My coolant says it is low. This happened last winter and I just had it topped off. This winter the car has been stored and I've been starting it every week and this time it sat for four weeks and started just fine but that's when the coolant light came on. The coolant is about an inch below the minimum line and there isn't any coolant on the ground.
View 7 RepliesI filled my coolant yesterday after driving to the "max" line. Today when I awoke it was right at the "min" line. I didn't see any noticeable liquid below the truck, except under each front fender but I think this was water from the dew evaporating/condensing and running off the truck. What happened to the coolant or did it just cool down and condense. It got pretty cool last night (mid 40s). I have an 02 f250 5.4L ... I feel like there is a leak somewhere, any link to or a procedure they can explain for finding it?
View 10 RepliesYesterday the brake warning light came on in my 13 350. I checked, and the fluid level in the master cylinder was at the "min" line. I don't think I've ever had to had brake fluid in any car before. Seems to be Ok today, but I was wondering if other folks have had this happen? Of course if it happens again I'll have to check the brake system. Just wanted to check.

View 1 RepliesThe oil cooler mounted above the oil filter on my 2002 Explorer 4.0L V6 has a major coolant leak on one of the external line/hose bib elbow. I've googled Explorer oil coolers and I've searched this forum with no luck. Can you bypass it without any problems mechanically or electronically (throwing error codes)? I have already purchased a new cooler and the lower oil cooler line. I'm just wondering if I should return the parts and bypass it. If I go through the replacement, I noticed the cooler is mounted by a pass through threaded tube with a hex head molded into it for fastening/loosening purposes. What size hex head socket it is?
View 12 RepliesI just did my 60k km service at dealer. And in the next morning, I found out that they pour too much G12 coolant into the reservoir. It is way more above the maximum line. I have booked another service appointment on next monday, but I am just wondering if the car still safe to drive?
View 2 RepliesI have a problem today i took off the coolant line, air line, and the fuel line and when i put them back on i put the coolant line into the air line accidentally and the air line in the coolant . i started the car thinking it was normal. the car started and then when i started to back up the car turned off so i knew i screwed up the lines then i found online the right way how the lines should go put them the right way and the car just cranks in doesn't start up.

View 15 RepliesAfter finally getting some issues sorted this weekend (needed a transmission flush) I was driving around a bit to make sure everything was good. On the way back to my house, the car started overheating. I replaced the thermostat this winter (~4-5 months ago) because it was stuck open making things run a little cool.
I was thinking the water pump is probably shot but not 100% sure. the radiator fans both work and when I turn on the heater, it blows hot. Any good way to check if the water pump is dead? I have a little point and shoot infrared thermometer and one side of the coolant line was way hot and the other was fine (cold ~90 deg F).
I have a 2013 GTI manual 6 speed with 18K very gently driven miles. Yesterday I noticed coolant on the garage floor and checked the reservoir which was below the fill line.
Went to dealer this morning .....bad water pump. I asked if this was unusual for such a new car with low miles and service writer said yes. After googling water pump failures of GTi's I learned this was not the case.
My rear washer fluid sprayer has always been pretty weak. I figured there was probably a leak in the line somewhere. When I adjusted my rear view mirror the other day, I saw some washer fluid leaking out of the roof liner by the driver side c-pillar. I've been having some trouble finding a good DIY on removing the c-pillar cover and patching/replacing the line, I'm hoping this will be a pretty easy fix. This is as far as I've managed to get on my own. Not far at all. Yes, that is the driver side. PhotoBooth reverses the image, since it's predominately used for face shots.
View 3 Replies02 Jetta GLS Turbo 1.8. The car runs perfectly fine, and has good power, but one out of 5 starts at minimum it sets the check engine light exactly 6 seconds after starting the engine. It is most commonly a P0340 - Cam Position Sensor Circ Error, I'd say 70% of the time. The other 30% of the time it is a P0011 - Camshaft Position Timing-Over-Advanced. And once or twice it set a P0012 - Camshaft Position Timing-Over-Retarded. It will only ever set one of the codes. I clear it after it sets, and it will never set the code while driving the car.
- I've double-checked the timing belt, and it is spot on. Could not ask for a more perfect lineup of the timing marks.
- There is no noise or rattle on cold start
- The car carries good oil pressure and I'm on a fresh change with Pentosin 5w40
- I checked continuity on the outer two pins on the cam position sensor with a result of 1.910 ohms.
What I should be looking for next? Almost spent for a new cam position sensor, but hate to throw money if there is something I could test to narrow this down. I can't find any test procedures in the Bentley manuals, but maybe I'm not looking in the right spots. The index has no mention of the camshaft position sensor.
Yesterday my car threw a CEL for the first time; I am currently APR stage II. Ran the code and came up with P2400. Code cleared, but after 1 cycle it appeared again.
Interestingly, on my way to a cookout today the car started yelling at me about low coolant. I pulled over and checked but didn't see any initial signs of leakage (was raining at the time though...). Continued to my destination and topped off with distilled H2O in lieu of G12 since I didn't have any immediately available. Once I made it back home, checked the reservoir again and saw that the level had dropped (probably ~ 1/2 cup or so). This time, I could see liquid on the belly pan, then on my driveway...
It looks like the P2400 code is indicating an issue in the leak detection pump circuit. Any chance that the coolant leak and P2400 code are related (leak shorted something out...??? I should mention I am not super familiar with the plumbing for the evap system in this car) or am I really this unlucky.
Issues with the car since purchase:
- Replaced clutch (stock would not hold stage 1 torque...)
- Wiring for radiator fan came loose, fans stopped working (took ~3 weeks to resolve due to resulting ECU issues...)
- ECU solder joint (EVAP circuit) damaged during re-flash after flashing to stock for dealer to address radiator fan issue...
- P2400 CEL
- Coolant Leak
Yesterday after getting to work i noticed a few drips from under the front of the car, at first i shrugged it off thinking maybe it was condensation or whatever. After coming back to my car about 5 hours later it had made a good sized puddle under the car and i knew something wasn't right. Well on my lunch i got under it and collected the liquid only to find that it was coolant. To make matters worse on the drive home my temp gauge would go to operating temp then drastically drop to almost cold temp.. weird. And last but not least when i parked the car at home i noticed that the cooling fans did not stay on after the car was off, since it was about 95deg this seemed wrong. Took the car to the dealer this morning and I'm hoping its just a loose pipe or something little and not anything that will keep it in the shop for a long time. Car is completely stock except for cat back exhaust, 12,000 miles on the odo.

