Golf V R32 :: Loud Flutter / Rattle When Change Gear Above 2500 RPM

Jan 17, 2014

Whenever i start my car and begin to drive, i get a loud flutter/Rattle when i change gear above 2500 rpm. It occurs when i give it about 50% or more throttle. is this normal? or does it have anything to do with cold start? I have a tampa mod resonator on the car.

I have a video to show sort of what it sounds like, but this is with giving it about 30% throttle, not 50%. it gets much louder, and sounds a lot worse when i give it more gas. Listen at 1:07.

Golf/GTI VII :: Light Rattle When Decelerating Between 2000 - 2500 Or So

Light rattle/vibration. Probably won't be able to get a video for a while but it seems to only happen when in gear and decelerating between roughly 2-2.5k. Maybe I'll just take to dealer.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Rattle In Engine Bay At 2500 - 3000 RPM

The rattle, 1.8t GLI

-2500-3000 RPM

-Car can be in gear or out of gear, rev rattle is the same.

-Sometimes, I can hear the rattle when the car is off and I slam the door slightly harder than usual.

-My hood release cable may have been the culprit, but I could only zip-tie part of it and the rattle hasn't changed.

One really important clue is that when I have reached around the area between my engine and airbox, the rattle has gone away. So I had a bad coolant flange, so when reaching my phone down there to take pictures, I must have bumped or pressed something because the noise was gone for about a mile.

I recently had my airbox out and a visual inspection didn't show any promise and tapping on random parts didn't recreate the sound.

There is am RPM rattle near my airbox....

Golf VI R :: Loud Noise Between 2500 To 3500 After Installation Of Exhaust - Vibration

Recently had an aftermarket turbo back exhaust system installed. After driving for a short while, I noticed that between 2500 and 3500 RPMs the noise was very loud. Once I hit the highway (in which the engine almost exclusively hangs around those numbers), it was almost unbearable to sit in the car while having that constant droning sound. I have had and been in cars with aftermarket exhaust systems before and never heard anything quite like this. It is pretty tame below 2500 and once you hit 4000, it sounds quite nice and that horrible drone goes away. I really trust the shop that did the work, so I doubt it was faulty install. Could it be a faulty design or maybe just the one that I received?

This exhaust is from a reputable maker and they designed this system specifically for the Golf R. I did have some other mods done at the same time (Coilovers, Engine Mount Insert, Intake and a Tune). I know the insert may cause a little bit of vibration and hence a little bit of extra noise, but nothing like this. While driving on the highway at 3000 RPMs, I cannot even clearly see the cars behind me through the rear windshield as there is so much vibration from all the noise.

Forgot to mention, this TBE is resonated with a CAT, so even more reason for concern. Would expect it to be quiet by comparison to a CAT-less non-resonated system

Golf IV R32 :: Loud Rattle And Oil Leak Near Haldex

Yesterday the car was fine going to work and most of the way home. It was raining pretty hard and I went through a large puddle then right after I started to hear a pretty loud noise. It sounded like it was coming from the middle of the car, more so in between the main seats and was vibrating my seat a little bit. It only happened on mediumish acceleration, during low acceleration it wasn't there at all. Also the car still felt fine. Then when I got off main road I was on a street that wasn't super wet cause of all the trees, the sound stopped.

Here is a link to the sound, you might have to turn up the volume because it is a little low. You can hear it best around 14 sec: [URL].....

So today I jacked it up to see if I could see anything and I found oil all around the haldex stuff. Here are some pics I took of the leak. There is also a bright yellow spot you can see through a hole. Not sure what that means. The haldex service was done, maybe 5-10k miles ago, I'd have to look it up to figure out exact time. In one of the pics you might notice black silicone around one of the plugs, this was because when I did get it serviced for the first time, someone before stripped the bolt so the mechanic put that around it to hold it in. It still looks like it is on there pretty well so I don't think that is the issue.

This isn't a big deal but I noticed this plastic part isn't bolted down, I really don't think the noise would be from this but posted just in case.

Chevrolet - 2500 :: Best Time For The Transmission Fluid Change?

I have a 3/4 ton chevy silverado. It has 106,000 miles. I have not had the transmission fluid changed yet. I've read it is best to change fluid between 60,000 and 100,000 miles and to change this every 30,000 miles. I've also heard that if I have not had this changed prior to 60,000 miles that it is too late to change this now. Is this correct? Recently, I've noticed the transmission slips when shifting geers(this is automatic transmission). What do you recommend.

Golf IV R32 :: Loud Rattle Noise Coming From Inside Center Console

Theres a loud rattling noise coming from somewhere inside the center console, where the shift lever is, that's annoying as hell! Sounds like a metal ball bearing bouncing around against other metal pieces. I put my fingers down there and touched everything I could to try to stop the rattling but I couldn't. I did not remove the foam insulation.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Rattle / Groaning Sound That Comes When RPMs Hit Around 2000 - 2500

2011 Sonata GDS. I previously purchased 19" Gen coupe wheels and never had a problem immediately. Approximately 2 months later of driving with the 19" wheels, when I got onto the highway one day, the car did a slight jerk with acceleration and the acceleration halted for a split second. Ever since that day, anytime I accelerate fast and/or reach highway speeds, the car has a delay when I hit the throttle. The car then has a "rattle" "groaning" sound that comes when the RPMs hit around 2000-2500 rpm. It will go away if I drive slow speeds/slow RPMs or shut the car off for a short amount of time. I have taken my car to the Hyundai dealer 3 times. I've had the adaptive values for the transmission and engine reset and that didn't do anything. I had a mechanic ride with me in the car to make sure they were hearing the sound and the delay in shifting and the mechanic was very shocked and had never even heard a sound like this before.

