Ford Fuel System :: 1976 F150 - Fuel Draining All The Way Back To Tank

My vehicle:
1976 F150 2wd Extended cab
390 4bbl
c6 transmission
4BBL Edlebrock Carb
Dual fuel tanks, only rear main tank connected

My problem: For the first year I owned the truck, everything ran fine and it started up really quickly even after it sat for a few days or a few weeks. I have since, for about the last year or so, had to crank it for 30-45 seconds to get it to start. This all started around the time my fuel pump went out. I replaced it with an Airtex fuel pump from Autozone. I also installed a glass in line filter before the carb in front of the distributor.

I noticed that after about 4-6 hours, the fuel had drained out of the filter and that's when I would have to crank it forever to get it going. It also seems like there is no fuel in the carb as it doesn't even try to start when it first gets cranked. I thought this was a bad pump, so I bought a new one last week and tried it again. Sure enough after about 4-6 hours, everything is empty again and it takes forever to start it. So it's not a bad pump, or so I think.

The other day I backed it into my driveway and left it, something I never do. I checked about 4 days later and there was still fuel in the filter. This makes me think that gravity is making it drain back to the tank.

Is there something that would cause this? Also I have found a one way fuel check valve online that is supposed to remedy this type of problem. Do they work for this situation? Or is there something else I should be doing to fix this? It has taken a bit of a toll on my starting system having to crank so long all the time. I have so far had to replace my starter, starter solenoid, and all the battery cables, starter cable, terminals, etc. due to excessive wear.

The valve I found is here : [URL] .....

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Water In Gas Tank - Blow Compressed Air Into Fuel System?

I am a little skeptical of this, but someone told me that since I got water in the gas tank of my 2003 F250 I should blow compressed air into the schrader valve on the fuel rails to eject it all into a bucket under the disconnected fuel filter.

Ford Fuel System :: E350 - Fuel Tank / Pump Noise After Cutoff

This van has had a couple of fuel pumps, no surprise there, and i need to look through my paperwork and find out how many miles the current one has on it, but it has the STRANGEST habit I've ever had on any vehicle. Starts fine, runs fine, no fuel pump noise when van is running, and when you turn it off, the fuel pump creeks on and off for several minutes.

I mean a strange creaking noise almost like a shorted electrical device or a vehicle's brakes when you park it on a hill and the breaks creak as it settles into place. I'm probably doing a lousy job of describing this but i don't know how else to describe it!

ALSO, if you lay under the van and wait til it stops creaking, you can tap the bottom of the tank and it will creak for a few more seconds. You can tap repeatedly and make it creak more. Is it about to explode? Can i trust it on a road trip?

Ford Fuel System :: Deep Cleaning Inside Of Fuel Tank

I have a tank that's been out of my truck for a couple years. I want to clean it up real good inside before re-installing. Are there any products you can recommend that will give a deep clean on the inside to remove any gunk and some slight rust? Also, is there a product that should be used to coat the inside of the tank after it's been deep cleaned?

Ford Fuel System :: 1986 F150 - Fuel Coming Out Of Front Tank Filler Neck

I have a 1986 F150 6 cyl, dual tanks, no AC, manual fuel pump. Just recently, I have been having issues with the tanks. At first it seemed like the back tank was siphoning from the front tank. Now I have fuel coming out of my front tank filler neck. When I open the back tank gas cap, there is enough pressure to spray me with gasoline. I am not familiar with the fuel delivery system of my truck ...

Ford Fuel System :: Small Leak Where Filler Neck Ties Into Rubber Hose That Runs Into Fuel Tank

I recently purchased a used 1999 F250 Super Duty with about 150k miles on it. The truck runs great and I have no complaints but there are a few things that need to be taken care of. It looks like there is a very small fuel leak where the filler neck ties into the rubber hose that runs into the fuel tank. There is a thin film of diesel along the side of the tank, on the leaf spring, the air bag and various other places. Nothing is dripping. I want to drop the tank and replace the hose. The Haynes manual says to depressurize the whole fuel system--is this really necessary if I don't plan on doing anything to the system aside from dropping the tank?

Ford Fuel System :: No Fuel From Rear Tank

This is on my sig truck. I can hear the pump running, and a sound like fuel spraying around inside the tank, but not getting any up front to the carb. What is the most likely culprit for this? Can't get the bed off, or get the strap bolts loose, so I haven't been able to "eyeball" anything, yet.

Ford - Club :: 1991 - Fuel Is Coming Out Of Front Tank Fill Spout When Engine Running

I am having an issue with by club wagon. This vehicle has dual tanks. The front tank doesn't work (and never has since I purchased it a couple of years ago....bad fuel pump I am guessing}.

A couple of months ago the fuel pump went out on the rear tank and I had it replaced. I now have a peculiar problem. Fuel is coming out of the front tank fill spout when the engine is running. There seems to be a tremendous amount of pressure building up in the front tank...even though I am not using it.

I would seem as though fuel is being pumped out of the rear tank and into the front tank to a certain pressure point, and then on to the engine. One solution would seem to be to remove the front tank completely from the system, but I don't know how to do that, or if it should be done. After driving and coming to a stop, fuel is pouring out through the gas cap on the front tank. I. Don't need to use the front tank as I am just using this as a work truck.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 F150 Sputtering After Fill Up - Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor

The ole 5.4l hit a snag today. I was on my way to fill her up and she started sputtering and damn near died! i filled her up and it was like nothing ever happened. Took her to AutoZone and the diagnosis was a Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.

