The car sat in a garage for 9 days. It had no problems before. Now I have a p0441 code that comes back after being cleared, and an intermittent gas cap light. Is there a typical problem that causes this?
After running to operating temp, if the car is turned off then restarted (like you would at a gas station, which is where I notice this) the engine will turn and turn and turn but not fire. I have noticed that stomping on the acceleration will cough it into life during this procedure. This doesn't happen every time and I have recently run high octane gas during a long distance trip.

Recent p0441 fault codes and gas cap warning light...
No other problems or codes...
Check engine light is driving me crazy, comes and go depending on weather conditions.
When "ON" the code I get is P0441 and P0171. The engine hesitates for a second or two,then stabilizes.
2001 Jetta GLX, 12v 2.8 VR6 Automatic, 157k miles.
Relevant Info: P0411 code, unknown if associated with my slightly rough idle and recently reduced mileage (down by 3-4 MPG). I see 2 N80 valves, one by the power steering reservoir and one behind the throttle body attached to the fire wall. I removed them both, got a tiny bit of what may have been charcoal out of the lower valve and tested both with a 9 volt battery. Both were closed with no power and open when I attached the battery. I cleared the code and it returns within 30 minutes.
Possibly irrelevant info:
Changed the timing chains 3 weeks ago and the code popped up just afterward. Prior to changing the chains, all I saw was a Cam Position Sensor code that is now clear. The slightly rough idle was present to a greater degree before chains were changed but has improved.
SAI solenoids look good but their little rubber hoses don't look fantastic. Could this contribute to the rough idle or is it not part of the vacuum system?
Ignition coil is new and all plug wires tested to about 6k ohms.
I've looked up other's experience with P0411's and have seen the list of possible causes. Wondering if I'm missing a possible cause, if I can test the system further without having to buy parts etc, if the reduced mpg's and rough idle are related...
So my engine light came on today while I was out so when I got home I plugged in my OBD2 reader and it gave me a P0441 code which in my Haynes manual says "Evaporative emission control system- incorrect purge flow." Before I got my scanner, I had the engine light come on and I took it to VW. It was the same thing last time. I couldn't quite understand the poor explanation given from the VW guy and so now that that code ran again.

I've been having problems with intermittent P0420 cat below efficiency code. Everything else is fine, no codes, runs great. I tried spacing the post cat sensor back w/ extender bung (after replacing post cat sensor..) and still get the code. I don't hear any rattling or anything to make me think cat is bad physically. I was told by dealer that a code update might resolve for $200 - which got me thinking that that if that was so, it should should be a problem which Feds should be aware.

It's a service bulletin saying that VW made the limits too sensitive and it seems there was a customer satisfaction campaign to update code - pdf on site CSC-10054864-8736

What Is The Problem? The electronic control module (ECM) software for the catalytic converter monitoring system is too sensitive. My wife drove the car to work, and it ran good. She got a check engine light, but it was not on when I got home from work. I started the car and it idled fine for a couple of minutes and then it stalled. I check the codes and there was nothing locked in. There was a pending coding P0321. I am not sure what a pending code is, but I assume not enough to trigger the check engine light.
After work each night this week I tried troubleshooting but I have not gotten anything accomplished. Each night the car would start fine but if I turned it off it would not start until many tries if at all. It turns over strong but won't start. I drove it around the neighborhood today and it stalled and wouldn't restart.
The fuel pump primes. When the car won't start the fuel pump relay clicks constantly. Is this normal? I replaced the fuel filter because it has been 50k miles. Is the crank shaft sensor the problem? I hate to throw money at parts that aren't the problem when I can't get a code to trip the check engine light.
About two weeks ago, while driving on a hot, humid summer night, the check engine light in my 1998 Toyota Corolla came on. The following day, I took it into my mechanic, who plugged it in and came up with the code P0441 (Purge flow fault). He told me it was likely related to the fuel vapor canister, though I see this can also have to do with vacuum lines for the purge valve and canister or a bad purge valve itself. My gas cap was, and had been, tight, so it wasn't something as simple as that.
Reluctant to deal with this immediately, I went back to driving it, and lo and behold - the light went off after several days! Unfortunately, the light came BACK ON after several more. And most recently (a few days after coming on again), the light has now gone off!
Both times the light has gone off, the weather has been rather wet, but otherwise, there doesn't seem to be a clear pattern. What this on again off again pattern might say about the problem?
Check engine light came on the other day. Brought the car over to autozone and this was the code that came back. P0441 EVAC Control System; Incorrect flow. Where I should start looking?
View 3 RepliesHave 2 problems that are giving me major problems.....especially with 100 degree heat in Dallas.
1. Ac stopped blowing cold last night out of blue. Still blows just not cold. Replaced bad fuse and drove for 5 minutes. Blew again. Checked out the control/ circuit board but looks ok. Really cant afford dealer.
2. Check engine light problem for months. Gas gauge wasn't working. Replaced fuel sending units and it fixed that but still light. Code says p441. Dealer said need solenoid valve. Replaced both the solenoid valve and the purge control valve. Still check engine light.
I have a 2001 GTI VR6 5 speed. It has an intermittent no start. When you turn the key on it will start as long as the EPC light was lit before cranking. If that light does not come on, it will not start. I also can't communicate with the ECU via the OBD2 connector if the EPC light does not come on. So I am assuming that the ECU/ECM is not getting power when this condition occurs. Is there an ECU relay that is possibly out? If so, what is its location?

