I have a 2011 F150 FX4 with the traction control. When the tires spin (like taking off on a hill in the rain - that's when i noticed it) and I let off to let everything settle down, I hear a rattling kind of noise coming from the middle dash area, maybe on the engine compartment side of the firewall. It sounds like a rubber ball in a box being jostled around. What this might be?

Other than that it's all good can not hear anything wrong driving on a smooth road or a highway...
View 9 RepliesSo I got this rattling sound like a piece of tin rattling underneath the truck, it is coming from the front of the transmission area. About 6 months ago the same thing was happening so I took the truck in for some other warranty work and had the dealership check out this rattle. When I picked the truck up I asked and they said it was rocks/gravel caught up underneath and they took them out and the rattle was gone. The truck is a 2010 FX4.
View 12 Replies2014 fx4 6.2. Had a coolant leak. Brought to dealer for warranty work. Found a leak in middle lower tube area. Said they replaced radiator part # BL3Z-8005-D. It sure looks like my old radiator still under the hood complete with squished bugs. Am I missing something?
View 2 RepliesMy 2011 F-150 Super crew eb has started to have a knock that comes from under the dash in the radio area. It doesn't occur every time it's started. It is 3 or 4 knocks that sound like a plastic gear slipping, then it stops. I am thinking something in the vent/defrost door. Is it vacuum operated or electronic? Any thoughts?
View 4 Replies2002 ford explorer v8 4x4, ok I had some noise coming front the right maybe middle axle area so I pulled the driver's side tire and inspected all the bushings ball joints and hubs. The hub had a little play and so did the upper ball joint. So I replaced the hub thinking this could be the problem and the steering stabilizer bar (all the bushing on the bar where toast). Ever thing was tight but the upper ball joint still had a little play but not enough for me to spend the $ to replace the whole control are (as I am told you cannot replace just the ball joints you have to replace the whole control arm). Any way got it all back together and still same nose. What it could be? Also the four wheel low will not engage could this be part of the problem or one more thing un related ( the four high engages just not the low)...
View 14 RepliesI bought a 2010 f150 from the company I work for.... It had a blown front diff, when I bought it, I just put a complete front diff assembly and front drive shaft on it. Thought I was golden, but when I accelerate fast there is a slipping/ snapping noise which sounds like it's coming from transfer case area... Accelerate slow and steady up to highway speeds it doesn't happen. This problem only happens in four wheel drive.... what this could be!???

View 3 RepliesSo I really don't drive my car much during the year since I'm away at college. Once I got back home a couple weeks ago and drove my 20th, i heard a rattle coming from the middle of the car. Jacked it up and starting banging around. The sound is coming from my resonator. Its either the clamp that is busted or the resonator itself. I have to get in closer to see which it is. But I do have a few questions. If I just cut the resonator cut off and weld a straight pipe to that will it be much louder. I have a stock 20th and I'm not really looking for a loud exhaust at the moment. Is it much louder without the resonator? I know if you put a straight pipe in place of the muffler it is MUCH louder so I'm just curious.

