Reversing into the garage tonight and adjusting the steering slightly back and forth (between quarter to and five to the hour) i head a 'clunk, clunk, clunk'.....did it the other way - same noise... Drove forward at very low speed and did same turn slightly either way...heard same clunking noises....
View 19 RepliesRecently when I leave my driveway which only has a slight grade to it my truck makes a clunking sound when I hit the gutter and while turning slightly. Also my front drive line from transfer case to front axle has some play in it. I can rotate the front drive line about 3/4" to an 1" while parked in the driveway. Changing u joints. I figured this would be a good starting point. 2005 XLT 4x4 5.4L F150.
View 8 RepliesMy 2011 elantra started making a sound when I turn all the way to the right and slightly again once you release the wheel. It pretty much sounds like a rusty coil being stretched to it's limit. It happens while driving and turning right as well as when the car is not in motion and turning the wheel all the way to the right. Not sure what it could be.
View 21 RepliesSo my 09' Camry now has 130K KMs on it and for the last few months I've had an issue where when I turn the steering wheel (at rest and while moving) there is a clunking sound and feel in the steering wheel at various spots in the steering wheel rotation.
I'm worried the u-joints (if it uses them) in the steering column are worn out and might need replacing/lubricating but I'm not sure how to address the issue without an expensive Out of warranty visit to the dealer.
I've owned my 14.5 camry se 4 cyl since may and a few weeks into owning it i noticed a pop/clunk coming from the front passenger side while reversing and turning the wheel. So, finally got some free time to take it into the dealer today and dropped it off. Also, when letting off the brakes you can hear like a creaking noise, almost like the brakes are metal to metal but it only happens LETTING OFF the brakes?
My service advisor says supposedly the "creaking" noise when letting off the brakes is normal. I told him i really don't believe that lol and asked to test drive another new camry on the lot which is being arranged for tomorrow. In the meantime he says they're gonna look at it either way.
My 2007 Camry makes clunking noises when I turn the steering wheel to the left mostly. This happens most often when the weather is warm and hot but not during the winter time.
The noise seems to come only from around the steering wheel area inside my vehicle. Hence, I don't think it has to do with the CV Joints or anything like that but the steering wheel unit.
I've recently replaced the power steering pulleys and belts. Now when i turn car, it makes a clunking /clicking noise and sometimes the power steering tugs back a bit. 2010 camry.
View 3 RepliesOur 2012 Prius with now 17,000 miles in 8 months has developed a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel, especially far to the right at low speeds.
The first time the dealer identified it as a failed intermediate shaft and replaced it under warranty. Shortly after we told them it was starting to make the noise again, but they claimed they couldn't replicate the sound and anything they heard was normal 'linkage' (whatever that is). Shortly thereafter the clunking progressed so we took it in for now the third time, and they confirmed the problem, spoke with Toyota who said we must have had a bad part, and replaced it again.
So i have been noticing a lugging/clunking sound when accelerating from turning.
I say it sounds like that because its almost like when a noob driving is trying to shift and stalls for not giving enough gas. but this is comming from the back and for the longest i thought it was due to the ESP kicking in but i been driving quite calm lately due to blow shocks.
I wish I could get a sound clip but its only when driving. Is that normal? Prolly not but hear something when it engages? I am on a OEM haldex controller atm.
I've ignored it long enough and dont remember if it was like this when I bought it from the second owner...guess I had too much fun during the test drive. Any ways would it be an alignment issue up front or what?
View 8 RepliesI have the most terrible clunking/rubbing sound on my right passenger side, especially when I'm turning left. When I drive straight it sounds like the wheel is hopping even when going over minuscule imperfections in the road. I also get a terrible rub when going over speed bumps or into grooves and dips in the road.
I've searched and searched but cannot come up with a answer towards rectifying the issue. My car hasn't been lowered; I'm running the stop 337 suspension. I've replaced the following within the past two years:
-control arm bushings
-ball joints
-tie rod ends
-upper strut bushings and bearings
-passenger side axle
-dog bone mount
-engine mount
-tranny mount
Most recently:
-front struts
-sway bar end-links
-driver's side axle
It seems to like everything should be solid considering I've done all of this crap. I don't understand why I'm having this issue and why it sounds like it is getting worse and worse.
