Friend parked his well working truck and when starting it up after sitting a few days it won't shift into any gear. Lever moves as normal but the truck won't move. A soft clicking sound is the only difference to be noticed when shifting the lever. where to start? Temps are below freezing here if that matters.
View 11 RepliesI may be going to look at a 2001 F250, 4x4 with a V10 engine tomorrow. I think it is a shop truck for a business. The owner said that the mechanics told him that the trans won't shift out of low gear. It is an automatic. Maybe something as simple as a modulator valve (do they still use them)?
View 4 RepliesI have a 99 f250 with some procomp (325s) that are 12.5 wide with a 6in lift my superchip tuner can change the trannys shift points but I am pretty sure a new gear ratio is needed. I dont do a whole lot of off roading with it its mainly my driving around and highway rig whats a good gear ratio that would work for me
View 9 RepliesI go out of town for work for a week and come back and my 1999 F250 V10 GAS, is acting up. It started when i tried to drive it and it didn't want to shift, it would rev up to 3000+ RPMs and finally shift really hard into gear along with the speed odo not keeping up and bouncing around not wanting to work. I also had my entire gauge cluster lit up with no key and door closed. all the lights were on and it was "dinging" like the door was open and it wasn't. you would hear it when you put your ear up to the door.
So my first thought was to change the VSS (which I did) no luck. So I started wiggling wire loops under the fuse box in the cab and the "dinging" quit.. i took it for a drive and it works like nothing ever happened. Obviously I am guessing there's a short so i brought it to my mechanic and hes saying he couldn't find anything by the fuse box but he thinks its closer or even attached to the gauge cluster itself. could this be true? Why would the gauge cluster loop throw off the shift points?
I have a '99 F250 SuperDuty Diesel with an Automatic Transmission. There is a button on the end of the gear shift which allows you to turn off overdrive -- in other words the transmission won't shift into overdrive once you press the button.
Here's my problem. I start off driving normally. I've not done nothing to the overdrive button and the truck shifts normally into overdrive. 10-15 minutes down the road, the overdrive light (which indicates the state of the overdrive button) is FLASHING. Pressing the button doesn't stop the flashing. Once this flashing starts, the only thing I notice is a much more abrupt shift from 1 -> 2 gear.
So it appears as though my shift lever (automatic) will not shift into the 1st gear position? However when I drive the vehicle, the transmission seems to shift through 4 gears, then into Overdrive? What could be the issue?
View 3 RepliesMy two oldest sons and I have a 1999 SD F250 4x4 with the V10 automatic. My boys burnt the trans. We had a spare that was pulled from the same year truck with the same motor. The boys installed it without me. Everything seems to work as it should, EXCEPT! 1-2 will not shift until 2800 rpm. 2-3 is the same. When I checked the install I found that the new trans has a speed input sensor on top of the housing behind the bell housing. It is Not plugged in, my harness does not have that plug. Old trans does not have that sensor. Is this the cause of the high rpm shifting?

View 6 Replies2015 F 250, less then 5k miles. When towing travel trailer, weight 7500lbs, on occasion transmission will not shift out of gear. Happens in first, second, or third. Very intermittent. Take off from a stop engine goes to 6k rpm. Let foot of the throttle goes all the way back to idle, still no shift. Accelerate back up to speed still will not shift. After doing this a couple of times finally shifts. Have had this happen in second and third. Not a lot of fun with cars behind you or trying to merge on highway. No codes
First trip to Ford dealer they re calibrated computer. Still happened towing. Second trip to dealer they put a flight recorder on it and I towed again. Did not hang up in first or second ,but would not shift out of third on highway doing 70mph, even when I lifted from the throttle and coasted. I finally shifted to manual and shifted to fourth and was able to upshift After reading flight recorder mechanic said it appeared normal. I explained that having to shift the transmission manually is not really normal and they agreed.
I tried searching and googling but came to no results, unless its like similar trucks. How do the 4x4 shift remove? I have an 04 F250 and someone decided to put the shift on sideways so the 4HI and etc read upside down before I purchased the truck. Do I just rip the thing off?
View 1 RepliesI have a 93 f250 4x4 with a 5.8 liter with 69 thousand miles.. the problem I'm having Is if I put It in drive it won't shift out of first but if I manually shift it from 1st to 2nd to drive it works but shifts very hard. Sometimes it will shift in drive but It shifts really hard. I don't know what It could be. We just put the transmisson back into the truck due to having to change a broken flywheel. It just don't Seem like it has any power...

