Well, I am getting a vibration In 4x4 99 f250 sd, pinion seals leaking and it has a little bit of movement. I have done a pinion bearing in a crown vic I had before. But not a dana 50. What am I in for, I searched but couldn't find a step by step , how long does it take a back yard guy.

View 11 RepliesTrying to figure out my rear pinion angle should be. I still have vibration in the truck around 65-70 mph and sometimes around 80mph if i go that fast. I checked my rear axle last night and its at 8.5 degrees on top of the pinion snout is that correct???? And i forgot to measure the rear driveshaft angle but i can do that after work when i get home. View 7 RepliesI just picked up an 09 F250 a couple of weeks ago and I was planning on replacing all the fluids since I'm not sure when everything had been done in the past, but it did pull a camper 5th wheel. It has about 93000 Km/57000mi on it
One thing I noticed when reading the manual is that a rear diff fluid change is not necessary on these rear axles unless they have been submerged in water or repaired etc..
Just after I got it I noticed the pinion seal was leaking. It was fixed under warranty but the dealer did not replace the diff fluid as they said Ford will not pay for it.
My question is do you think I need to replace the diff fluid or should it still be good, given the relatively low mileage.
Any good remedy for constantly freezing door seals? I have a 06 extended cab and the rubber seal between the 2 doors makes an excellent "lock" when water freezes and all but welds the doors together. I damn near broke the paddle handle trying to pull on it. I wasn't keen on dumping water on the top of the seal since the glass is so cold and the water doesn't seem to penetrate anyway. I was thinking of wiping the seals heavily with anti-freeze? or motor oil? No, a garage is not an option.

I see the gears are attached with solid brackets, which I assume, as just torque to spec and not worry about backlash. What is the torque spec for the four bolts holding the gears/yoke in place?
View 2 RepliesI am working on my Dads 01 super duty with a 5.4, automatic, and the pinion bearing has seized up due to a lack of fluid from a rusted out rear diff cover. The tag on the diff cover had a 10.5 stamped on it and has 12 bolts. Is this known as a ford 10.5"
I have changed gears and pinion bearings in a Dana 70 before is this the same process? What are part numbers for a new pinion bearing and seal? Gears are in fine shape.
My truck had devolped a whine/howl over the past coulple hundred miles. I thought it was a wheel bearing failing me. So yesterday I pulled it into the shop and jacked up the front end. Everthing checked out fine so I jacked up the rear end, started it up, put it in gear and to my surprise the noise was from the rear end.
I pulled the rear end apart and found the front pinion bearing had a defect in the race and the rollers were starting to pit out causing the noise and harshness when turning it. The truck has 130k, seal wasnt leaking and fluid looked/smelled normal. I think it was a legitimate defect not from abuse or lack of maintenance.
we've had a bunch of snow this week and I've been driving around with my hubs locked in. today I noticed when I was slowing down to pull into my driveway I could hear a slight squeaking sound(sounded like a squeaky belt) coming from the front.
I verified it was coming from underneath the truck behind the engine compartment so I unlocked the hubs and went for a drive, the sound was gone. I crawled underneath and turned the front driveshaft by hand and I could hear a slight rubbing sound at the back of the pinion. The bearing doesn't have any play in and there are no leaks. What is going on? Could the bearing be starting to fail or could the rubber seal around the pinion have some grit in it causing the noise?
I have a 03 super duty 3/4 with 45000 miles. I have squeaking sound coming from the front end. My local ford dealer says ford has been replacing those front axle seals but the noise comes back.They said the fix is to keep a dab of grease on them of which I.m doing.That does take care of it for awhile but the squeaking does come back until I put a dab of grease back on them.

View 2 RepliesI was looking underneath the truck yesterday and saw that the rear end pinion seal was leaking. Looked like it had been for a while. Truck has 35,850 miles on it. Unscrewed the fill plug and a lot of pressure is released. So I'm assuming the breather is clogged somewhere along the line. I have an appointment at the dealer on Friday to see whats wrong. What is supposed to be at the end of the breather tube? Mine has a barbed 45ish degree fitting on the end of it. Its a SRW by the way.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2008 F-450 Lariat 6.4 4x4. I recently started noticing the front driver side wheel (best I can tell) wheel makes a noise as though it's binding uo when turning either direction, and I can feel it as well. 4wd is not activated and the hubs are in auto. When the front end is off the ground, I rotated the wheels and they spun independently unless the hubs were locked. I noticed what appear to be seals on both the driver and passenger side hanging loose (see pics). What this might be? I recently used the 4wd when we visited White Sands National Monument while pulling a 5th wheel RV.

View 2 RepliesMy rear end cover has been leaking and I don't have time to fix it right now. I was going to check the oil and maybe add some if needed but I cant find anywhere to ad oil or check it? Am I missing something? The add plug is the one Id like to find.
View 2 RepliesHaving problem with wastegate leaking or dumping by itself or if it is another issue. My buddy has a 7.3 powerstroke dp tuner banks intake and exhaust. Tranny was just rebuilt after he received his truck back. It seemed to start blowing off really fast while under acceleration u could hear a leak and really would bad flutter after the hard shift! We where thinking waste gate the entire time so he order a banks big head yesterday!
