When I turn off my 2010 Golf TDI it sounds like a jet shutting off. I've had the car for over a year and it just started doing this. Is this just a noisy fan winding down?

I have a 2012 R with 85,000 miles, APR chip running 93 octane with a HPFP and VWR cold air intake. I was driving my car today (slow driving on highest) and all of a sudden I felt no turbo boost, and heard a weird sound whenever I hit the gas. Car moved but would not get above 3500 rpms and couldn't really get past 60 mph. Again, absolutely no boost (I have a boost gauge as well to verify).
About to drop off the car at a shop but had a couple questions:
1. If the turbo is blown, can I still drive the car to the shop (not too far) without damaging the engine itself?
2. if the turbos needs to be replaced, what are my options besides getting the stock turbo replaced, without getting some crazy setup? This is my daily driver and I don't want to spend money beyond what I need to get it fixed, but it there is a stronger more reliable turbo for about the same as a OEM, I would want to consider... Also price for OEM replacement??
3. Without the mechanic looking at it, I'm just assuming it's the turbo but what else could be the issue? All the lines looks intact and intake is fitted correctly. I did have issues with my cam follower getting damaged at 45,000 miles (there was a hole in it) and I have been replacing it every 20,000 miles since. Didn't have any issues for 40,000 additional miles, but could damage to that cause turbo failure?
I notice on my golf tsi 2015, there is a weird sound coming from the hood. It could be the engine or something? This is not the first time I heard this thing.

For the past week when i go into boost I hear a strange sound, almost like a wet belt sound (everyone knows that annoying sound on old ford on a rainy day) Again it only happens when in boost. When the car idles the noise is gone.

When I accelerate as the car is going to shift, there is a weird noise coming from the back area. It sounds as if it were a bunch of walnut shells being crushed and swished in a coffee can. Is that something that sounds like it could be normal? Today was the first time I drove with the windows down and heard it. I'm wondering if it has always been there... it sounds very loud though. It echos very loudly back into the car from nearby things as I drive by... It sounds to me a lot like when you would take a wind up toy past it's point were you weren't supposed to...
View 13 Replies i started hearing this weird creaking noise about a month ago. When it started happening it would only occur at very low speeds and then it would stop, now it happens all the time unless i'm turning. I've heard it could be bushings but I'm not sure. What weirds me out is a lot of the time it'll stop either when I'm turning or if I shift into neutral.

I'm the proud owner of a 2005 MK4 1.8t gti, and recently it started making a weird sound when it starts kicking in to boost, where it would normally make a whistle sound while the turbo spools up it now makes a sound that reminds me of a supercharged car, it feels like it could be a leak but I don't have an ecl popping up, it does kind of platoes in the powerband, I hope I'm making some sense ..
View 24 RepliesI just got a 2001 Jetta 1.8t 100k miles, and had some repairs done - timing belt - K03S Turbo - Forge Tip - 2.5 Turboback Exhaust. I bought the car without a working turbo, yesterday I got the car back from the shop and it was a night and day difference..... but to my point, today I had some CEL's pop - Charge Pressure control positive deviation, Pressure drop between turbo and throttle valve, and secondary Air injection system incorrect flow detected. Now I have never owned a turbocharged car before, but when my windows are rolled up and im accelerating, I can hear what I am guessing is the turbo starting to spin over by my passenger side(2k ish rpms+) except it doesn't have clean spin sounds, kinda sounds like bearings are goofed or something. This noise only happens when I am accelerating or cruising? I also have felt really no change is boost or power!!

View 3 RepliesLike the title says, weird sound after sitting in the car in off position around 15 min. or so. The first time this happen I jump out to see if a bird landed on the roof of the car, but no bird. Anyways, It has done this every time I sit in my vehicle with it off.
View 8 RepliesI have a 99 passat variant with the 1.8T. I recently put in an Evo intake, forge dv(reversed), denso iridiums and an upsolute chip and ever since I put the intake in I hear a honking air sound from under the hood. I only hear it for a little bit when I reach a certain point on the gas pedal then it goes away until I reach that point again under throttle. It's like a really low car horn sound. I know it can't be normal for my mods but it started ever since I put in my intake. It's just annoying. Can it be a leak in the intercooler hose or a vacuum leak. I can't figure it out I looked under the car and the intercooler hoses seem fine.
View 3 RepliesI have an 07 Passat 2.0T with 48,000+ on it. I tend to overthink any little sound my car makes that doesn't seem normal and this one has me perplexed. When I am driving at low speeds, windows down, I hear what amounts to a "psst" sound come from my front shocks only. I understand I have gas shocks on the front but it doesn't seem like any other car makes this sound.
The ride is comfortable and the sound does not seem to affect the suspension feel. Is this a normal sound? Do you think there is an issue with the shocks? I have been searching high and low for someone with a passat that has written about this sound from the shocks.
My 2005 Accent started making this weird slapping sounds last night. I hesitate to call it knocking b/c it's not that loud. It sounds almost like if you put a some cards in the spokes of a bicycle (weird description, I know). But basically the sound speeds up as I accelerate and vice versa. It started last night as I was pulling up to the house. When I opened up the hood, it sounded like the sound was coming from the top/top back of the engine. I recently had all belts and radiator (small leak) replaced about 2k miles ago. What it may be? Car only has 67k and I drive 95% on the highway at about 70mph. I drove my truck to work this morning so I don't make the problem worse until I know what it is.

So 2 months after my accident I'm finally able to drive again and my car is 100% fixed and ready. Only 1 problem, every time I make a left turn my car makes this weird noise but I don't know what it is. I replaced my suspension and I thought it would take a couple days for the tightness to wear down and for the noise to go away, but of course with my luck it's still doing it. What can it be??
View 5 RepliesLat week I dropped my '04 V6 Touareg off at my dealer for some minor warranty work. On the way to the dealer, I noticed a weird noise and vibration whenever I turned the steering wheel. I mentioned this to the dealer when I dropped the car off. They called me later saying that there was a leak in the steering rack and the whole thing needed to be replaced. The car wasn't safe to drive, so they would provide a rental.
Today, I get a call saying that the steering rack finally came in, but that upon installing it they noticed that something connectet to the steering or front suspension (I can't remember what it was, tie rod perhaps?) was bent, probably from hitting a pot hole, and that therefore the replacement would not be covered by warranty. Needless to say, this will not be cheap.
I do not take my Touareg off road, and I don't remember hitting any pot hole so hard that it could have bent something. My questions are:
- Is this a known or common problem/issue with Touaregs?
- Could hitting a pot hole or something a long time ago cause a leak many months later?
my wagon runs fine, but when i start the engine it makes a weird sound (the same sound you might here when a UFO zips by in movies)... also, the check engine light comes on and stays on throughout the duration of my trip... what could be wrong?...
View 1 RepliesWhen I apply the brakes at speeds of 30 mph and under I hear a ticking noise. (The noise might still be there above 30 mph , but due to road noise I cant hear it)
I believe it is the front drivers side but after taking wheel off and taking it to the dealership. I can not find the problem. The dealership states they can't hear it while on several road test, but I have showed them the video clip and they have no idea what it is.
Last night I noticed a weird sound coming from the left side (alternator side) of my engine. Took a video.... I have already done my timing belt replacement about 10k miles ago. Oil is full, no leaks. Have the pcv block so it has a slight putting sound (as stated from their install manual). You can hear an inconsistent hollow growling sound that happens at idle but also under revs. Didn't notice the sound this morning but a lot last night.
