@ 45k miles.
1) Loud brake squeal left front on very light pressure. Pads have 75% left.
2) Vibrating/thumping noise up front above 80mph. Does not sound mechanical and not felt through the wheel at all. Seems like a loose piece of trim flapping. Wheel well liners and plastic pan under car seem tight. And no, driving under 80 is not an option.

I own an '05 Prerunner with 56k miles. Had the front pads replaced and turned the rotors last Spring.
Now, after sitting for awhile, as I back up the front brakes squeal. (Sounds like a rock in a caliper its so loud.)
Toyota has a TSB to fix this.
I bought my 2011 Sonata with 27k miles on it. After a while (few months) I noticed on occasion when turning I would get a screeching/squeal noise from the front tires. Only happened during certain turns (U turns I noticed where higher chance of happening).
I rotated the tires (Front to the rear, Rear to the front), and then there was a loud humming noise. I got it checked with the dealer and they confirmed tires were cupping (uneven treadwear right?) . So now its been 10,000 miles and the noise is the same. I just got an alignment done and there has been not much of a change.
So, other than getting new tires, should I get the tires balanced? Or just rotate them once more so that the rear return to the front again? Will I have to get another alignment done?
I'm experiencing since outside temps are down here in Canada heavy brake squeal in the front. It is barely audible at -2/-3 Celsius, but lower (-10 and lower), it's really aggressive.
One week ago when very cold outside, I went to the dealer, I insisted for a test drive because of the cold condition this day. The tech notice the problem, and we scheduled an appointment for the next week to look at brake pads.
it's -1 outside, so brakes do not squeals... The service advisor told me, the tech (the one that tested it last week) is absent today. so if we look at this and found nothing, you will pay for the work...
So I need to wait a colder temperature to come back to the dealer...
The question is : what do you think about this problem ? are brake pads defective ? It's happen a low speed, regular braking (stop or light).
The scene: 22k miles on a 2010 Prius II. Loud rear brake squeal, worse when backing, but still present going forward at low speeds. Does not seem to go away even when warmed up. I put it off having it checked at first because a little rust on the pads is very common in my climate.
At the dealer, the tech tells me I've worn completely through the pads and scored the rotor! At 22k! On a Prius, for crying out loud! It's not my driving, either, because that's the first I've ever had anything done to rear brakes on any car before 75k. The front brakes needed no attention at all. I challenged the service tech with these points; he even took me back into the shop to show me. The caliper pistons were moving freely, for what it's worth. Ultimately he just shrugged me off.
I replaced my brake pads and rotors and now the driver's side brake has a loud pitched squeal. It doesn't squeal all the time and if I let up on the brakes and apply them it goes away.
I think maybe one piston is hung up.
How do you free up a stuck piston in the caliper piston?
Or could there be another reason for the squeal.
I installed Callahan slotted rotors and ceramic pads on all 4-wheels.
When I press and hold the brake and lightly release the pressure. The brakes would make this loud squeal. This happens when the car on or off. Just found out today that if I have to stop really suddenly, it makes the same noise. I have an rx450h w 42k miles. Any thought?
View 11 RepliesI recently had new front oem rotors and pads installed on my 13 GS F Sport rwd and after a few hours of driving the loud squeal coming from the front was very embarrassing. I'm ready to pull whatever hairs on my head I have left. When I'm coming to a stop I hear it. If I'm braking lightly I hear it. If I reverse I hear it. I had the same problem prior to replacing the rotors and pads and felt that it was being caused by not having my rotors resurfaced prior to installing the last set of pads. Now, I have new everything and I have the same problem. I've already spent so much on the front brakes and I can't stand having an expensive car that sounds like a cheap car.
View 14 RepliesI bought the 2013 GS 350 F-sport thinking it would be a long lasting reliable car.... I've had brake squeal since day one. My car now has 45k miles on it, all miles driven with the insanely loud brake squeal. It's been to the dealership many times but they've change the brake pads only once and refused to resurface or swap the rotors. After I called Lexus corporate and filled a case, I finally got the managers attention. (1800-25lexus for those in need)
The manager tells me that the brake squeal can be caused by the drivers driving pattern. He basically said that if you don't drive hard enough or maybe even drive too hard, the rotors will glaze over and you will get squeal. -so let me get this right, I have to drive a certain way all the time so I don't get brake squeal? - Long story short, he asked me to come in again so he can see the squeal himself.
