So I've had a low rubbing sound specifically when I'm turning or banking right. I don't want to put much more money into this mk4 because I'm planning on getting a new car in the next 12 months. How do I know which bearing needs replacing?
View 2 RepliesI have the most terrible clunking/rubbing sound on my right passenger side, especially when I'm turning left. When I drive straight it sounds like the wheel is hopping even when going over minuscule imperfections in the road. I also get a terrible rub when going over speed bumps or into grooves and dips in the road.
I've searched and searched but cannot come up with a answer towards rectifying the issue. My car hasn't been lowered; I'm running the stop 337 suspension. I've replaced the following within the past two years:
-control arm bushings
-ball joints
-tie rod ends
-upper strut bushings and bearings
-passenger side axle
-dog bone mount
-engine mount
-tranny mount
Most recently:
-front struts
-sway bar end-links
-driver's side axle
It seems to like everything should be solid considering I've done all of this crap. I don't understand why I'm having this issue and why it sounds like it is getting worse and worse.
My front left tire is rubbing to the point where I can feel it in the steering wheel slightly slowing the car down. This happens only going over about 40-50 and only when i turn the steering wheel like an inch to the left. To better clarify it doesn't rub while turning left going down a slope.

Ever since I've owned the car every now and then, it won't start at all; the clock will reset and so will the trip meter. When this happens, it makes a weird buzzing sound while I'm turning the key, and after I let off, the turn signal will click until I pull the key out. I usually have success starting it after playing with the buttons on the turn signal. All fuses are good, and the battery is always charged, because the stereo and lights will work fine. I'm assuming it's either a short or a problem with the turn signal relay...

When it started happening it would only occur at very low speeds and then it would stop, now it happens all the time unless i'm turning. I've heard it could be bushings but I'm not sure. What weirds me out is a lot of the time it'll stop either when I'm turning or if I shift into neutral.

I have a 2009 Camry that makes a metal to metal rubbing noise when turning left. t is coming from the Front Right passenger side. I recently changed out the bearing and hub on the front right but I still have the noise when turning left. Also, when driving normally and going straight there seems to be somewhat of a dull click click click noise.

The repair was for my ac compressor...so its not that. It's also fed so its not the common rear dif issue Honda has.
View 16 RepliesI have a 2004 F-150 STX 2WD with a 2.5" leveling kit on it. I recently have noticed a rubbing sound that can be felt in the steering wheel and gas pedal the instant you turn right. I just replaced both hub assemblies and I just really don't know what it could be. It doesn't happen when you turn left or go straight and there should be no reason as to why my tires rub, because they haven't before. I got my truck aligned and they checked my joints and everything and said that it was fine....
View 13 RepliesSo I just completed my hydroboost install and fixed exhaust manifolds. After this install the below problem started.
ISSUE: While going slow and straight no problems. Slightest bit of turning effort left or right makes a sound like a tire rubbing on leaf springs. I can also feel the vibration. It happens in drive while moving or in neutral while moving. Happens wither hubs in auto or locked. Happens in 2wd or 4wd. It's not the steering pump cause it wines a tad now when brakes applied and I turn steering wheel. So I know what that sounds like. Expected that.
Jacked it up and checked for any movement in steering or ball joints and found nothing.
X does not make the sound above 15 mph. It's annoying....sounds and feels exactly like tire lugs hitting the leaf springs but they are not.
I have a rubbing sound that seems to be coming from the steering column when turning. Don't hear it outside of cab just in the inside.
View 4 RepliesEarly this week my car started making a loud knocking/rubbing sound (Kind of in between when your brakes are ground down to the rotor and a knocking pattern).
FIRST, it started only when I turned slightly left or left.... NOW, it's doing it as I go straight and when I turn to the right as well... oddly enough it's not as bad when going left anymore...
What this could be?? And if it's an easy DIY fix..... (maybe a link on how) and how much the part(s) might be?? I've taken video (for sound as I drive)...but not sure if I can upload it (size limit).
I lowered my car recently and it makes a wicked rubbing noise when I turn right at a decent speed, I've heard the axle rubs i guess what you'd call the seat of the strut in the front, is this the case? and if so, what can be done to correct this issue, because by no means am i that that low, I've seen much lower.

View 3 RepliesHave a mk4 GTi vr6 with long beaches with sit at an offset of 38. Honestly the offset thing confuses me quite a bit. I'm running 235/17/45 tires. I had my car lowered before the winter and I can only go so low before it starts rubbing. What size spacers i should go with to basically go as low as possible. If not as low as possible, I love a wide rear end so maybe poking in the rear end and lowered in the front for like a rake effect.

View 24 RepliesIt started a couple months back, under about 20 mph I feel/hear a rubbing or grinding sound. Appears to be coming from the front end, I put I on a rack and drove it but couldn't isolate a cause. I rotated the tires, replaced the brakes to be sure there was no warping. Everything looks good, but something clearly isn't.
View 2 RepliesHad the common problem of ARB rubbing the drive shaft after I lowered an extra 15mm - It didn't rub before I went this extra 15mm. I got adjustable drop links on and they also didn't work. I basically told the garage to sort it out and they put standard drop links back on (not genuine) and also new wishbones because I needed them. Got my car back and the rubbing was even worse. So I raised it back up the 15mm, to where it was before the rubbing started, yet it's still rubbing like crazy. I'm wondering if the new wishbones may be causing this because of new bushings or something and it all being tighter. And also what am I supposed to do? I shouldn't have to buy a whiteline ARB because it wasn't rubbing at this ride height before the wishbones and drop links were changed.
To summarize:
>Lowered car extra 15mm, rubbing started
>Drop links and wishbones changed, rubbing is worse
>Raised back to the point where rubbing started and still rubbing just as badly.
I've got an 03 Jetta TDI 5-speed with 210k. I just replaced tie rod ends, ball joints, struts, shocks, springs, and bushings/bearings on the front.
After I took the car off the jack stands, I tried to reverse and the car is held in place pretty firmly. I gave it a bit of gas and it sounded like the brakes were rubbing. The brakes feel a little soft.
I checked the wheel clearance (I didn't lower the car) and everything looks fine. Did I pinch a brake line or something?
What this noise is, still getting used to having axles and such in the rear as well. Its a rubbing / winding sound coming from the rear, and seems to only make noise when the clutch is engaged / in gear and accelerating. It stops (probably from the # of rotations making it hard to hear) around 15-20 mph. It starts slow and of course increases with speed. Its not a nasty dead-wheel-bearing sound, just a rub. Car has H&R coils, stock wheels no spacers, haldex blue, stock exhaust w/ resonator delete and flapper mod. (Trying to think of any mods in that area that could change the cars dynamic) ...
