Golf V R32 :: Car Shuts Off - When Restart RPMs Bouncing At Idle

I got a mkv R32 with 57k miles (DSG transmission) on it and the past few weeks ive been having some crazy issues. My car shuts off once in awhile when I come to a stop in traffic or at red lights. Last night it happen again I came to a red light and the car shut off, when I restarted it my idle was bouncing all over the place all the way up to 2500rpm and down to 1300rpm. Also, in addition to the idle every time i started pressing the gas the car would KICK like something was wrong with the transmission and a CEL came on. I ran the codes and it said MAF was at fault and I have had a MAF code again maybe a month ago.

I am thinking of replacing the MAF to see if it fixes the problem and I was wondering if it is a straight hardware swap or will i need to do some programming with a vag com?

Golf V R32 :: Car Bouncing From 500 To 600 RPMs Consistently At Idle

A few days ago I changed my oil and decided to throw in a can of sea foam with a fresh tank of gas. I live literally 100ft from a gas station so I poured the bottle of sea foam in my tank while on empty and then immediately drove over and filled up my car. Right after that my car was bouncing from 500-600 rpms consistently at idle...I gathered it did not mix well and was running mainly on the sea foam. After a day or so of really driving the car that issue had stopped and it was idling/driving normal.

Fast forward a few days to today and all of a sudden my CEL comes on. Also, when I come to a stop after a long drive my car decides to jump up to a 1200rpm idle. I let it sit there for a good 2-3 minutes and it will not come down. I've noticed before that if I blip the throttle a tiny bit it will get it to drop to its normal idle, but that is not working for this. Do you think all of this originates from running that sea foam or could it be a completely different issue? I just turned 62k miles and haven't had a single problem before this. It wont be until later this week when I can plug it in and check to see what codes it is throwing..

Subaru - SVX :: Rough Idle / RPMs Drop Very Low And Engine Shuts Off

1997 Subaru SVX (Alcyone) LSi, 3.3L H6 engine.

My SVX was driven from Denver to Las Vegas, NV and it developed an odd habit where the RPMs would start to oscillate while on cruise control. I had to disengage the cruise control to get the oscillations to stop. Three days later I was driving the SVX to work and the RPMs started oscillating at idle and the car started running rough and it died.

These things have all been replaced with OEM grade parts: Spark plugs, electric fuel pump & strainer & fuel filter, Mass Air Flow sensor, new air filter and fuses.

The car starts up fine but after a few seconds the RPMs begin to oscillate. Then the car tries to recover, the idle becomes rough, and the the RPMs drop very low and the engine shuts off.

Golf/GTI VII :: Limp Mode At Around 3200 RPMs / Shuts Off At Lights / Hardly Starts Few Hours After Tune

I've had the car for almost 5k miles, no issues. Only performance part on the car is a USP 3" catless down pipe with an O2 spacer. Car performed fine with it. Today I got an APR stage 1 93 octane tune. A few hours into the tune on my way home from work, I went to change lanes and the car hit some type of a wall with the RPMs. At around 3200 RPMs, the car felt like it went into limp mode. Did not let me pass 3200 RPMs. I got off the highway and had to keep the RPMs up because the car died at lights. Pulled into my driveway, plugged in my VCDS and there are absolutely no codes coming up. Nothing. But starting the car the car cranks and I have to give it gas for it I barely start.

Golf/GTI VII :: Rough Idle And Shuts Down Sometimes

Symptoms:

- rough start-up, car shuts down

- backfire when releasing after WOT

- OBD-II codes (see below)

Okay so these issues started to appear only 1 day after I got tuned...

Problem History:

Day 1:

- car started mildly rough

- I got an EPC light on my dash 2 minutes after moving and for 2 seconds the car sounded like an STI (the sound you hear with a misfire)

- I turned it off and on, EPC gone car started up normally

- took it straight to dealer, they checked coils and plugs and said that it's a tune issue.

- went to take it back from the dealer and that was the first time the car shutdown immediately after start-up. it started at second attempt with a quite long ignition sound and the STI-like sound briefly once again.