When I start it up cold and drive it down my street I am greeted with a horrible slam of a 2nd to 3rd gear shift. Then while towing my TT this weekend a couple of times it held 2nd waaaay longer than it ever has before. Having issues with Torqueshift?
View 7 RepliesFriend's truck started shifting wierd the other day, starts in second gear (maybe higher). The transmission is a fresh rebuild, the shop wouldn't warranty the rebuild and blamed electrical problems outside the tranny. Fuses are all good, engine light is on but the cheapo code reader won't show a code. Did a search and no answers. Had the overdrive light flashing from before, that code was for a wheel speed sensor.

I have a 02 F250 Super Duty XLT with a triton V8 with a automatic transmission . and when I shift into reverse after driving for a while the starter engages . It does not happen all the time . If i start up the truck and shift through or into reverse it doesn't happen . the only time it happens is when i've been driving for awhile and want to back up or park it will only do it once or twice after each drive so trying to get it to happen while in the shop is almost impossible . could this be caused by the transmission range sensor . I just had the code P0705 (transmission range sensor , A circuit input ) come on but the problem has been happening for a few weeks before that code came up .
View 6 RepliesI have a 2006 F250 with the 6.0 PowerStroke and automatic transmission. I just purchased this truck at an auction about a month ago.
Today I notice the transmission is not shifting into overdrive. No warning lights. If I press the tow/haul button in no change but the tow/haul light does come on. If I press it again (to turn it off) the tow/haul light goes out but still the transmission will not shift into overdrive.
This leaves me at about 2000 RPM at 68 MPH. I just had a Ford dealer perform Transmission service last week. (20,000 miles after the last recorded service.)
I am already not happy with the service I received at the dealer so I am really hesitant to take it back to them if it is something not related to the transmission service they performed.
I was driving down the freeway the other day and when I hit a rough patch of road, nothing major, the truck sputtered and the 4x4 Low light blinked a few times on the console. I was driving in 2wd at the time. I kept driving and every bump I hit the truck sputtered as though trying to shift and the light blinked. On smooth road it didn't happen.
Today I drove to work at 6:30AM (40 miles), no issue. At noon I drove home and the issue started again. Every bump I hit the light came on and the truck seemed to want to try and shift into 4x4 low.
I got home, parked the truck for a few hours, then went out again, no issue. But about 20 minutes later it started again. I pulled over shifted to 4x4 high, drove it, was fine, went into 4x4 low seemed fine, went back to 2wd drove it some more issue came back. I've read tons of online threads regarding 4x4 lights etc, none like this and none on F250 Super Duty (2008).
I have an 01 f250 with a 4r100. Trans has not been slipping at all and yesterday it started a rough shift between 1st and 2nd. (3-4K Rpms) At the same time 4th gear stopped engaging. Shifts out of 3rd but does not go into 4th. I can hit my od button and it will shift back into 3rd and start pulling. Still no slipping just doesn't want to change 1-2 or engage 4th. I have done a full trans fluid change including new filter and tc. Old fluid looked fine with no metal flakes or garbage in it. So all new fluid still same problem. I was thinking of changing my shift solenoid.

View 12 RepliesI think the gear shift lever is loose and so I get a no start every day or two. I remembered seeing somewhere here that there was a way to tighten up the grearshift lever to fix this problem. I did a search to no avail.
View 5 RepliesI have an issue to where every once in a while my truck will not shift and when it does shift it slams into gear, and my overdrive light flashes and then I'll turn the truck off let it sit and crank it back up and it drives fine and the overdrive light is off. It shifts normal and smooth other than when this happens. Not sure if it is my torque converter or maybe a solenoid or what. My truck is an 07 f250 6.0 with 192,000.