Aside from the brake squeal..
-My front and rear passenger side shocks blew out and were replaced at 20k miles.
-I've had a rattle in my passenger side dash since 10k miles that the dealer refuses to fix. They say trying to fix it will cause more rattle.
-My back up camera is now pointing too low. Every time I go in for a fix it just ends up happening again after the fix.
-My rear view mirror is loose.
I can deal with the small things but that damn brake squeal is so loud that it actually pierces my ears when I brake next to a car with my windows down.. Brake squeal has now started on my sisters 2014 is350 f-sport as well. How I can fix the brake squeal so I can sell the car?
My right front passenger tire keeps making a loud squealing noise. I've had the brakes and pads changed several times and it keeps making the same noise. I've taken it to the dealer but when they drive it, of course it doesn't make the noise. They checked it and everything seems fine. I took it to another mechanic and they heard the noise as well but can't find any problems. They greased all the gears in the wheel area and it stopped making the noise for a couple of weeks, but then starts right back up again. The car drives perfectly other than that. I'm going to see if I can attach a video file so you can hear the noise. I'm thinking it could be the bearings but everyone that looks at it says they're fine. The noise in the video is much more pronounced now and is a constant sharp squeal.

Now when I turn in my left turn signal it blinks fast which I can live with that but it would be nice if it blinked at the regular phase. Here my big problem. When I turn on my right turn signal there's a loud squeal in the cab of my truck. !!!

View 14 RepliesWhile driving home tonight in the snow, about half away home I noticed the most god awful high pitched squeal sound coming from what sounded like the back passenger side of the car. The squeal was so loud it made me cringe. I couldn't really get any near 40 mph because I could hear it start and instantly it would become really loud and would only stop when I slow down almost completely and then maintain a speed around 30 mph. It's pitch black out so I couldn't conduct a real thorough inspection however a quick look over and I didn't see anything wrong.
View 22 RepliesThe sound system in my 2008 LS 460 suddenly stopped and a loud thumping noise comes up in all speakers even if the radio is turned off. There is no music at all only that loud noise. Bluetooth does not work as well as command voice and the GPS guiding system. I had to remove the fuse to stop the thumping sound. To answer my telephone I must pull on the side of the road and turn off the motor. Car dealership said that it is the first time they see that. The car is scheduled to be looked at in a couple of days.
View 8 RepliesOk I have a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L automatic 4X4 with A/C my problem is i just had the timing chain,water pump, thermostat, upper and lower hoses, and front crank seal replaced. I got it back and right away noticed a thumping noise at idle only... My gauge was always steady at the same spot it had always been. but the thumping was loud when idling. Now the sound seems to have moved farther towards the engine instead of the dash and tonight when i popped the hood noticed the top hose was collapsed and i could feel no pressure. the thumping noise seems to be coming from the area of the thermostat. I have no oil in the coolant and no coolant in my oil! I tried to get the air bubble or pocket out if thats what is the problem by running the engine till hot with the radiator cap off but it made just a huge mess. it did seem to push a huge air pocket out but still does the loud thumping. This all started the day i got it back from the mechanic so I am assuming its an air pocket. I planned on changing the thermostat tomorrow.
View 14 RepliesI was on the way to the airport in my 2004 Hyundai Accent last night when a loud thumping/clunking noise starting coming from the rear end. At first it sounded like a flat tire or something stuck in the tire so I stopped to inspect but everything looked good. I continued my trip as the noise continued to get louder but made it home. I worked on the car for several hours today and have not had any luck nailing down the cause. The sound appears to be coming from the drivers side rear tire area and would get much quieter when I turned right. It sounds like a spot on the wheel is hitting something but I don't see any area that shows signs of wear. Things I have checked:
- Jacked up back end and spun both tires, both spin with no noise and have no play.
- Removed both rear drums and inspected but all looks good.
- Inspected all rear end suspension bushings but don't see anything that stands out.