I am hearing what I can only describe as the sound of a small explosion coming from under the hood. Its not as loud as a backfire, but it definitely sounds like something is combusting where it shouldn't be. its a '93 XLT V6. What could it be? how screwed am I?
View 19 RepliesI purchased a new 2011 F-150 Lariat, Ecoboost, SCrew, 4x4 last weekend. I love the truck. It is very comfortable, the Ecoboost has been incredible, and the ride is very nice. I am looking forward to towing my ATVs after I hit 1000 miles.
Yet, I have one problem. I get an incredible amount of wind noise and wind whistle from what appears to be the driver's door. I read other posts about wind noises and wind whistles (e.g., bug shield), but they do do not apply to me.
I'm planning on dropping it off at the dealership this week for them to take a look at.
Recently blew the belt that runs the water pump, etc while on a vacation. Had to leave the car at a small mechanic in Winthrop, WA. He replaced the Water pump which had gone bad and the belt that shredded. The car ran beautifully for a week. Now there is this constant rattling sound coming from the water pump area. I attached a video with the sound. The sound will quicken as you accelerate. At cold start up it is usually not present then starts a couple of minutes in.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2012 Sonata GLS with 3300 miles on it. I have noticed that now that the temperature has dropped to below 60 degrees I have annoying dash rattle. It seems to be based on the rpm of the motor (1200-1500 rpm). So every time I take off from a stop sign or stop light I have this buzzing rattling coming from the center of the dash. It sounds like it is in the upper part behind the radio. The wife drove last night and I put my ear on the passenger side vent by the radio and I could hear the rattle. I am just trying to isolate the problem so when I go to the dealership I can give them some decent information. I thought the problem was the cowling on the bottom of the windshield. In the center of the window it had warped up. They replaced the cowling earlier this week and the problem is still there.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2012 Ford Supercrew, 6.5 FT bed, Ecoboost that I got in April. About two weeks after I got it, someone ran a two way stop right out in front of me and I hit them on my drivers side front. Damage pretty minimal considering their car was totaled. I had my truck back from the body shop about two weeks later. Everything was great.
About 3 weeks after I had gotten my truck back, I began to notice a strange noise that sounded almost like someone was opening a door really slow. (more of a rapid popping sound than a high pitched squeak) It only happened on acceleration and the sound was coming from the passenger side right up next to the firewall. I figured it was something that wasnt tightened correctly from the body work. I took it to Ford for warranty work and told them this story...they werent concerned about the wreck. They suspected suspension...I agreed this was probable.
They checked and tore down the whole front suspension on the passenger side. They ended up replacing that whole side with brand new parts, new shock, upper lower control arms, new coil, gaskets, etc. Problem was still not fixed.
I took it back to the body shop where it was worked on and had the foreman ride with me so he could listen to noise. He said that he believed it was the suspension as well. He said that most of the bushings that sit on top of the coil come from the factory sort of dry...he suggested breaking it down and putting teflon grease between the bushing and the top of the coil tower that mounts to the frame. He said he has had luck with that.
Long story short, the driver side began doing the same thing. I took it back to Ford and they agreed to try what the body shop foreman had told me. Still no luck!
My front suspension has been replaced and broken completely down three times, tightened back up to factory specs, and re-aligned...and still no fix!
It sounds like a truck with 250,000 miles when I first accelerate, and I can still here it a cruising speeds when I hit bumps (air has to be off to hear it well)...
My 99 F250 has just recently started making a "rattling" noise. The noise sounds like its coming from the front left wheel area. The noise is constant while driving down the road, its NOT created by bumps or anything, its a constant noise while moving.

One thing that I've begun hearing is a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the center speaker area on my dash. I have the ML system so not sure if the standard audio package has this speaker. I'm not 100% that it coming from the speaker but it's somewhere towards the center of my dash.

I've been hearing this rattling, sometimes kind of a metallic ping, from the rear the last week. I thought it was probably the universal joints, didn't do it often, only under load between 1500-1900RPM roughly in second, third and fourth. I planned on working on it this weekend.
Today it started really making noise, sounds like valves rattling as though the timing was too high but it was coming from the rear end. It was making it all the way through the gears into fifth, even when cruising. Once it cooled down a bit it nearly went away.
I'm going to get started on it as soon as I can, but I can't get it in the shop to pull the differential cover and take a look right now. Dad's shop is full of crap, I live on top of a hill, not many safe places to get one up in the air properly. What is causing that sound?
Experienced a rattle coming from the console area... a week or two ago I was driving home from work and I heard a "slight" rattle noise.. it sounded as if it was coming from the dash area... This concerned me because when I first bought my car about 18 months or so ago, there was a very annoying squeak in the dash when the temp dropped below 50 degrees... I took it back to the dealer several times for that squeak, and finally a young tech there figured out the problem and fixed it.. still quiet to this day... so anyway I'm hearing this very faint rattle sound ( on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the loudest, this would be a 2 or a 3 ) and it appears to be from the dash area...
I keep feeling around and putting pressure on different parts of the dash with no luck... then quite by accident I laid my hand across the counsel and as soon as my fingers pressed up against the round that selects eco / normal / or sport, the rattle stopped... removed my hand, rattle started again, just put one finger on the round and the rattle stopped...
So I had the car into the dealership for oil and filter change saturday and I saw that same tech that fixed my squeak last year... told him about the issue and while the car was in the shop he pulled the console.. said he couldn't find anything really wrong except that some of the clips were not lined up.. he didn't know if it would work but he said he insulated all the clips and a few other areas inside the console with some thick felt... charged me nothing... zero.... Don't know if the problem is permanently fixed, but I have not heard it in the two days since...
I just purchased a 2009 Hyundai Elantra a few months ago.. I have been hearing a rattling/ clunking noise around the rear glass area. I brought it to a local dealership and they thought that it was the bracket for the trunk lid rods. They replaced the bracket and the noise is still there..
View 3 RepliesI brought my 2011 GS350 in today for the dealer to fix the rattling noise coming from the dashboard after 2.5 hrs of waiting the car was fixed and I drove it to work and the rattling was minimal but tonight after work it was really cold I drove the car home and the rattling noise seem like it coming from the dashboard area near the windshield and the noise was more noticeable than this morning right after i left the dealer.
I just bought the car on March 3, 2015 so far loving the ride but the rattling noise makes me worry. The car is still under factory warranty until March 29th 2015 I am hoping they can correct the problem before the warranty expires.What should I do next?
I've been trying to find the source of this ticking/rattling noise could it be my cat converters or maybe torque converter.