I have replaced the ball joints(a year and a half ago) and put in the the ecs tuning control arms with the solid bushing. Recently, I have had a clunking sound, from the left wheel, when turning right. Kind of sounds like the ball joints when they were bad. This noise only occurs when I turn right under about 30mph. It also feels like the wheel might be doing a quick "wiggle." Do you think it is the ball joint again? Could a bad wheel bearing be doing this? I have replaced the right wheel bearing, but have not done the left one yet.
View 2 RepliesI'm getting this weird sound when i turn on my car and turn the steering wheel left and right not even a full lock just left and right really quickly or slow there is this annoying clunking coming form both of the front wheels atleast thats what i think it is and it feels as something is loose but i checked most of the bolts.. Recently i changed my front wheel bearings inner cv and outer cv joints on both front wheels.. i changed my ball joints and tie rods everything was change within a 4-5months..
Also the other day as i was driving and i could only hear this 20mph and up this weird clunking and vibration in the floor.. no vibration in the steering wheel just the floor and clunking sound.. i know for a fact i need an alignment and possibly new tires.. but what would the clunking be coming form when driving or just parked in place while moving the steering wheel...
Ok this is for a buddy. He has been getting a weird noise from his drivers side wheel the last two days. The noise does not happen all the time. It usually happens when he goes over bumps. We went ahead and took the wheel off tonight (it was super dark and we couldn't really see) and the clunking is not the strut or sway. With the wheel off we would grab the rotor and move it forward and back (like the wheel is turning) and we get a clunking noise up the axle. Almost like it was loose at the tranny but we could not see. Wouldn't move/clunk much but you could hear it. What this could be?

View 4 RepliesI've got a 2008 Saab 93 TurboX AWD, 6sp manual. It's got about 40k miles and I just had my front right wheel bearing replaced in November. The clunking sound started probably 2 months ago and it started off very subtle but has now progressed to being audible even over the radio. It occurs typically at any speed and is independent of RPM and/or braking. I can feel it slightly in the steering wheel but nothing significant. It sounds like a low clunking/flapping and occurs during deceleration as well. I hear it particularly in the front center to front right of the car. It kind of sounds like a golf ball rolling around in a cardboard box if you can imagine that.
I've had a Saab specialist look at it and they've tightened the suspension and inspected for loose parts in the engine compartment as well as the wheel wells and springs were all in good condition.
Just installed raxle on my driver side. All clicking sounds are fixed but I noticed if I take right turns sometimes you can hear a constant clunking sound coming from the driver side wheel. It doesn't happen all the time, you kinda have to turn and hit a certain angle of the steering wheel. Also, only happens when driving low, if I raise the car just a little bit its gone. Never had issues with my oem axle binding so Im not sure how exactly does the binding sound?
View 24 RepliesWhen stationary and turning the wheel to the right, I get a popping noise coming from the front right suspension. It is not the subframe bolts or the endlinks (those were disconnected for testing). Car has been on Ohlins coilovers for 2 years and this just started. I've replaced the top mounts and the bearings. Tried Audi TT too mounts and new bearings again. No luck. If I loosen the strut mount bolt, problem goes away.
But obviously can't drive like that. Lifted the car on the right side so that the suspension was about half way compressed, turned the wheel and no noise. So it seems what is happening is that the metal insert in the top mount wants to move slightly, but it will only move so far. When the suspension is compressed, it sticks and then "pops" back into position. None of this makes sense as that part of the mount is not supposed to move and I have new bearings too.
I thought of placing some lube in the bottom of the strut mount where the metal insert comes in contact with the rubber of the mount.
Can you turn the wheel all the way while driving without it rubbing? I noticed today my tire rubs what I believe to be the inner fender. This can't be normal?
View 3 RepliesA few days ago my car started making a groaning noise when I turn the steering wheel. Sounds like it's coming from the middle of the car. Makes the noise whether the car is moving or not.