- I did notice the strut on the drivers side has some play where the passenger side is tight but when I rock the car up and down I hear nothing.
I bought a used 2009 Subaru Impreza wagon, 2.5i NA, manual trans a month or two ago. I'm in Texas and only recently it's started getting fairly hot (above 90 during the day). I mention the temperature because the thumping noise I've noted when turning only seems to appear after the car heats up, or when I have been driving it for a good 30 or so minutes. I'm not sure if it's the car heating up or the heat of the day. Either way it doesn't make the noise right as I start driving (in the morning when it's cooler). For this same reason when I took it to the Subaru dealer (during the cooler morning), they didn't note the noise and said all they could hear was the steering rack hitting the stops. I mentioned that I was worried about the CV joints and they said they would drive it around in figure 8's - again nothing noted. They said they checked the boots and they looked fine. The mechanic that talked to me said something about the pressure in the power steering pump building up when you turn the wheel all the way right or left, possibly making that noise.
THE SOUND: a loud thumping (it resonates through the whole car) it isn't a clicking noise, it is repeated and the rate at which it repeats increases the more the wheel is turned.
WHEN IT HAPPENS:- After the car has been driven about 30 - 40 minutes in 90+ degree heat (the heat may or may not be related)- When turning the steering wheel about 180 degrees or more left or right - it only occurs in those ranges of degrees, so I've only noted it in parking lot type situations or when doing u-turns. i.e. I haven't noticed it at higher speeds.- It seems to get louder the more the car is driven or the hotter it gets (again not sure which one, possibly they are related)
I'm mainly concerned because I'm doing a trip to Detroit, MI from Texas in a few weeks and I don't want to get stranded in the middle of no where. If it is indeed the power steering pump and not the CV joints, I'm just concerned about how loud it gets and how it gets more intense the more I drive. Is there something I can replace to make it go away!? Such as the power steering pump?
I've been experiencing a loud clutch squeal or screech when I first engage the clutch after the car has been sitting for longer periods of time, overnight etc. It goes away after a few shifts and only returns after the car sits for a long period.
I brought it to the VW dealership since I'm still under warranty for a bit. After two visits the have come up with two hypotheses without any evidence. They claim to have not heard it or found anything wrong visually.
1) it could be a rear main seal leak. Or leak from somewhere on the tranny onto the cultch. When I first drive it is burned or wiped away. After putting on the lift they found no evidence of leaks. So hypothesis two:
2) Thy flywheel may be developing a bit of a patina of rust. After the clutch is engaged a few times, the rust is gone and the squeal goes away.
I have a 2014 IS 250 F Sport and in less than 500 miles, the car has this "LOUD" clunking/thumping noise coming from the rear when I pass a bump or uneven road. Brought it back to the dealership but the Lexus specialist/technicians said this noise is the characteristic of the vehicle which of course it cannot be a characteristic of the vehicle. This is not the 1st Lexus vehicle I own.
Also, navigation/radio shuts off while the car is in motion? Dashboard just turns dark (completely blackout) while the car is in motion??
Car was running fine, on the way home from work I noticed it having a loud squeal while accelerating, down shifting.
The car squealed all the way home fine, no power loss really no smoke no anything, I let the car sit for a little, warmed it up and decided to go to drive it around so I could diagnose the problem better.. While doing so now let me describe the sound.. it's like the sound when you go in reverse and back up, that winding sound.. that's what it sounded like.
Back to the story while driving to diagnose the problem more within 5 minutes it made a loud sound like an axle falling out almost on the passenger side of the engine, once I got out I could hear it more and more and looked under the car it looked wet and it looked like oil running down but also could of been something else I'm not sure.. I took a video [URL] .....
The car made it home safe and sound and parked but I don't know if my engine is done. To note I only saw one drip of oil come down while I was underneath of the car but shown in the video you can see where it looks wet was not there before I drove it.
My brakes started to squeal LOUD when I come to a turning stop. Although I don't hear it when I'm stopping going straight, it just makes a high pitch noise when I'm turning into a stop. Last time I went to the dealer, they blamed it on the brake dust... I only drove 300 miles since the last car wash.. it can't it the reason.
