Ford - Ranger :: 2007 - Slight Pinging Under Acceleration

Feb 25, 2013

Our 2007 Ford Ranger PJ 4x4 3L diesel automatic pings slightly on acceleration when the engine is not loaded. When pulling a caravan it pings very badly for an extended time. I release the throttle slightly to stop the pinging. If the EGR is not functioning, engine light on and scan tool displaying code 2143, there is no sign of a ping under any conditions. I did need to replace the Timing Reference Sensor on the flywheel housing due to a fault.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Slight Pinging Sound At Low RPM When Climbing A Steep Hill

Was climbing a steep hill at 35 mph just before truck down shifted to 2nd, I was hearing a pinging sound. Sounded like only I cylinder was doing so. What it could be. I am currently running a 1/4 tank of Fppf fuel injector cleaner. Is this a injector noise. No knocking just a slight pinging.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: Pinging Occasionally From The Exhaust

Since putting my new exhaust on (post-cat)... I've had this "ping" occasionally from the exhaust. Sounds as if someone is taking a small metal bar and hitting the exhaust. Random intervals, pretty loud, does it whether the engine is off or on. Only does it when warmed up though. I can't narrow it down due to the randomness of it.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2003 2.3L - Pinging / Tapping Or Knocking Noise

My 2003 Ranger 2.3L When I purchased it in 2005 I never noticed this tapping noise until in 2007 when Tennessee forced 10% Ethanol added to fuel. That is when the noise started.

What this could be. I have since moved to Texas and found a station that sells Ethanol Free gas, but that does not remove the noise.

Toyota - 4runner :: Pinging / Knocking On Hard Acceleration

I have a 98 Toyota 4Runner, which just started what I'm told is pinging or knocking on "hard accelerations", like accelerating on the merge lane when I see cars coming up behind me in the lane I want to merge into, or going uphill. i have 258,000 miles, and have the SUV serviced regularly and get things fixed when they need it. I told the dealer about it a month ago when I had regular servicing, and he did something to clean the fuel injector, and suggested I try 89 octane (he specifically recommended Sunoco), and if that worked I could try going back to 87 octane (Sunoco was his recommendation again). I did as he suggested, and the pinging/knocking seemed to get better with 89, but returned with 87. I read the Q&A on this, but still have questions. Why did this just start after 14 years? Should I do anything about, in other words is it harmful? If so, what should I do? Does the brand of gasoline have anything to do with this, or anything else for that matter? I am hoping to keep the SUV for a couple more years (300,000 miles), maybe longer.

Accent RB (2012+) :: Pinging And Crackling Noises On Acceleration

I have been experiencing pinging and crackling noises on acceleration from my vehicle it was purchased from the dealers May 2012. The problems started in October and I have been back and forth with the dealers for the same problems over and over and getting additional problems. Not to mention they keep saying that the problem is fixed and as I leave the compound I hear the noises.

I took it to have an independent scan from the dealer as it is now 5 months of run around with the issue not being resolved and I found out I have a bad ac compressor, steering rack and shock mount.

Prius (Gen 1) :: 2002 Pinging Under Acceleration And Sounds Like Something Metallic Is Rattling

I'm having a problem with my Prius. It pings under acceleration and it sounds like something metallic is rattling. It only happens when I use 87 and 89 oct. I use 91 premium to reduce the ping however, gas prices are rising and I want to go back to 87. There are no warning lights or anything and the ping has been happening for quite some time now.

Prius (2010-12) :: Slight Hesitation At Slight Acceleration Or Constant Speed

I have a 2010 with about 166k miles. I am getting a slight hesitation at slight acceleration or constant speed. It does not matter if it's on highway or freeway speeds. Now I am not sure if this in junction with me changing the PCV valve, cleaning the EGR pipe, or cleaning the TB for carbon recently. It started happening a week after it though.

