Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Airbag Control Module Heating Up

Nov 25, 2014

I have a 2002 F350 7.3 Powerstroke with approximately 200,000 miles. Recently I have been having an issue with what I am told is my airbag control module heating up to the point it is too warm to touch when I am pulling a heavier load. It is located just under the dash on the center hump. I removed the black plastic cover revealing the module itself in order to determine that indeed is where the heat and smell of hot electrical equipment is originating from. It gets too hot to touch when pulling a heavy load and making the motor work...once I lighten up on it or am not pulling it immediately cools back down. If it is an option I would just disconnect it but I havent yet for fear of creating more of a problem.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 - 4wd Control Module Test

I have been trying to hunt down the issue with my 4wd. I have thus far done the following:

- Check and clean all fuses under dash
- Checked the underhood relays
- Check for proper operation at switch
- Opened relays under how and manually switch them, transfer case motor and lights on dash work as they should.

So my though is that I have power going everywhere. Something is not sending the signal to the relays. I would narrow this down to the 4wd control module behind the glove box. Is there any way to test this for sure? I'm about ready to just buy on and slap it in. Spending way too much time on this issue.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2002 F250 - Location Of Security Control Module

I have a 2002 F-250 Super Duty 4X4 triton V-10. Where the security control module is located? my keyless remote system does not work even after programming a new remote. The Ford dealership charged me an hour labor to diagnose the problem and they said it's the security control module which I just ordered.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: F250 - Airbag Light On - Loss Of Cruise Control

I have an early 1999 f250 diesel. I originally googled having the airbag light on and loss of cruise control and came up with it more than likely being a bad clock spring. So I replaced the clock spring, and it was definitely blown. I have a horn now, not sure if I did before or not, but still the light is on and no cruise control. The airbag light is flashing code 27 which I believe means the passenger airbag has issues.

So I tried turning the key in the switch for the passenger airbag to deactivate it, but it only lets me turn it 45 degrees and no light comes on. It looks like the key should turn 90 degrees but maybe I'm just an idiot. I see a lot of people with the bulbs dying and running into issues but that wouldn't explain the inability to turn the key 90 degrees. Also would the airbag light being on deactivate the cruise or is that just some other issue? For what its worth, I plugged in a code reader and no codes came up, just the flashing airbag light.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Burning Smell Like Rubber Heating Up?

I just got this truck and didn't have any strange odors other than brake caliper which got replaced immediately. I got 4 new Mastercraft AXT tires last week and two days before that I got a muffler installed. I put a flowmaster on it (black) Now if I drive it about three four miles, I get a smell coming from somewhere which I can't locate because nothing is hot and it goes away within a few minutes so I cant pin point it. At first i thought it smelled like rubber heating up, but now not sure. I may take it back to tire dealer and have him check all the tires for balance. I had them do an alignment, so I would hope it isn't that. The smell came with the new tires I think....I had the exhaust worked on two days prior to that and didn't notice anything after that. I haven't checked anything else, but there isn't anything hot when I jump out and start sniffing around. Would tires do that if NEW or out of balance?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Location Of Park Assist Module (PAM)

Problems with the Parking Assist/Reverse Sensing System. I have found the troubleshooting that everyone has done very useful. I have a 2007 F350 Lariat Crew Cab with problems with the Park Assist. Whenever I put it in reverse the system shuts off( Off Light illuminates). I have checked the wiring harness and all connections, Parking switch, and Reverse Sensors. I have done everything except check the Parking Assist Module. My maintenance DVD tells me that it is located behind the glove box. I cannot find it in there anywhere. Where it is located. The trucks manufacture date is June 2006....

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2009 F250 - Auto Hub Module And Fuse Location?

2009 F250 Super Duty 4X4 auto lock hubs not working. Indicator lights on dash come on but will only go into 4 wheel drive when hubs are locked manually. Vacuum is present at lower of the two vacuum lines when engine is running. I attach the lower line to the module, rotate switch to 4X4 high or low and module doesn't allow vacuum to reach upper nipple. Which fuse operates this module?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2010 F250 - Trailer Brake Module Fault

2010 F250 Lariat, cab and a half, PSD. 5600 miles.

Sunday I started the pickup and received "trailer brake module fault" in the message center. I wasn't pulling so wasn't too concerned - hit the reset and continued on.

Sunday night I started the pickup again and received the same message followed by "check brake system". I also lost illuminated gear selection, the traction control active symbol was displayed and the traction control "off" (PB) was illuminated. After several attempts it reset, everything returned to normal and I was able to get home without incident.

Monday morning it wouldn't start. It indicated "trailer brake module fault", "check brake system", traction control active and off, no gear indication, the odometer indicated "-------" and it did not react to the key in the start position.

Tuesday morning I attempted to start and it was the same as the previous attempt. I noticed that the theft prevention appeared active (flashing) so I removed the key, locked the doors, unlocked the doors, tried again - no joy.

I kept trying while holding my mouth in different positions and finally by the grace of God it fired. I delivered it to the dealer.

The dealer called yesterday afternoon and reported that everything is a result of a bad trailer brake module. The new one is to arrive today, they will install and everything will be peachy.

I asked if they could just unplug it and reprogram the truck to believe it never had one - the service writer said it can't be done, different piece parts on trucks with or without trailer brakes.

I really have no choice but to push the "I believe" button and carry on but I am slightly concerned. The fact that the trailer brake module can cause catastrophic failure doesn't seem too cool, I don't have a real warm and fuzzy feeling associated with venturing far from pavement, reliable communication or alternative transportation.

In the meantime I suggest that no one take "trailer brake module failure" lightly.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Airbag Plumbing Together?

I'm about to pull the trigger on ordering the Firestone air bag kit for my rear. I am looking at this point to just run the hoses to the license plate and fill/deflate manually.

I am contemplating whether to run both bags to one valve or keep the sides isolated. I don't have an issue with asymmetrical loading, so the bags will always run the same pressure side to side. I don't know if body roll will be an issue if the bag are plumbed together. I am playing out the force diagrams in my head so I can see in theory what will happen in different scenarios.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Map And Airbag Light On?

1.) I am looking though the fuse list here and can't find which one operates the "map lights" that are in/under the rear view mirror. I already pulled the cover and looked at both filaments and neither was blown/disconnected. I'll be testing for power tonight to see if I have power. However. I'm guessing that I don't have power if both filaments are good and neither map light works. Which fuse controls these? I'll be testing the fuse block and the bulb base for power to try and find the problem.

2.) I just replaced my clock spring and got my horn and cruise control back. However my air bag light blinks a few times, turns off, blinks a few more times and then stays on. Do I need to clear a stored error code in my computer for it to stay off or do I have another problem?

I'm so used to the 87-91 era trucks it's hard to "relearn" all the mechanics and especially the wiring!

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2013 - Airbag Light Comes On And Does Not Go Off

I just picked up my 2013 XLT diesel last week. I noticed the Airbag light comes on and does not go off.

It does not blink or appear to give any code, just goes off for a few seconds when i start then immediately comes back on solid. Where to look? Loose connector somewhere? Due to my work hours and weekend obligations, it is hard to schedule dealer time.
