GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Squeaking - Front Lip Has Small Crack?

Feb 19, 2010

I just picked up a BMP 20th ann last weekend after looking for a nice clean one for a while. I love the way the car looks compared to my stock 1.8t gti, and I am also loving the Recaro seats. The 20th is all stock, and i have a few minor things in mind for it just to get the car to look how i want. I also had a few questions... do tires rub against the front when turning sharply? The car has stock suspension... also the front lip has a small crack and i was wondering if it was worth it to get it fixed or to buy a new one? And there is an annoying squeaking sound coming from the steering column area...

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Front Wheel Making Squeaking Sound When Driving But Stops When Brakes Applied?

I just replaced my front brake pads and rotors. Car had no squeaking sounds before this. When changing the right front pads and rotor, the set screw that holds the rotor in place snapped on me when I tried to remove it. I drilled out the remaining screw and inserted an easy out / screw extractor to try to remove the broken screw. Screw wouldn't turn/budge and eventually the easy out snapped in half while trying to turn it. Here is where I fear I made a little problem into an even bigger one; I tried to remove the broken easy out by banging the back end (smaller end) of it with a hammer and screwdriver, hoping it would pop out from the front of the hub. No success, and continued using a lot of force to try to remove it from the rear part of the hub. Eventually I noticed the hub area by the back of the easy out bent a little from me using force from the rear to remove the easy out. I stopped there, bent the hub section back to original shape (didn't bend too much to begin with) and sawzawed off the protruding end of the easy out from behind.

After driving a few times I started noticing the squeaking sound coming from the front right wheel, the sound sounds like is in tune/harmony with the wheel rotation. As soon I step on the brakes, the sound stops. I had a similar sounding problem with a rear wheel a long time ago and it ended up being that the bearing needed adjustment. I know the front bearings are pressed in so they can't be adjusted. I am thinking the force used to try to remove the broken easy out damaged something with the hub or bearing or maybe the axle nut.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Small Little Backfiring At Idle

So my car has 67k on it, is babied and taken care of. She runs good however at idle, she seems to put out small little backfires. I just noticed this a little while ago. Sitting in the car I can feel when this happens, it's like a small quick sputter but I'm getting no noises from the engine when these fluctuations happen. The exhaust from almost up by the DP back to the tailpipe will move with the sputter if that makes sense. Seems like it's a slight misfire but im not really sure what it could be. runs strong and the temp always reads normal and I am getting no CEL.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Small Wet Spot Forming When Car Jacked Up

I was changing my oil today in my GLI and I noticed a small wet spot forming when I had my car jacked up. This is the first spot that I took notice too, and since I had my car jacked up. Its seems to be a clear liquid at the junction point where the two hoses are zip tied together.

Also I don't know if this is the right forum for my car the title says 2004.5 Gli mine's an 03. If this is a big deal just let me know and I'll delete this post and go else where.

I have 20th gti and I downshifted into third the other day and heard a small grind and all of the sudden I lost all my gears, I couldn't shift into anything and was stuck in third. I was able to move the shifter up and down from 3rd neut to fourth without engaging the clutch but it was all the same gear:S I managed to get home in third considering I was close by and when I stopped i was able to throw it into reverse but it would act like i was in a high gear(either 4th 5th or 6th I am not sure).

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Clutch Pedal Operates Properly But Squeaking Noise Coming Within Cabin

So your clutch pedal operates properly, the clutch engages with no issues, but this annoying squeak, snap, crackle, and pop noise keeps coming from the clutch pedal within the cabin.

Could it be your clutch master cylinder? CMC is not leaking in the engine bay and the driver footwell. Not the CMC.

Could it be your clutch switch that's used to control revs and cruise control? Removed it and clutch pedal still made noises when pressing and releasing the pedal. Not the CS.

Could it be the over-center spring that sits behind the clutch pedal assembly? How could it be? It's just a spring. Springs that compress in that orientation don't make snap, crackle, and pop noises.

What most people fail to realize is the noise is coming from the pedal assembly, but it's not the pedal structure or the pedal. It's the pivot point where it mates with the clutch pedal mounting bracket. At the pivot point are two bushings (one on each side of the pedal structure) that wears out over time creating these noises.

Please look up the part number for these bushings. They look like the following at this link but these are aftermarket upgrades for BMW's.[URL] ....

Jeep - Liberty :: Small Crack In Radiator - Replacement?

I drive a 2003 Jeep Liberty with 151,000 miles on it. Since this problem concerns my cooling system, I'll give you some background info:

I bought the car with 83K. Have done coolant changes at 90K, 120K, and 150K. The last service was done immediately after my water pump crapped out. I had a new water pump installed and had the cooling system completely flushed and refilled with Mopar HOAT coolant (per manufacturer's specs).

Today, I brought the jeep in to have the spark plugs replaced and have some warped brake rotors replaced. My mechanic told me that he also found a small crack in my radiator. He said it was near the top of it. I can see evidence of fluid squirting onto the upper radiator hose - there's some white residue on there. There are no cracks in the hose itself. Just the one my mechanic found near the top of the radiator itself.

Here's my question. I'm due for an oil change in 2000 miles. I'm wondering if I can wait until the oil change is due to have him replace the radiator. Would it be smart to just buy a jug of coolant and keep an eye on the level in my reservoir and top it off with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water as needed? Or should I go ahead and just have him do the radiator ASAP? I drive about 30 highway miles round trip to and from work every day.

Ford Aerostar :: Vacuum Leak - Small Crack In The Hose

Searched several times over the winter. Finally tore each hose out one at a time and went carefully over it before returning or replacing.

Turned out to be the long formed semi flexible vac. hose that runs from the gas fumes purge tank control valve group to the throttle body across the top of the engine. Ripped it out, on one of the bends was a small crack all the way thru, apparently would open up wide when stressed and cause problems. Mainly on hill pulls or hard acceleration but not every time. NO hair left after this one.

Replaced, deleted the codes. Runs like a top.
Still amazed at how much power these 4.0L V6 OHV Fords have from low speed on an uphill on ramp drag race.
stirs the old hot rodder blood.

Experiencing this bucking when shift? Maybe I just suck at shifting?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Rubbing On Front Passenger Side?

Couple of days ago I notice some rubbing on my front passenger side and I'm pretty sure it's my sway that rubs on the axle. I could understand that if I was slammed but I'm not even all the way down on my vmaxxs. I have about 15 threads left and it still rubs especially while making left turns. When I first got my coilovers I used to drive all the way down with no issues but now it's getting worse and worse and I don't know what to do besides going up couple of threads. The tricky part is that my driver's side front doesn't rub at all. Any ides why would start rubbing all of the sudden when it never rubbed before even when I was lower? Is there anything I could do, maybe adjust the end links or something? I know I can cut the sway out but but I'm pretty sure there is another way to fix it since it started rubbing recently.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Noise From Front Suspension When Backing Out Of Garage

Noticed the other day when I was backing my GLI out of the garage a clunking or popping noise that sounds like it's coming from the drivers side. It only doesn't it once and only when I am backing out and turning at the same time like out of my garage or parking spot at work. My car has roughly 54 thousand miles on it and still the original suspension.