I have a connection with Bumper-to-Bumper to get the part for cheap but I'm not sure if i want to dive into either moving the bed or dropping the tank. I'd prefer to move the bed.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Cannot Fill Fuel Tank / Gas Overflows When Filling

I have an 04 Elantra GT. My gas gauge is showing full but the car is running out of gas. I try to fill the tank and I get the annoying click and after trying for a few, gas comes up the filler and overflow tube and makes a mess. At the same time, I was getting a P0449 code. I got an evap canister from the junkyard and that seems to have gone away.

Tried diagnosis but dropping the fuel tank to access the lines. When I jack the tank back up into position, you can hear gurgling sounds and as if the gas is coming up the fill tube. I also opened the access panel under the seat to see the pump assembly and when I removed the 8mm bolts, gas came pouring out. There was definitively gas in there. Checked the float on the pump assembly and it moved?

There is also something at the fuel neck at the top. Don't know what it is and if that could also be part of the problem.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Fuel Smell In Cabin If Fill The Tank To Full

I have a 2007 Santa Fe. If I fill the tank to full, or close to full I will have a fuel smell in the car until the tank runs under 3/4. If I keep it under 3/4 I usally do not get the smell in the car.

The dealer could not figure it out and I still have this issue. It seems the smell is more in the front of the cabin then the rear. It just could seem that way since the smell is very strong. I have to park the car with the windows open.

There are no fuel leaks, no fuel on the ground, no drips, and the no spillage when I filled the tank.

Expedition :: 2003 - Spraying Fuel Out Of Fill Tube When Filling Tank?

My 2003 Expedition has started spraying fuel out of the fill tube whenever I fill the tank. It started 6-8 months ago. At first, I thought that maybe it was a fluke. It kept happening. I am so tired of getting fuel all over myself and my car. Not to mention the environmental impact of the fuel spill. This isn't just a little fuel dripping out of the tank and spilling on the ground. It's a full on projectile expulsion of fuel from the tank. What's happening and what I can do to fix the problem?

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 17.5 Gallons Fuel Tank Capacity But Only Fill 14 Gallons?

From all I can see, the fuel tank capacity on my '12 should be 17.5 gallons.

As I finish up a trip with it, I know I've "pushed the envelope" as far as fuel range is according to the guage/computer. I get the warning that I need to refuel and that I have 50 miles to empty, but I've driven 40 miles into that last range before refueling, and only been able to put 14 or so gallons into the tank.

My question is: If I were to drive until it literally runs out of gas, then fill it, would the guage/computer recalibrate or do I need to install a new fuel sensor?

I get the warning as the guage indicates just under 1/4 tank remaining, and I have yet to run it until the guage indicates that it's actually on empty (family and dog are with me so risking it is currently out). I'm hoping that the guage itself knows what the real deal is and that the computer is just not with it.... OH, FWIW full is EXACTLY on the "full" line and not over as in my Kia.

Ford Fuel System :: Rear Tank Leak - No Power

I have the dual tank setup & this is my problem.

Last year I replaced both tanks - the front was leaking bad and rear was starting to leak. After replacing both tanks, the rear tank (which I was using before) was unusable - it would idle fine and when applying throttle would stall out. The front tank's gauge did not work.

This week I pulled both tanks. Had new gauge assembly put on front pump unit. Also had the rear pump replaced with a new (rebuilt?) one. Installed both tonight. Now the front tank is running fine with a gas gauge. I Filled up the rear and once I had about 16 gallons in, fuel started leaking from the front top of the tank it looks like (where in-tank pump is). This leak has continued as the truck was turned off too. I think it may have stopped now, but its dark and I am parked on a hill. As another problem, I still have the same "stalling" problem. The rear will idle fine, but start to stall out when a load has been applied.

So to summarize:
- What is causing it to want to & stall out?
- Why am I leaking gas?

It seems to stop dripping gas after (maybe) the pressure is lower from leaking the gas out. Also, when 1st starting it up on the front tank, it wants to stall out...probably from the gas that leaked out while it was shut off? The truck will run for about 1/20th of a mile on the rear tank when initially starting it up before showing signs of stalling.

Ford Fuel System :: Liquid Soap / Shampoo In Gas Tank

So here's my problem, some put shampoo or liquid soap in my gas tank, I was told to put a can of Sea Foam into the tank, then fill it up with gas, they said it will not hurt anything, only make it run rough until all the shampoo/soap is out of it,.....I put the Sea Foam in it, filled it up with gas, drove it 65 miles and it drove fine, no problems what so ever,I was cruising down the interstate, had the cruise control on at 60, and it started going down in speed, I caught it at 55mph, gave it a lil gas, it started chugging for about 2 miles, then it started making this clunking noise coming from the bottom half of the motor, I gave it a lil more gas, the noise went away but it chugged for maybe another mile, then it came out of it....the very next morning, I jumped in it, went to start it and it would NOT start .....it cranks over but its acting like its getting no fuel what so ever, I had the fuel pump tested and its fine,....so my question is.....what will shampoo/soap do to a motor/fuel system and what should I check next??

Ford Fuel System :: 1985 - Gas In Front Tank - Way To Drain It?

I have a 85 e-250 351 4 barrel with two tanks. My tank selector switch was bad, and I have no clue how long the gas has been in my front tank, but it is very bad. I have tried to siphon it out, but for some reason it wouldn't start flowing, and I tried to drain it from behind the fuel tank selector valve, but it wouldn't flow. I figure i need to pump it out, so my question is what is the best method to pump out 25 gallons of bad gas?
