My 2010 F-150 has a vibrating noise that seems to be coming from within the dash. The noise starts around 40mph to 50mph. It stops if I let off the gas or I accelerate. I cannot figure out where or what is causing this.

When the tires spin (like taking off on a hill in the rain - that's when i noticed it) and I let off to let everything settle down, I hear a rattling kind of noise coming from the middle dash area, maybe on the engine compartment side of the firewall. It sounds like a rubber ball in a box being jostled around. What this might be?

Ever since I have owned the truck, it has had a pretty bad shake/vibration at highway speeds, that gets worse with higher speed. I have checked the alignment multiple times, rotated tires, had them re-balanced, and I still cannot figure out what is causing this. What else should I be checking?
View 14 RepliesSince most of us on this forum drive pick-up trucks, we're all accustomed to them riding, well, like a truck. We fully expect them to bounce around a little bit, right? However, one should not expect to be annoyed by noises inside the cab. For instance, my passenger seat bounces around like a baby's bouncy chair, even when the road is smooth. Surely, I'm not the only one noticing this! How do I shut-up my passenger seat???

View 4 RepliesMy 2011 F-150 Super crew eb has started to have a knock that comes from under the dash in the radio area. It doesn't occur every time it's started. It is 3 or 4 knocks that sound like a plastic gear slipping, then it stops. I am thinking something in the vent/defrost door. Is it vacuum operated or electronic? Any thoughts?
View 4 Repliesi have a 2010 f-150. during the day normal sunshine the gauge area is to dark to see any unless you put your head down close to the steering wheel.at night when the lights are on it is just great. At dusk the lights on the dash come on by them self. is there something i can do to have them on all the time i have good eyes & do not wear glasses.
View 6 RepliesI've just purchased a 2010 F-150 scab 4x4 with the 4.6 3v. When I have the air conditioning on drawing air from outside I get a strong gas odor in the cab. Originally I thought it was natural gas, but then my wife mentioned she too smelled gas, gasoline. If I use the recirculated air the smell goes away, almost instantly. Additionally, there is a faint odor of gasoline outside of the truck as well, but not nearly as strong as in the cab. There also is a ticking sound coming from the top of the engine, I believe the egr solenoid. Could these two issues be related? Either way, what are the possible causes of this smell? What are the fixes to these possible causes?
View 2 RepliesSo I got this rattling sound like a piece of tin rattling underneath the truck, it is coming from the front of the transmission area. About 6 months ago the same thing was happening so I took the truck in for some other warranty work and had the dealership check out this rattle. When I picked the truck up I asked and they said it was rocks/gravel caught up underneath and they took them out and the rattle was gone. The truck is a 2010 FX4.
View 12 RepliesA week ago, I bought my wife a 2010 Platnium White Lariat. (I will post pics later, when it's clean). We noticed that the smell of fuel, was bad after driving it, and coming to a stop, say at a stop sign.
We returned it to our dealer, yesterday, and this what they found. Just though I'd pass it on to you, for problem shooting, and infor to ask a dealership.
This is the quote on the paper we have. "Customer states when filling up or at idle the can smell fuel in the passenger compartment. Smells like coming from the engine area. Leaking at fuel rail. Tightened valve and road test no leaks now".
We were told that it was a "schrader valve". There was NO CHARGE for this repair. So far it seems to be o.k.
The advise we were given was as follows:
1) NO HEET is needed in the fuel tank
2) No Sea Foam, or injector cleaner of any kind
REASON: Was told it would mess up gaskets, and seals etc. I'm not a mechanic, just passing the word that I was told.
I have just purchased a 2010 FX4 5.4l on 5/4 and just found a leak coming from above the passenger side frame horn. It looks like it may be from the condensor but im not 100 percent certain. It is an odorless oil not condensate. It is a slow drip that i found after running the truck for a short time. the puddle it left was about the size of a bottom of a drinking glass.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2010 ford f150 with a 4.6 engine. it has developed a loud noise like a diesel on steroids and also sounds like its going to fly apart and it also misses when it does this . now this is how I have narrowed it down to make it happen because it does not do it all the time. it mainly does it to and from longer trips like 45 minutes or more then coming into traffic to a crawl or idle it will start making the noise . also when I pull into my drive and go from drive to reverse and go to back up it will also make the noise. I have no lights on the dash or codes. could this be a coil pack ? I had a coil go a few years back but it acted up under load on a hill and just missed with no noise.
View 11 RepliesAs I was driving home from vacation the other day while towing my boat I started noticing a tapping sound coming from the passenger side. Sounds like an exhaust leak or a lifter. Can't tell. Sounds louder under acceleration. It's a 2009 5.4 with 70k. Just had ford do oil change last week. Oil level is good.