Day 2:

- I went to my friend and we pulled the codes from OBD-II and only got the P0420 00 [175] - Efficiency Below Threshold code only (as the dealer probably erased any other code related to my EPC light)

- we deleted the code and drove around

- every time we turn the car off and on. The car starts up mildly rough and the code comes back up

Every 2 days or so:

- the car would require 2 attempts to start but no EPC light coming up.

Day 4:

- I had a night of possibly 6 WOTs to test the cars performance, and it was performing great. didn't feel any loss in power or anything. (was friendly racing my friends modded 135i with very impressive outcomes)

- car backfires after i release the gas pedal at WOT (not with every WOT but 2 out of 6 runs it backfired)

- After the last WOT i got the EPC light. turned the car off and let her relax for 5 minutes.

- car took 2 attempts to startup. with severe roughness and shakes (as if the car is cammed V8 engine) for 5 seconds and then back to normal.

Now since the EPC light came back on i wanted to check if there is another code from the OBD-II. I was hoping that the issue will only be the P0420 00 [175] - Efficiency Below Threshold code but my fears were true and i got another very annoying code

This is last nights code pull

2 Faults Found:

14914 - Boost Pressure Regulation

P0299 00 [096] - Control Range Not Reached

Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear

[Code] .....

Day 7:

- The car had the sever start-up roughness again

As I'm trying to find a solution for my problem here are the steps i took/will take:

- took it to the dealer for nothing.

- ordered an O2 sensor extender for the P0420 00 [175] - Efficiency Below Threshold code and i hope it's somewhat related to the start-up issue. it will arrive today or tomorrow.

- once the extender is here, I'll take it to an exhaust shop to install the extender and check for any DP/Exhaust leaks

- I will take it to a mechanic to check any leaks in all intake/air connectors and piping, any leaks in DV (I have forge recirculating DV), Boost pressure sensors (the piggy back was connected to them and one might be loose when we removed it), spark plugs and coils.

When I cut off the engine by mistake (shift slip ie ) the restart comes around but only after about 5 to 15 minutes . The last time this happened the car was at an intersection and this situation is getting dangeous.Why is the restart taking so long ?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Car Idle For About A Half Hour And Shuts Off

I have narrowed down my starting issue to a faulty relay(409). When I pulled the relay and cleaned the contacts and reinstalled the pump primed and the car started. Car will idle for about a 1/2 hour and out of the blue it shuts off. If I try to restart, 9 times out of 10 it does not start. If i tap the relay, it starts right up. If the car is running and I tap on the relay the car stutters and if I tap it again it shuts off.

Suburban :: 2002 - Car Shuts Off While Driving, Takes Time To Restart

As of yesterday evening my 2002 Chevrolet Suburban 1500, shuts off while im driving. Takes about two to five minutes to get it going again (has shut off a couple times) Starts up fine idles great, problems start about a mile or two of being driven.

my daughter has a 91 volvo 240 with a 4cyl and auto. roughly 100000 miles. it starts and runs fine but after driving it, if it is shut off for less than 30 min, then she tries to start it again, it stalls immediately. she can keep her foot on the gas slightly and drive it the distance of a parking lot, the car will run fine and not stall. i was curious if a tune up would fix this or if there is a smaller fix such as a sensor.

My 1990 Toyota Corolla which I hate to retire has only 64,000 miles on it. Starts and runs but while I am driving the dash lights up and the engine shuts off and won't restart. He thinks it is the NEC (?) switch but he said he is not really sure. Spending all that money and then finding out it is not fixed would not be worth it. Passat (B6) :: High And Bouncing Idle In Neutral

Came to a stop at a loooooooong light the other afternoon. I popped the AT into neutral, and the engine idle rose to around 2000 RPM, dropped to about 1500, then started cycling in that range. CEL also showed up.

