Very weird indeed...our 20th AE sometimes will give off this very light horn noise that appears to be coming from the passenger rear tire area...I looked around and couldn't find anything..
The noise is very faint, and repeats in a beep, beep, beep and the longer it goes on, the more space between beeps....very weird.
I tried searching around, but nothing. the rear door on the passenger side sticks out a little, im wondering if there is an adjustment i can do to fix this.. its out less than a quarter inch. someone said adjust the striker, but i cant seem to find it.
View 8 RepliesMy rear camber is different from driver side and pass. the ride height is the same, looking from where the fender tucks the tire. but if you look from the rear it cambers in more. I don't know the problem.
View 23 RepliesI recently developed a tapping/popping noise come from the passenger's side of my GLI. The noise is kind of hard to explain, it's similar to the popping sound the seats make every once in awhile when you move around in them, if that makes any sense. I can't really get a video of the sound because I don't think it's quite loud enough. It's starting to get worse, and getting aggravating. It's not coming from the seat, it's more up near the front of the car, maybe where the door hinges are? I can't really pinpoint it.
View 5 RepliesI have 7mm spacers and when I take a hard turn, I get like an almost bouncing, rubbingish, thudding noise and feeling from my driver side wheel/tire area. I have FK coils. Do I need bigger front spacers? I have RC's btw, it gets worse as I go lower, and seems to go away if I really raise it up... how does everyone get away with this?

View 2 RepliesI have had a bad squeak on the front passenger side suspension. It only happens while you are pulling into a driveway, going over a speed bump, or driving slow on a bumpy road. I brought my car to my mechanic and he thought it was the control arms that were shot. They were changed after forking over some cash. I noticed right away the handling was better due to the control arms which is said were shot. But... the squeak is still there, and has not become lower sounding at all. He said it might have something to do with the suspension but it is not worth it to change all the parts.
View 11 RepliesWeirdest thing happened this morning. I went to start the car and the horn was immediately on. I figured maybe the steering wheel was stuck. Anyways it went for a bit then while I was on the highway it came on and stayed on. People were looking while I'm going 60mph with the horn blasting. Anyways it went off on its own. I checked the fuse today and it is blown. I no longer have a horn. Why this happened? I will take the steering wheel off tomorrow to check the grounds.

Long story short...car got broken into, radio stolen, n00b-dumbass radio installer from the insurance company was fuddeling around with the fuse box to power the radio via a 12v source (again...long story). His hands were also behind the kick panel below the steering wheel to run some wires. I only noticed the horn not working a few days after this guy worked on my car. Coincidence?
Is there a fuse / relay that goes bad with our horns?
Pulled off of the freeway on my way home from a superbowl party and felt some vibrating coming from my rear passenger tire. It's snowing pretty heavily here in the Minneapolis area so I thought it was just snow packed into my rim throwing off the balance. I pull into my driveway and go to look at it and find it flat. TPS indicator light never came on.
Long story short, I'm taking the car in to a dealership in the morning to get a new tire, since it will be covered by my wheel tire protection plan that I got when I bought the car. Also will want them to take test my TPS and fix it when they see it doesn't work.
2004.5 GLI 1.8t. Its got 70k on the clock, its a Cali car, runs like a charm BUT... For some reason when it gets warmed up, it makes a knocking noise by the pass side floor board?
Its just at idle, i mean i can give it a little rev, and it doesn't seem to get worse so that eliminates bottom end or head... so???? Ive read some post on here that say... its nothing... just ignore it... but idk.
Like I said its just at idle and it sounds like its coming from the pass floorboard.... I left it running and popped the hood and couldn't hear it.
I've been fighting with this noise for probably about 4 months now. I've replaced my strut mounts and strut bearings thinking they were shot, but this didn't even begin to stop the noise. I seem to be hearing it whenever the weight of the car is shifted. The best way to describe the noise is a tapping or high pitched thumping. It's definitely coming from the right corner of the car. Also, I have been hearing a grinding noise from that side when turning the wheel sharply to the left.
I was thinking this was because my brakes needed to be changed and the indicators were scrapping whenever I turned the wheels. I work full time and go to school, so I don't have a lot of time to figure out what's going on. That's why I'm posting here, so I can maybe get some insight before I have time to look at it this weekend. By the way, I have jacked the car up and shook the wheel to check the ball joint and wheel bearing. The wheel was very tight and I didn't feel any play at all.
So there's been a noise coming from what seems like the transmission for some time now.Here is how it began...One day I was reversing and noticed this clatter/grinding/vibrating noise coming from underneath my car. It only happened in reverse.However, now it's happening in all gears but not when accelerating, ONLY on deceleration in gear.
There's no clutch slipping, no noticeable loss in power, etc. Just the noise.I don't want to start replacing things left and right hoping it will fix it so throw-out bearing, trans mount, flywheel, etc?

Have a noise coming from their engine bay that kind of sounds like a bird chirping, but when you depress the clutch, it stops?
View 10 RepliesI just picked up a 20th about a month ago. It has 50k on it and recently I've noticed a faint whining coming from under the hood, most noticeable under idle and it changes pitch when I turn the wheel. I check the P/S fluid and it was low so I topped it off and I believe it has improved a bit but not too sure because I haven't gotten a chance to drive it yet. The steering does feel a little heavy but I figured that's normal because, well it's not a cadillac.

Once I got back home a couple weeks ago and drove my 20th, i heard a rattle coming from the middle of the car. Jacked it up and starting banging around. The sound is coming from my resonator. Its either the clamp that is busted or the resonator itself. I have to get in closer to see which it is. But I do have a few questions. If I just cut the resonator cut off and weld a straight pipe to that will it be much louder. I have a stock 20th and I'm not really looking for a loud exhaust at the moment. Is it much louder without the resonator? I know if you put a straight pipe in place of the muffler it is MUCH louder so I'm just curious.
View 1 RepliesI had a friend check out a noise coming from my engine, and he said he thought it was an "idle pulley", and another friend say it sounds like my injectors. Its kind of a tinny sound and it gets louder as my RPM's go up. I dont know where to begin for diagnosis, but I heard it on a different Jetta about a week ago.
View 4 RepliesIs this possible? I recently installed raceland ultimos and I get this weird muffled noise from the top of the rear suspension. Took it all apart, cut the bump stops shorter, and lubed the strut mounts. Sound went away for about 10 mins of driving, went for another drive and the sound was back. The next day the weather was warmer and the noise was gone. Should I just get new strut mounts?
View 6 RepliesI was driving yesterday going up a hill in lower gear... i think 3rd... and had the RPM's up sort of high, I heard a noise that sounded like if you stuck a stick into a fan...smoke also came out of the exhaust when pressing the gas.. smoke has come out before but I got my oil changed figured it might have just been burning off some oil.... I was thinking the catalytic converter??
View 2 RepliesWhen I drive my car past about 3000 rpms then let them fall i hear an odd sort of vibrating noise coming from the turbo between where ever I rev it up to and about 2600 rpms. Is this normal? Its fairly quiet and can only be heard without the radio on and if your listening for it. This worries me because I've only had this k03 for about 5000 miles .Some background info I am chipped with uni at 20psi, full 3" turbo back and an 007 dv.
View 3 RepliesRecently picked up a 05 GLI with the bbs wheels. Last night i was driving into my parking garage and noticed a clicking noise comming from the back left wheel.
I lifted the car on that side and spun the wheel but it didn't make the noise. But once i set it back down and rolled the car the click came back. So i'm guessing it has something to do with pressure being applied to the wheel.