View 7 Replies2012 F150 6.2L V8... I am at a loss and I know that loud knocking is not a good sign. Two days ago my truck's low oil pressure light started coming on and off, so I pulled over and immediately turned my truck off. I called a friend at a Ford dealership and he asked a mechanic what I should do. He said it could be something as simple as low oil, bad oil sending unit or maybe something serious. So, he said check my oil level if low top it off and see if that fixes the problem. It was low and I topped it off, but the light kept doing the same thing.
Here's my dilemma; my truck wasn't making ANY noises (knocking, whining, etc...), 2 days later which was yesterday I was en route to get new oil/oil filter changed and 24 miles later I'm in a turning Lane and it dies! Will not start, but it tried, so I did not try anymore. I was able to get it into a parking lot and left it for about 4 hours and went to check on it and it started right up and that is when the knocking noise started. I turned it off and checked the oil and the level reads full...
I have noticed recently that I have a "rubbing" noise and vibration coming from the right front wheel on my FX4. It is most noticeable from 5-10 MPH, and more pronounced when turning right. it is not constant. It sounds almost like a brake pad rubbing on a badly warped, wet rotor. It goes away when I apply the brakes. I am thinking bearing or possible CV joint.
The dealer can't get it in until Tuesday, and they say I will have to pay the deductible on the ESP, even if it is related to the steering vibration they could not replicate or fix about a month ago. I am seriously considering going to another dealer for my service. Given, they did absorb the deductible last time, but they didn't fix the problem!
The other day my left light went out. I ended up taking out the sockets and realizing that it was the green wire that goes into the socket. I fixed it and it worked for a while and now both my lights went out. Hi and low. Every time I turn my light on I hear a weird click noise coming from the fuse block. It sounds like a bad relay. What it is?

I got home put the truck in park and the ticking went away but when I put it in drive, held the brake and gave a little gas it came back even though I was not moving at all. What could this be?
View 4 Replies2011 F150 Limited 4wd 6.2 liter. I just bought the truck a few weeks ago with 26,000 miles. Late last week I began hearing a mild grind/rustling noise that appears to come from the driver's front. It's not terribly loud (loud enough to hear), but it's annoying. It happens when I slow down (on and off the brake and below 25-30 mph) as well as let off and begin to speed up. It doesn't last but a second after I let off the brake and speed up though. The kicker is it does not happen all of the time. I drove it home from work last night and it did not do it one time, but driving to work this morning it happened every time I did what I described above. I have taken it to our local tire/suspension shop and they claim they could not reproduce the sound which does not surprise me. They did a full inspection and found nothing.

View 5 RepliesJust got a 2010 lariat supercrew...I put 1900 miles on it so far. When slowly letting off the accelerator (doing between 20-30 mph and between 1000-1500 rpm) there is a distinct rubbing sound for about 1-2 seconds...it is now sounding more like grinding now...took it to the shop today...(they couldn't duplicate (because service rep documented 60 mph instead of the 20-30 mph...went back at the end of the day to ride with the tech, and i was able to duplicate so now they have something to work with....also the noise happens mostly when the path of travel is either level road or slight to great incline..it has not happened on a down slope....