Now, whenever the transmission is in either P or N, if I blip the throttle to bring the RPMs into that range (1500-2000), it stays in that range and cycles up to 2000, drops to 1500, wash, rinse, repeat. Blipping the throttle above 2000 does not change this behavior... as soon as the RPMs drop back to 1500, zoom it goes, right back to 2000.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Rough Idle Between 600 - 800 RPMs

My golf 2.0 vw isn't doing so good right now. It has 227000 miles on it. It has been driving great, and then last week it started to idle rough. It idles between 600-800 rpms. it fluctuates between 600-800 rpms. It had the check engine light on before this happened i was told by my brother that it was an 02 sensor. I had it checked for what is causing the engine light to come on today at o Rileys, and it came up with 11 codes. Some of the codes where 02 sensors, it was running to rich, needed a new computer, evaps system, fuel pump, fuses, coil pack, spark plugs, It shakes when you sit in it when it is idling like not a bad shake but a small one you cal feel, l'm including a video of it running.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: EPC Light Has Come On - Car Will Idle At 1200 RPMs Up From 800

Recently I believe i got a tank of bad gas. Was having problems starting. Finished it off filled up used injector cleaner and dry gas to clean it out a bit more. Now as I was driving the car would basically stall out but kick back in as I was driving and the EPC light would come on. I've been reading up and most answers are a bad coil pack. I pulled them all out and checked them they all look pretty good. No codes are popping up for it a coil pack. Unless I need a specific VW model computer to check. I'm gonna check the volts on the coil packs today to see as well.

The EPC light does go off after the car sits a while. It comes back after a few miles driving. After the EPC light comes on my car will idle at 1200 RPMs up from 800 when its normal.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Rough Idle - Smoothes Out Only At About 600 RPMs

The problems seems to be getting progressively worse, it has a rough idle and when it smooths out is only at about 600 rpms and still sounds strange. Also, I am running extremely rich, blows flames quite often and in OCMD I went 100 miles on a half tank. Car is stage 1 unitonic with sai and evap deleted. I changed the maf and that didn't change anything. I was searching for vacuum leaks yesterday and noticed that one of the vacuum caps I have on the bottom of the intake manifold was dried out so I took it off so i could put my finger over it and see if it ran better, when the cap was off it ran great but when I put my finger over it it would go back to an awful idle Now when I come to a stop it will sometimes drop the rpm so low that it shuts off, when I am driving you can't tell a difference.

Golf V R32 :: No Idle / RPMs Surging And Hesitation When Taking Off

Got a problem with my R. 134k miles. About 4 months ago I had similar problems and was told it was a bad MAF. Of course wasn't covered by my warranty, so I decided to just give it a good cleaning and car ran fine up till now. Just started doing the same thing today. Doesn't want to idle, taking off is really hesitant then it just goes. Trans seems like it is struggling to find the correct gear sometimes when coming to a stop or taking off, sometimes jerks hard, maybe throttle position sensor, or idle control? Once you are moving it drives fine, only very low speeds and idling are the problem. Trying to avoid going to the dealership. What this could be? MAF need cleaned again or just replaced?

1.8T Car only has 73k on it.? When I am sitting at a stop I can hear a vibration sound coming from the engine bay. It goes away as soon as RPMs hit about 2000. My best guess is old, worn out engine mounts.

Golf/GTI VI :: 2010 2.5L - At Idle It Will Go Up And Down Between 1100 And 1500 RPMs

So my car started doing some weird things. at idle and only at idle it will go up and down between 1100 and 1500 rpm. No throttle input no clutch input or brake input. I do have a CEL on but when I read the code it gives me 01314 on brake electronics setting. I'm using a vchecker pro. I go into all the engine brake airbag and trans menus and do clear fault codes and this fixes it but id like to know what the actual problem is.

Have a 2001 wolfs-burg 1.8t, has about 220k miles on it, i know, its a lot. Right now, the check engine light has been on for a few months and the idle is very weird. It goes up and down in neutral from 800-1300 rpms and sometimes i smell gas. Also the triangle with an '!' and circle around it yellow light comes on some times now. I heard it could be MAF or a vacuum leak. A mechanic is going to check it out soon...

Passat (B6) :: Rpms Just Fall Than Car Shuts Down

It showed up when the car wouldnt start. It would start but the rpms would just fall then shuts down. And now I have been having issues with the car not starting. At times it would start on the first try and others i have literally tried over 10 times and it wouldnt start... eventually it always starts but i dont want to get to the point where i get stranded.