Golf/GTI VI :: Power Dips For About A Second And Then Comes In When Try To Change Gear Quickly

I have a problem that I can't work out. The problem occurs when I try to change gear quickly (say for a 1/4 mile run). between 2nd and 3rd, as soon as third engages, the power dips for about a second and then comes in. Its not like the revs drop, its just for that second it feels like the turbo is spooling up or something and the car is at best pulling like it has the low range torque of a Honda!

It doesn't happen always, but i would say at least 50% of the time. I have been driving stick for 15 years and have had 3 gti's but none of them have done this. I have tried to change gears at different rpm and experimented with keeping revs up and different release points for the clutch but it doesn't seem to make a difference. my friend also tried it in my gti and he felt the same thing.

Is it a gti thing? maybe the turbo spooling up? I have noticed it since stock clutch and apr stage 1, I honestly thought the clutch would fix it but it hasn't. I have a mk6 gti 2012, apr stage 2 (carbonio intake) with dxd stage 2 daily clutch, short shifter and BB downpipe. Working towards k04 but not there yet!

Golf/GTI VI :: Flutter After Installing New DV

I installed the pierburg revised DV yesterday because my old DV was shot, squealing and leaking boost. After installing it I noticed that when i'm under around 15 psi and i let it build up that I get this flutter I didnt have before. I assume its the wastegate but I haven't heard it prior to installing the new DV so my fear is that its the valve no circulating and its putting the unused psi back through the turbo (not good).

Golf IV R32 :: Heat Shield Rattle Noise In 4th Gear

I am very mechanically inclined and up until now I can usually hear a noise and know exactly what the problem is, given enough time to listen..

The best I can describe the noise I am hearing, sounds like a cross between heat shield rattle or a syncro somehow stretched out and is loosely spinning around once in gear.. Hard to explain, but all gears shift perfectly..clutch was replaced at 102K and I am currently at 130K. Also I might be crazy but it sounds like I am starting to hear the noise in 3rd as well. I would post a sound clip, but its so faint it doesn't show up on my iphone..

The reason I am throwing it out there, is because half of the seriously trusted mechanics I know say it sounds like a bearing in the tranny going out, the other half, (3 of 6) can't even hear what I am talking about but its there.

Golf IV R32 :: Hard Shifting To 6th Gear - Tinny Rattle At Startup

Third owner with about 81k, sometimes when I go to shift into sixth it seems like there is something stopping me about half way into normal position. Normally I have to go back to neutral and then try again. I don't have this issue with the other gears.

second question, I've noticed under deceleration mostly or going slow over bumps that I can hear a tin style rattle. Now the last couple days when I start the car with or without AC running there is a constant rattle making me think that whatever was rattling over bumps is about to make a run for it when I hit a big bump or something.

Golf IV R32 :: Rattle Metal Sound When Car Is Cold Starting Out In 1st Gear

I have the eip street series catback- that is it for exhaust mods.

Every time (when car is cold) I start out in 1st, just after I release the clutch (1100 rpms or so) I hear a slight metal rattling noise for a second or two. It sounds as if it is coming from near the cats. And the noise disappears after the car warms up.

What it could be? Is there a heat shield above the cats that might rattle?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Turbo Flutter Over 20 Pounds Of Boost

I have an 03 GTI 1.8t with the stock K03s turbo and i used to boost to 25 pounds. Had to put a new motor in and now i when i boost above 20 pounds i get turbo flutter and loose boost. I can boost anywhere up to 20 pounds and the turbo doesn't flutter at all.

I had a spring on my waste gate which i have taken off and it changed nothing. I tried a different diverter valve and it didn't change anything. I unplugged the MAF to see if the N75 or the there was a boost leak and extra air wasn't being monitored but still changed nothing. It has nothing to do with my RPM range just when i boost over 20 pounds. I am planning on doing a leak down test to make sure there isnt a boost leak....

Kia - Rio :: 2004 Will Not Exceed 2500 RPM In Any Gear

Car is a 2004 Kia Rio Cinco with 82,000 miles, 5 speed with self-adjusting clutch. My car will not exceed 2500 RPM in any gear. In first (or any other gear) gear I can drive up to 2500 RPM and then must shift into 2nd (or the next gear) if I want to go faster, if RPM goes above 2500 the car stops accelerating and the RPM drops to 2000 at which time the car starts to accelerate again. The engine is running at a very high rate when I come to a stop as if the idle is set too high. The car does not lose electrical power when this happens. I have driven the car more than an hour in 5th gear going 45 to 50 mph keeping the RPMs between 2000 & 2500. I can get around town with easily as long as I am staying in the 2000 to 2500 RPM range. This problem started late Saturday night when I was in Phoenix and had to get to the airport to pick up my daughter and then get back home to Prescott, AZ. Since the dealers were all closed on Sunday I just went home at 45-50 miles an hour all the way back to Prescott. It was a long drive but we enjoyed ourselves. The car ran fine except for the RPM problem.

Golf/GTI VII :: Compression Surge / Turbo Flutter At Low RPM On High Gears

So I'm wondering in a nutshell; in layman's terms... what is compression surge and turbo flutter if you had to summarize it in a few sentences. I was told that its worse with a tune, but even our stock cars have it? I'm not very tech savvy so on the articles I found and read it's said to be bad and basically happening at low RPM on high gears?

Golf/GTI VI :: Shifting From 1st To 2nd Gear Is Really Loud When Cold?

I know it will get a little notchy when its cold out, but shifting from 1st to 2nd is really notchy, and the shift box is pretty loud on that shift. I don't think its a trans issue, the noise seems like its only in the shift box. and goes away after 5-10 minutes or so, but it seems a bit excessive, especially for a new car. Car has 3500 miles on it, and has been doing this pretty much the whole time on cold starts.