Toyota - Corolla :: 2001 - Loud Spark Knock / Engine Pinging Noise Under Acceleration

My 2001 Corolla w/80k developing a considerably loud spark knock/engine pinging noise under acceleration. It throws no codes but pings like crazy and it never used to. It's happened gradual over a long period of time. I've cleaned the throttle body and have done all regular tune up items with no improvement. It doesn't ping at all on 93 octane, does some on 89 and terribly so on 87. Why is this? Does the 93 octane just act a a richer mixture of fuel to alleviate the ping? Should this sign point me in the direction that it's definately a lean issue causing the pinging?

Lexus LS 2007+ :: New LS460 With Pinging Sound - Fuel Injector Noise?

Purchased a new LS 460 first of this year. Definitely not as quite as my LS430 and has an annoying pinging sound which the dealership says can't be fixed and is a normal sound for the car. Talked today with Service Manager and his lead mechanic and was told this is normal.

Problem: When I purchased this car for wife I had an expectation that it would be a quite running car. Not sound like a diesel engine, especially when at idle. I've read about others with the same problem and wonder if there is a fix out there for this annoyance. Lexus claims it is a fuel injector noise. Some people here stated that had there car fixed by Lexus Engineers.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Slight Stumble / Misfire When Under Acceleration

I have a 97 F150 4.6. The truck has developed a slight stumble/misfire when under acceleration. Once at speed it runs fine. It has not given any codes. I've checked for them several times. The plugs and wires have been changed. Is it possible that a coil pack could be bad without throwing a code?

Ford Excursion :: Squealing When Turn The Wheel / Slight Tapping On Acceleration

Ok, so I just drove from Pgh, PA to San Antonio, TX..... truck ran great, and before i left i replaced the steering box, tie rod ends, shocks, added dual steering stabilizers, and did a tranny flush as well as oil change.

Here are the issues that I cant figure out, anytime i turn the wheel, there is a squealing, it is NOT the power steering, when we did all the upgrades we re-greased the ball joints and temporarily stopped the squealing. So should I just replace the ball joints, and if so, should I replace anything else while I'm doing that?

The next issue is when i drive, sometimes when I accelerate slightly it sounds like something is going wrong with the engine, like a vibration or humming, maybe a slight tapping, i cant seem to figure it out. no engine lights come on or anything, but it scares me and I need this vehicle for a while so I need to make sure i keep up on the maintenance.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Slight Delay When Press Down The Pedal And Acceleration Actually Happens

I've been noticing over the past couple years that sometimes when I accelerate, there's a slight delay between the time I press my foot down on the pedal and when acceleration actually happens. From reading other threads it would seem that the most common fix is to re-flash the ECU. I bought a DiabloSport Predator tuner along with a CAI a while back to improve performance/gas mileage and I was wondering if there's a way I can use the tuner to re-flash.

If not, do most ford repair shops already carry these? I don't want to buy a flash programmer. Also, if the shop does carry this type of an item, what is the average cost to get it re-flashed?

I own an '04 F150 XLT 5.4l.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: EcoBoost Engine - Slight Rumble On Acceleration

I picked up a 2014 F150 with the EcoBoost engine a couple weeks back and while so far I love it, I can't get over how quiet it is. So, to my question, has anyone done anything with the exhaust to get some of that truck sound back. A slight rumble on acceleration would be nice to have and maybe get some gains out of it, but thats minimal.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Misfire Mostly Occurred Around 50 MPH Under Slight Strain With Little Acceleration

At 89,000 miles I replaced my plugs with autzone autolites and also replaced my fuel filter. Shortly there after the truck started to shutter and shake while miss firing giving a 0307 code. After checking that plug and replacing it, moving the COPs across the engine from each other the miss firing continued under the 0307 code. The miss firing mostly occurred when I was around 50 MPH, under slight strain with a little acceleration. If I powered through it most of the time it would clear out. Occasionally it was bad enough to where I had to pull over.

