in a static state, no key.

But, quickly as best as I could see the reading on the DS battery drop to around 10V with the key on, GP's cycling. Cranking drops down around 8Vish.

After starting the reading on the DS battery is back up to 10V. This lasts anywhere from 30 seconds to a few min. Then it jumps up to the expected 14.6V reading.

I cleaned up the battery terminals and clamps while doing my turbo,and all the connections are tight.

Ford Wiring/Electrical :: No Electrical Power After New Solenoid

So I'm writing this for my friend but he has a 1978 F-150 with a 1969 390 in it. He recently had a problem where his starter got stuck and it lit the wires connected to the solenoid up in flames. Well anyways we replaced all the wires that were attached to the solenoid and replaced the solenoid and the starter also. But after wiring it up it has no power whatsoever. The battery is also brand new and the fuse links are fine. What is causing this?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2002 - Won't Crank And Start - Electrical Malfunction?

I have a 2002 F-250 with a 7.3.

I have been having a no crank, no start issue off and on for a while. batteries are new, cables are new, connections are clean, and starter has been rebuilt and checked. I bought a "starter relay" which i thought was the top solenoid in this picture. I also replaced the lower solenoid in the picture. The bottom solenoid was replaced with what im sure is the correct replacement. The upper I think is wrong. It started but then shut down and will not restart. The upper solenoid also was very hot after it shut down.

Long story short what is the upper solenoid for? Im assuming its not the starter solenoid. If so where is the Starter solenoid on a 2002 7.3?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Total Intermittent Electrical Flicker / Failure

New ghost in the machine.

Pulled out of the driveway two days ago to go trailer a wrecked car home. Got about half a mile up the road, and my electrical system started flickering. Engine died, dash went nuts, everything is clicking on and off real fast. This went on for a minute or two, then stopped. After a little internal debate, I decided to continue on.

Ran fine for another mile or so. Hitched up the trailer and checked the lights, everything A-OK. Started rolling down the lane and the truck went dark. Engine shut down, no sign of electrical power anywhere. It was as if my batteries had been suddenly abducted by aliens. Truck stayed dark for about 5 - 10 seconds, then like a switch was thrown all the electric came back on. Dropped the trailer and drove back to the house without incident. Not towing a car like this.

Checked the battery connections. Looked really good and tight. Pulled and cleaned them anyways.

Pulled the fuse box out from under the dash and looked for water damage. Absolutely no sign of moisture or corrosion anywhere on the box or anything else under the dash.

Started the truck and turned every electrical item I could think of on. Truck sat and idled for 15 minutes without a hiccup. Voltage at the batteries was normal. I wiggled wires everywhere with no effect.

Decided to quit for the night. Got into the truck to move it to it's parking spot and POOF, all went dark again. Engine died, heater blower, radio, headlights, interior lights, all dark. About 5 seconds later, everything came back online.

No CEL. No other symptoms. She was either running perfectly or had no juice at all.

I drove it last night to the mechanic I use. 7 miles, bumps, potholes, stop and go traffic, no issues.

Just spoke with the mechanic. They can't reproduce the problem. I told him I can't reproduce it on demand either. I asked that they put it up on the rack and check all the ground points.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: After Wiper Motor Replacement Some Electrical System Won't Work?

I just replaced my Wiper motor last week and noticed something strange. For the last year or so when I turn on the key to start the truck, once in a while my radio, gauges, and other electricals such as windows wouldn't work for a bit, anywhere from a couple seconds to maybe as much as a couple minutes. Since my wiper motor was on the fritz, I pulled the fuse and the radio,gauges,ect. wouldn't work until the WTS light went out, then everything worked just fine, even after I started the truck and the glow plugs come back on.Since I replaced the motor everything works as soon as i turn the key. Coincidence? Or could one of the internal relays on the motor being stuck cause that?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Electrical - Tail Light Bulb Out No Rapid Blinker

Passenger tail light bulb went out who knows when, but was alerted about it today. Every other time this has happened, in multiple vehicles, the turn signal blinks rapidly to let you know the bulb is out. Mine blinked normally.

