My brother has a 99 ranger with the 4.0 engine and factory tow package. After installing a rebuilt engine the brake lights do not work and the turn signals will blink both sides like flashers. Lights on the truck work fine. What connections may be hooked up wrong or where to start looking for the problem.
View 3 RepliesI have a 1999 Ranger 4x4 4.0 5 speed step side...in Jalapeno no less. Anyway, for the past 5 years or so the check engine light has been on. When it came on I did nothing because nothing seemed to change and I was too broke to fix it anyway. Well, just lately the check engine light has started to flicker or go out completely.
When this happens the truck seems sluggish and the A/C will stop working. As long as the check engine light is ON the truck runs like it always has, when it goes off the issues start. If I am stopped with the clutch depressed the idle will drop down to 500 rpms or so.
Kinda hoping it is something I can fix or at least learn about so I can have an intelligent conversation with a mechanic.
luckily about 5 minutes from home my trailer running lights AND the lights on my dump truck body stopped working. i assume they hooked the lights to my dump body to the trailer lights. i was towing an old trailer that has electrical issues so I'm sure that caused it. Under the hood there is a 30 amp fuse #26 that i think is the culprit. (All the other similar fuses are shiny and that one is kinda black). I've never bought fuses like this before, what type is it? it's a big square one. Are they available at auto zone? Does the whole thing pull out and do you need a special tool for it?

View 4 RepliesI recently got a pretty cherry 98 Ranger 3.0 2wd extended cab auto. So far all it has needed was wiper blades, floor mats and a heater blend door. Last week my daughter informed me that the flashers and the turn signals stopped working. I looked for blown fuses and then took the low road and just bought a new flasher (my alldatadiy manual showed that the flasher was common to the turn signals and the hazard flashers so I took a shot at just throwing a part at it). That didn't fix it or else. Any pointers?

I noticed that my turn signals stopped working. I replaced the flasher. Now the turn signals work but the signal indicators in the dash don't light up. Also, the hazard lights don't work either. No flashing, no blinking when I turn on my hazards. I've seen many variations while searching? 1994 B3000 2x4 extra cab.....
View 14 RepliesI installed a new trailer wiring harness onto the back of my 2002 F250 Super Duty with 7.3 diesel engine. Unfortunately, I was 180 degrees off on my wiring. When I hooked up to the camper I blew Fuse #115 (Trailer Tow Battery Charge) as it connected directly to the camper ground wire. I replaced the 20amp fuse and all other fuses were good. Currently, I have all the truck wires to the harness isolated and have power to all of them except for the parking lights. All the lights on the truck work fine.
My truck has a interior fuse panel on the driver's side as well as two small black boxes under the hood, near the brake booster. The under-hood boxes had only relays in them. Two relays in one black box, three in the other. The box with three relays had trailer left turn and right turn relays. which worked fine. The third in that box, apparently, is for the A/C clutch, controlled by fuse #10. The other black box (with two relays), apparently, are for 4WD Shift on the fly, controlled by fuse #111. So, no relay for the parking lights.
Next, I pulled the fuse panel out a little and checked continuity from the end of the parking light wire (brown with white stripe) at the back of the truck to the back of the fuse box and found that it was a good wire with no breaks or shorts to ground, however no voltage is showing at the parking light wire when I turn on the parking lights. The harness at the back of the fuse box has several wires going into it. The parking light wire (brown with white stripe) is in the same harness as the back-up light wire (black with green stripe) and the back-up light does have voltage, when I put it in reverse.
I'm not sure what happens inside of the fuse box, i.e., how does one fuse run a few wires... is there some kind of circuit board? I know the easy way would be to run a vampire connector from the truck parking lights, or maybe the license plate light to power the trailer lights, however, I'm just not built that way.
2004 ford f 350 super duty, 6.0 Liters international diesel, 4door, 4x4, long bed, dual rear wheels. Over 200,000 mileage. I have no power to the trucks brake lights and no power to the tow plugs trailer brake lights, which is the center left and the center right tow plug blade style contacts, while using a 12 volt test light! All fuses are showing good and I replaced the brake switch at the brake pedal, and I also replaced the towing plug with the short wire and connector at rear of truck which is under the rear bumper and the frame mounted tow hitch bar
- Are there any relays that control the truck brake lights and the trailer brake lights ?
- If yes where are the brake relays exactly?
- Have I missed or not done something else to correct the problem?
Just Bought 97 Ranger 2.3L 5 speed. Everything worked except interior cab light and cab brake light. Also the wipers and A/C blower only work on highest speed when I bought it. I assumed there was a problem with the switches, bulbs and/or fuses. But when I picked it up last evening I noticed the dash lights were very dim on the way home. Then when I got home I shut everything off and removed the key. I then opened the drivers door and touched the brake pedal and the dash lights and the parking lights came on along with the "key in ignition" bell alarm each time I touch the brake pedal. If I close the door the dash and parking lights come on but the key in ignition does not sound. With so many things malfunctioning I don't know where to start.
View 7 RepliesMy wife's 99 Ranger's heater fan is not working. It was working off and on until now. The fuse is fine. I went out this morning and tested the blower motor for power in --had voltage. Assuming the motor was bad, I pulled it. Before wasting $ and a trip to town, I bench tested it --it works. Now my question: what do I do next?

View 5 RepliesI recently replaced all my incandescent lights on my 99 ford ranger which makes my truck stand out, but the issue I am having is all my exterior lights work including my turn lights but my running lights will not turn on. Is there any way I can fix this problem. I changed my flasher unit with one that is LED Capatable and i added load equalizers to the back to correct the issue with my turn signals but i just cant get my running lights to work....
View 14 RepliesWent from right around 18 to 14-15 last 2 tanks. No codes, drives absolutely normal. I have had my 4x4 lights flashing, but the 4x4 has never worked (suspect its a combination of the transfer case motor and the pulse vacuum hubs). Used to flash like this when I would try the 4x4 switch and would take a while to "get back to where it was happy". Recently I have not messed with the switch or anything else.

I have no trailer lights. I have checked all of the fuses. I cecked for voltage and am reading 0v what am I missing?
Ok we have a 2012 F-150 and are trying to hook up a 16ft trailer but have no lights. We know the trailer wiring is fine (works on other vehicles) but we have no power at the 4 pin trailer connector. We have checked the fuses and all are fine. Having this problem on a 2012?
View 14 RepliesMy son has a 99 ranger and the 4 wheel drive quit working. Traced it to the front hubs not getting vacuum. If I jump around the vacuum solenoid(not sure if that's what it's called), the 4 wheel drive works. Looking for a wiring diagram that shows how this is supposed to work electrically?
View 5 RepliesLast week I noticed my fogs stopped working. So I figured there may be a chance that they were burnt out. Hooked them straight to a battery and they work. Next I checked power at the plugs and no power. Checked the fuse and blown. The only fuse I had on me was a 25 amp fuse. Big mistake. Smoke started coming from the fuse box (palm to the forehead). Well it didn't blow the fuse but still nothing. I got power at the headlight switch and started tracing wires. From what I had read there is relay but it is inside the fuse box? Is this correct. I'm trying to pin point where the problem lies. There aren't any burnt up wires behind the fuse box and now I'm at a loss.