I trouble shot this for about a month before it got more consistent and worse. I took it to the shop where they tested the compression on the cylinder and also tested each coil. All check out OK. They recommended I replace all plugs with motorcrafts and the boots on the coils. In the process of doing that I discovered a loose plug in the #2 cylinder. I pulled it out and found that it was scorched and the metal was slightly tweaked at the tip. Not sure how it got loose or how it got burned, but figured that I found the problem. All plugs and boots replaced!

Two days later more miss firing. This time with a 0305 code. Occurs again on a grade at around 50 MPH with slight acceleration. I pulled that plug and the plug in the cylinder where the loose plug was found. Nothing seemed to be wrong. The plugs seemed a little brown where I put anti seize on but that I figured was normal. I then moved coils again. The miss fire continued and the code did not move. There is still a rough idle and occasional humming coming from the engine.

Is the loose burnt plug a separate issue or is there something causing all the miss fires that backed my plug out. I'm lost on my next step to take. Im getting married in two weeks so needless to say spending more and more money on this issue let alone time is making things so stressful. Besides the fact that I think my engine going to blow up on me every time it miss fires bad.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2013 XLT - Slight Rattle Or Ping On Acceleration In First Gear

I have a 2013 F150 3.5L Ecoboost XLT and have recently experienced a slight noise on acceleration in first gear. Sounds like a light rattle or ping. The dealer says it may be due to carbon buildup (I have noticed that the exhaust has a lot of soot on it). They are suggesting some additive to resolve this and she mentioned that the problem starts to show up at about 30,000kms. It does not affect power or cause misfire as described in posts.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Engine Vibration / Miss At Idle - Slight Hesitation During Acceleration

I posted a while back about my 04 5.4 having an issue at idle. I did all the normal things like replace coil, spark plug, etc etc. No change to the issue. It still acts as though it's misfiring on a cylinder and I get codes P0306 and P0316. Finally took it to ford and had a diagnostic check ran. Everything on the top end was in working order. The tech even put a known working coil on 6 and nothing changed. I was told that it's either an intake or valve issue on that cylinder. But no definite answer to problem.

Fast forward to yesterday. I got a wild hair at lunch and went out and started truck. Pulled injector plug off of 6. No change to the way it was running. I did the same for 5, 7, 8, 1, and 2. All of which made a big difference in the way it ran. It was obviously misfiring with no fuel to cylinder. This gave me the idea to swap 5 and 6 when I got home to see if the issue followed the injector from 6. I did NOT. I pulled the plug on 5 and got the obvious change in the way it ran. So there is definitely something going on at cylinder 6 that I cannot figure out.

PCM, bad intake, bad valve? I'm not rich so a trip to ford for repair is gonna have to wait. Truck seems to run fine when driving except for slight hesitation during acceleration.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Slight Miss / Rough Idle - Hesitation Or Stumble On Acceleration

2003 F150 5.4 72852 miles

I have a Rough Idle & sometimes a hesitation or stumble on acceleration. I cleaned the MAF & IAC motor & Air & Fuel Filters are new. I got a 20890 scanner & ran test 6 53 as suggested in many posts by BlueGrass. Here are My results & what They Convert to.

1 00F5 .3675
2 0051 .1215
3 0000
4 0000
5 00A3 .2445
6 0000
7 0000
8 0000

I'm guessing the cop's are ok & probably need plugs? I was hoping to just swap a coil. Too cold to do plugs & truck won't fit in my garage.

Ford - Ranger :: 2001 3.0 / V6 2WD - Slight Delay In Transmission From 1st To 2nd Gear

My truck has 112,000 miles on it and I have been having a slight delay in the transmission from 1st to 2nd. The switch is easily felt but, it's not a hard clunk when it engages. After that there's no problem. Additionally, when I switch to reverse it can take a full second to feel it engage before I give it gas. The transmission fluid looks fine and the levels are fine, too. Have not had a flush done and but I was thinking about changing the fluids and seal. Also, wanted to ask about my rear suspension. The leaf springs have lost a bit of their spring and was wondering if those "add a leaf" kits are worth it. The truck rides level but any loads in the bed cause it to really sag. I put new shocks in which improved the quality but the concern is just the leafs.