In the past year I've had to change my multi function switch and more recently the flasher relay for the blinkers. Just a standard relay from the parts store, not the heavy duty one or anything. It did say it was LED compatible, so I wonder if that is why it didn't pick it up? Why I didn't get the rapid blinking?

Ford - F350 :: 2003 - Electrical Malfunction - Lost Power Windows / Mirrors / Dome Lights And Radio

Yesterday I ran my batteries down and had to have my 2003 F350 jump started. The truck started find, and the battery is retaining its charge, but after the jump i lost my power windows, instrument panel (speedometer, gauges, odometer), dome lights, radio, and power mirrors. I have checked all the blade fuses and they are all fine. I have noticed in the past that occasionally it takes a few seconds for these things to come on line after I start up, but this was very rare and the functions always came on line shortly. What the problem could be?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: E350 - Instrument Cluster Not Working After Electrical Wiring Mistake

I am currently converting a 1999 E350 7.3 diesel bus into a camper to live in. The bus has already had a lot of weird custom work. Done by someone else and a lot of the interior torn out and extra insulation put in. There is an exposed electrical panel behind the drivers seat. It was a cheap buy, previously fleet maintained with only 120k.

I was hooking up a battery for accessories to a terminal labeled "Battery" that does run indeed directly to the + terminal of the battery in the engine compartment.

Unfortunately I mistakenly connected the accessory battery to a terminal labeled "ignition" that runs to behind the dash. When I tried starting the vehicle off the auxiliary battery for a test everything went out for 2 seconds, I heard a click from the engine compartment, and everything than came back on. This is when I realized my mistake.

It used to be the speedo only didn't work (which I assumed was the step motor), now after this mistake all the gauges, the odometer and the buzzers don't work. Lights like the battery and airbag warning indicator still function.

Checked fuse 2 (15 amp) for the instrument cluster and it is intact. Actually checked every fuse in the vehicle in both fuse panels and all are intact. The radio works though and the vehicle is not equipped with power windows.

Going to go get a radio removal tool to take apart the dash and get back there. What this could be? Did I fry a relay? Did I fry the cluster circuit board.

Camry :: 2003 XLE Lost Electrical Power

My 2003 Camry XLE 4-cyl has a serious intermittent problem.

Occasionally, when I insert the key into the ignition switch and turn to ON position, the whole car has no electrical power - including radio, fan, windows, and the whole dashboard just went black ! Starter won't turn. At this point if I just tap slightly on the brake pedal once, electrical power would instantly come back and everything works normal again (car starts, radio, fan working again). This problem would continue to persist randomly. I found that every time when this happens, if I clean the positive battery post/clamp, the problem goes away for 1-2 months then it come back again. I have been repeating this routine for over a year until recently I replaced the battery and the new positive clamp.

The problem has not come back until now (about 9 months since battery change). This time, the problem became a real safety issue. It happened while driving ! Engine just died, everything blackout inside the car. I had to put it in neutral and let it cruise, tapped on the brake pedal slightly to get electrical power back, then started the car and go again.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2000 - Electrical Malfunction - Dash Ticks - Engine Won't Start - Dies Most Of The Time?

I have a 2000 7.3 f450 having some electrical issues. When you turn the key on sometimes the dash will start ticking and left side light flashing...engine will turn over but it won't start. The ticking is coming from under the hood relay 32 (you can hear and feel it clicking). Book says its injector driver module power relay. A lot of the times it will start fine other times it will be running and just die (prob because of this issue) happened once when I was driving.

What to check here already replaced the relay still have the problem.

Electrical-wiring - Ranger :: 1999 XLT Electrical Power Lost When Turn Key To Start Position

My 1999 Ford Ranger XLT, 6 cylinder, auto trans, with 134K miles has an electric problem. When I turn the key to the 'on' position, all dash lights show normal, headlights work, radio plays, etc. But when I turn the key to the 'start' position, all electric power is lost. The power remains lost until I disconnect and reconnect the battery ground wire. After reconnecting, I again have power until the key is turned to the 'start' position. I was able to jump start the truck, so I assumed I needed a new battery. I bought one a week ago, and was back to normal until today. The truck started, I drove 4 miles to the grocery store, and then I found myself back to square 1 (i.e., the no-start situation).