Leaking already? Calling the dealer now...I'm gonna have Mark 4 flashbacks/PTSD if this is a preview of coming attractions.

What differences can I expect on the 18" wheels vs. what the 17" gives now?
02 Jetta 2.0L that I changed the thermostat. o-ring, and cover on when I first got the car about a year and a half ago.
I see dry g12 coming out from behind the cover and my coolant bulb had dipped quite a bit in recent weeks requiring a refill. What is most likely the problem here in such a short period of time? I've only put like 10k miles on the car in that period. O-ring couldn't have seated wrong because wouldn't the problem have been apparent immediately back when I did the job? Maybe I need to re-torque the cover? Cracked cover?

This is the only place I can find coolant leaking and it's running down all the way to the water pump:
When I wiped away from just below the valve cover gasket it flaked right off and it doesn't appear there is any oil mixed in. I changed the oil today and it didn't appear to have any coolant mixed in either.
The coolant doesn't appear to have any oil in it's nice and pink as it should be. I started the car from a cold start and sat and watched the area waiting for it to leak but nothing ever came out, of course.
I know there shouldn't be coolant leaking from this area anyways but I don't know how else to explain the trail pictured. I definitely have a small leak somewhere as I've found coolant on the floor of the garage before.
Do I just replace the valve cover gasket and move on or is there something else I should be concerned with here?
Yesterday I noticed nice fresh pink stain on fresh new concrete after a 20 minute ride, after coming back to the car an hour later. When I open the hood you there was distinct smell of wetness and dampness. I'm at 16k. Also visible at the bottom, under the pulleys dried stain on the plastic shroud. The coolant level is about quarter of an inch below min.
Furthermore I noticed oil build up around plastic intake tube just next to the firewall. So far no CEL and other issues, except my compartment lid in the middle console refusing to close and fully open.
My car has been leaking coolant as soon as you put it in from it looks like the transmission area. Today I filled the car with water and drove it on the interstate to work. The car started getting jerky like it was losing power. So I pulled over and when I did the car shut off. There was excessive smoke under the hood and after removing the oil cap, smoke coming from there also. Tried restarting and it sounds like it just spins. No start. Looked at the timing belt, it's still intact. Put a wrench on the crank pulley and it's turning. What's wrong? Is it a goner?
