I have a 2000 taurus and I have been having trouble with my power steering. Its leaking badly & from where I see it is Leaking is under the car on the passenger side by the tire. Also essentially the taurus power steering runs on transmission fluid so could it be a practical idea to use trans stop & sea to slow the leakage til I get to a mechanic?
View 4 RepliesMy power steering seems to have sprung a leak. There is quite a bit of fluid below the passenger side of the steering rack. The leak seems to be right below where the power steering hose comes down off the pump, gets secured to the chassis and changes to metal line from rubber. The metal line then goes into an L bend and is routed towards the driver side right where the leak apparently is.
I haven't had a chance to have a good look, as it was 10:30 at night when I parked it and looked (12km of careful city driving since it started to act up)
Is this a high pressure or return line?
The leak seems to be forward of the steering rack, so hopefully I wont have to replace it.
My 2002 Ford Taurus has 73,000 miles and was in good shape except for a small leak under driver's side. Has a new rack and pinion replaced one week ago. Have now noticed small leakage again. Also, when the steering wheel is turned it makes a clicking sound...almost like winding a clock. Rack and pinion replaced and alignment done. Why would it begin leaking again. This is a very comfortable car and has been maintained.
View 4 RepliesI just see a fluid by the front passenger tire leak when the diesel is running and ac is on.There was fluid up by both aluminum lines going into a plastic canister in the engine compartment on the passenger side.I couldn't find any cracks in the hoses or aluminum lines..The plastic canister I believe is (AC ACCUMULATOR ) did have a hiss of air when I shut the truck off. I can't see where the clear liquid is coming from. Just started to leak by the front passenger tire.
View 3 RepliesI moved my truck before I noticed exactly where it was coming from then after ward looked in the engine compartment. I had a puddle under the passenger side looks like the hoses going into the passenger glove box area (because I saw a few drops on them). The liquid is silvery. Any guess what fluid this is or where it might be leaking.
The antifreeze doesn't seem to be getting lower. I drove it yesterday for about 30 minutes and no crazy leaks.
2003 7.3 175,000 miles...
Saw a stain in my driveway where you normally see AC drip. Opened hood and saw degas empty.
Looking around like crazy and find wet area. Where the coolant line turns down beside the passenger fender.
Looks wet near bend going toward running board. Didn't get to inspect much but I pulled back a bit of loom to inspect shape of lines and they look great.
What could be going on?
My 7.3 has a leak on the front diff passenger side. It went into a shop for repair and they did both seal but the passenger side came out with a worse leak than it went in with. So just looked this morning and small pool of oil under the ujoint area on the concrete. Its booked in again to be fixed under warranty repair (place that fixed it, repair came with 2yr warranty) on Wednesday next week - was the earliest I could get.
Question - can i keep driving the truck? I'm making a wild assumption that I can unless I use 4 wheel drive. My intention was to just keep topping up the diff to ensure there is fluid in it. It's the work truck so wouldn't be good to be without....
I have a small coolant leak coming from the passenger side near the back of the engine that forms a spot about the size of a dinner plate if it sits for a few days.
One thing I noticed is if I turn off the AC selector switch when I park I will get the drip but if I leave the switch on MAX AC when I shut the truck off I do not get any leaking.
It is definitely coolant and not just the condensation from use of the AC. If I haven't used the truck for a few days or if I have run it with the AC off I will get the drips.
If I run with the AC on and leave the switch in the on position when I shut the truck off it won't leak. I have tried to locate it from looking above and below but can't determine where it is coming from.
We have a 2010 Ford Taurus. In good repair, regular maintenance has been done, 80k miles, mostly HWY.
Friday when I started the vehicle there was a sound that lasted for about 10-15 seconds that was like "Tack tack tack tack tack tack tack" coming from the passenger side dash seemingly behind the glove box. Perfect rhythm.
No dash warnings or alarms. Everything seems to be functioning fine. I've started the car 4 times since then with the exact same behavior. Only occurs when I first start the car.
The AC seems to be working well (thought maybe it was something related to that as it's just gotten warm here).
The local Ford Dealership is an option however they are an hour away so if this is something I might be able to diagnose and fix myself, I'd prefer to. My searches thus far indicate that it could be a problem with a blend door actuator but I've not seen much info on what investigating/replacing that might encompass.
I just finished installing a new turbo (shaft play and lots of oil in the compressor side), RR up-pipes, and T500 (250k and once had a very long crank to get the ICP up to start).
Anyway, except for another exhaust leak at the pass side up-pipe to manifold, it seemed to run okay but with lots of white smoke. I only have about 50 miles after the install, when it suddenly starting surging and made a lot of loud knocking noises. This then went away and came back again rather quickly. I was close to home, so I made back under power. I also received the two codes listed. My IPR is original, but two summers ago I installed the IPR re-seal kit. Everything on the IPR looked good when it came off for the T500.
After reading around, I saw that low fuel pressure / air in fuel can cause problems. I connected a pressure gauge to the pre-filter port on the filter housing, and got 40psi at idle. I then took a diesel shower and blew out the fuel line into the tank. After re-connecting it, the fuel pressure stayed the same but the engines idles much better, but still has blue smoke. It's the original fuel pump (to me anyway) and original fuel line connections.