Then about 1 week in today, my ABS lights came on.
I turned it off, left it for about 2 hours then turned on the car again, Got a red exclamation mark that made 2 intermittent beeps together (twice), then the ABS light went off??
Still drives smoothly? faulty assembly?
2005 Golf TDI... I'm due for a smog check, and of course, in the last few weeks I've been getting some check engine lights intermittently. I'd rather take care of the problem before trying to smog. Anyway, here are the codes.

To be honest, I haven't learned all that much about my Golf TDI. Just normal maintenance. So, I don't know where to start.
I have an 05 GLI with many mods, far from stock. In the past i have tried to recode the ABS module with my vag com to ABS only because the traction control does not work when you make 300whp and im sick of pushing the button every time i get in the car. The module will not take the recode so i gave up. Then about a week ago the ABS light came on for no reason and i can not turn off the traction control with the esp button so i checked the code.
It said something about a system test (ill have to check it tomorrow to find out what the code was) i tried to clear it and it would come right back with no other codes. Then i took the car out and beat on it and the traction control still works (or trys to) and i hammered on the brakes and the ABS still works and the fluid is still full. Then i came to red light and i after i stopped i pushed the brake petal hard and the traction control light started flashing (im still stopped and not moving at all) It just kept flashing for over a minute even after i started driving. Then the tc light stayed on and the ABS light went off. As soon as i turned the car off and back on it was ABS light on and tc light off. Still only the same code stored. I tried recoding it to a car with ABS, ESP, and HD suspension and it took that coding. But still had the same code so i recoded it back to my oem one.
Currently I have a 01 mk4 GTTDI golf. It has been parked up for a year but i want to get it on the road again, the Traction control light and ABS light are on on the dash and wont go off, i had a friend run Diagnostics and a fault of p00285 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Right (G45): Electrical Fault in Circuit.
Within the last 3 weeks i currently iv changed both front wheel speed sensors for brand new items, i cleaned the tone rings with a wire brush, and fixed a lose connection on the passanger side (RHD car). With the diagnostics we tested to see if the sensor was picking up anything, and with the car moving it wasn't picking up the speed.
I can't see any damage to the wires, and everything looks ok,

I was cruising down the highway and my check engine light came on. I was a few minutes from a auto store and they said my code was p1296. I found out it is either the thermostat or the coolant temperature sensor. I wanna know where it is located in the engine bay. I have a 02 VW Jetta 1.8T.

Just this morning, the check engine light went away.
Is this a common issue? Or should I go get it checked just in case?
Just installed a short Ram intake on my 2000 Vw Jetta 1.8t. Had the Intake for about 250 miles and now the check engine light came on. Just pulled the code p0411 secondary air injection system incorrect flow detected. Is this just cause there is more air going through the MAF sensor?
View 11 RepliesMy 2.0t threw a MIL with code P0441 about 24 hours after having the timing and all replaced. I replaced the N80 valve last week, but this did not make the light turn off.
I also have a hard time starting after filling up. What this might be?
I have a 2000 jetta 1.8t. Check engine light recently came on and the code is a PO1128. I replaced the maf sensor and that did nothing but make the car run worse. I've check for vacuum leaks and found a busted line at the egr valve, fixed the line, reset the code only to have the check engine light come back on with the same code. I am at a loss now.