I have about 3/4 tank, and no place to put it, so I'd need to run it out for the Hutch mod, or least to get in there and inspect. Would eliminating the Ford connections at the pump be worthwhile for now, and is 40psi at idle adequate? Wondering if it's time for a fuel pump?
2003 F250 7.3... I noticed a water leak dripping down onto passenger side front leaf spring. I saw this before but attributed it to the AC (which kicks butt) but haven't used the AC. No scent to the clear fluid, temps all look good. Running fine. Where does the AC discharge go? Could AC be on (not on AC but set in blue zone on dial)? Reservoir looks ok but could e small volume of drips.
View 12 RepliesHow to check the stabilizer links. 05 Taurus, 4 sedan, 83K miles. Have a distinct noise coming from the front passenger side when going over a bump. Just checked the following and here's what I've found: Checked the ball joint - no play whatsoever, it looks good under the "pry bar" test under the control arm. Tie rod end is tight- no play at all. Strut mounts seem fine. The stabilizer link looks fine - no rust, tears, etc. But I can easily, by hand, twist it freely. However, prying up on the stabilizer bar doesn't seem to show any play on the link itself. Should these be tight (at the joint) to the point where you need some "muscle" to turn them ?? I'm not sure what's left to check.

View 6 RepliesReplace the seals in a power steering rack on a Passat? I recently noticed I had a fluid leak after seeing spots on my driveway. After discovering it was power steering fluid when I checked the reservoir, I checked all the lines and found the leak coming from the rack on the drivers side. The boot on the steering rack had come loose and there was fluid leaking from the side of the rack. Is there a fix for this or am I looking at a expensive repair?
View 6 RepliesA Power Steering leak has developed on my 2002 Alero's driver side near the front wheel. I've been aware from other posts that it may be the Rack and Pinion, a power steering pump or a seal. There has been no noises in my steering when I drive and its steering well as it ever was. I am wondering is there a way to detect what of the three things it may be?, without taking it into a dealership or shop?
View 4 RepliesThere is a knocking sound coming from the passenger side dash board in my 2010 Taurus. I found a youtube video that indicated in was a recirculation door motor. I replaced that but the knocking is still there.
View 8 RepliesJust noticed today that the car is chewing the inner side of the passenger tire. The remaining 3 corners do not have this problem. The car is lowered.
I think I have maybe -1.2 camber in front, not more than that. I don't know if its the toe that needs to be adjusted or something else is causing this? Just seems weird that only 1 tire is having the problem.....
I was driving my Taurus a few days ago when it lost all acceleration and power steering. The engine seemed to be running okay, and it restarted at the side of the road, but still no acceleration. I called AAA and had it towed to my mechanic. The following day they called and could find no problem.....
they had driven it several times, checked out likely causes but found nothing. This garage has been very reliable in the past. They said it could just be an electrical issue that may or may not happen again. The car seemed fine when I was driving it today, but I am worried about it happening again. What could have caused this/what I should do?
Immediately after putting new tires on my '02 Taurus SES, steering is really hard at the pullout, or turning at slow speed just after startup. After several seconds, steering is back to normal. I did have the steering pump flushed out with new fluid several months ago, and fluid is up to level now.
View 6 RepliesI have a 1999 ford taurus (3L,automatic) which I use here on the farm. A fluid leak in the return line from the cooler needed to be repaired last summer now after a couple of months a new problem occurred. When you stop and turn off the engine power steering fluid explodes out the filler cap. The fluid is foamy with air. I replaced the pump with a good used pump, then replaced the rack with a remanufactured unit and checked all the lines. I can't detect any evidence of a leak, (The old rack did appear to leak). I suspect that this is caused by an air leak in the return circuit causing air in the fluid which is compressed until the pump stops then expanding back through the pump into the reservoir.
View 3 RepliesWe bought the X like almost year an a half or two years ago. Since the day we bought her shes had an exhaust leak on the pass side. Ive been a mechanic forever and it didn't bother me at purchase. Well I finally get around to it this last weekend. My son and I get to repairing her on saturday. Well we got manifold off with the intention of ordering a new set of headers. Well Luke talks me into just replacing the broken stud (got lucky only had 1 on the pass side). And replacing the gasket. So I took the manifold to get resurfaced,got the new studs and gaskets.
We reassy everything. It went well, start her up and wow shes finally quiet. I love it. So were sitting there admiring our work (took most the day as we had to drive 40 minutes away 1 way to get parts and angle drill alone). As were sitting there chattin for 5 minutes im like do you hear that.....Its getting louder luke WTF.....WELL IN 5 MINUTES THE DAMN LEAK IS BACK... It sounds like its back at the original place but while listing with a hose it sounds like its also at the y pipe. But the sound can be traveling......
I def am not a fan of Autozones felpro gaskets but they have worked in the past. But they look NOTHING like the factory units but still should work. Well I searched all weekend and read tons of posts on what to get. As I def want to replace the y pipe also. In the end said ok,what the hell. I just got off the phone with BANKS. I ordered headers,y pipe,gaskets,etc. I didnt want to spend that much but after pricing headers (from all manuf's and a new y pipe) the BANKS complete system wasn't much more...
Kit should be here tomorrow or wed at the latest. And I just want my X to be exhaust leak free. Im not big on taken pics during install of stuff but ill try and ill post up after it done.
