Every time the car is parked slightly elevated or a little cold when i open the door to get in, i hear this crazy whine noise come from the back, it keeps going even after i have started it.

When I park it with the front end elevated even just slightly higher than the rear the fuel system loses pressure and I have to pump it up using the manual pump under the hood. This usually happens after 15 - 20 minutes of park time. When it is parked flat it usually will last hours or more, and if I park it with the rear elevated over the front then it doesn't seem to have a time frame. in other words it does not lose pressure at all.
If the fuel pump in the right rear of the car is making an audible noise, does that mean it is the incorrect fuel pump, or is that normal?

View 5 RepliesI just bought my first .:R32. Having a few minor issues:
1. When I open the door in the morning, the fuel pump primes the system and makes a high pitched sound (kind of like RFI). It's there when I have the car on also. So do you think I should buy a new pump and take it with me just in case?
2. This was happening before I bought the car. When I first move either forwards or backwards there is a clicking sound coming from the right front of the car. After I get moving, it goes away.
3. Just replaced the front right coilover assembly and there is a clunking noise coming from the strut (I think). What it could be? Maybe strut top bushing? Or ball joint making weird noises?
Was driving normal and my 2004 r32 died. It felt just like it ran out of gas. Fuel pump was not making any noise. I replaced fuel pump relay and now i can here the fuel pump making noise. Pulled the fuel pump line off and fuel is coming out the line. So now i checked for spark and have none. I have 12 volts at the coils. I ohmed out the crank sensor and have .777 k ohms. I also checked codes with generic snap-on scanner and found no codes.
View 2 RepliesThis van has had a couple of fuel pumps, no surprise there, and i need to look through my paperwork and find out how many miles the current one has on it, but it has the STRANGEST habit I've ever had on any vehicle. Starts fine, runs fine, no fuel pump noise when van is running, and when you turn it off, the fuel pump creeks on and off for several minutes.
I mean a strange creaking noise almost like a shorted electrical device or a vehicle's brakes when you park it on a hill and the breaks creak as it settles into place. I'm probably doing a lousy job of describing this but i don't know how else to describe it!
ALSO, if you lay under the van and wait til it stops creaking, you can tap the bottom of the tank and it will creak for a few more seconds. You can tap repeatedly and make it creak more. Is it about to explode? Can i trust it on a road trip?
R's at the dealer today for a faulty fuel float sensor, and they just called to let me know my vehicle has the wrong fuel pump in it. Seems mine has the pump for the Golf/Rabbit with the 4 cylinder engine and they need to keep the car until the part is in.
View 16 RepliesI recently had my fuel pump replaced in my 2005 GTI ... twice. Both times, the fuel gauge no longer shows a full tank, and doesn't show empty tank correctly. Is there some way to reset the gauge? Is the pump somehow tied to the gauge, or did the mechanics mess the float up when they changed the pump? Sadly I had it repaired somewhere other then the dealer.

The car is 3 years old and it was serviced just two weeks ago. I am not sure about what may cause this weird noise.
After about a 40 minute drive I notice this noise from the cabin when I parked. I popped the hood and took a short video. What this is? It's a Golf SE 1.8T. (Video)
View 16 RepliesI have a 2001 F250 HD gas engine. I have had this truck since 2010. I drive it only occasionally and had not driven it in a few weeks so decided to drive it the other day. I drove about 30 minutes with about half of that on the interstate. It was a fairly hot day mid 80s and I had the AC running. I parked it at a very slight forward downhill position. When I came out after 45 minutes, I saw a puddle of antifreeze in front of the vehicle. When I looked underneath the truck it was primarily dripping from the oil filter canister but also from a couple of other places. I was down about 4 inches in the reservoir. My small truck camper is on the vehicle and I had my coolant container in there.
I topped it off and traveled about 10 minutes on surface streets to my next stop.After about two hours there I came out to the truck to leave and there was not a drop. I then drove 25 minutes home with a little on the interstate running the AC and when I got home not a drop. I got up underneath it and looked all around and couldn't really see an obvious source. My neighbor is a mechanic of sorts and I asked him about it. He had a couple of theories but one involved the heater. He said to crank it up, let it warm up, and turn the heat on and see if I smelled anti-freeze. I did that and there was not a smell at all. He also said something about a cold leak.
Recently I bought a aem fuel pump only to find out it was for a vr6... go figure. so i said no big deal took it off and put my old one back on. Everything worked fine before now but now that i have put the old fuel pump back in i am not getting any fuel at all.
View 6 RepliesHowever, my fuel pump seems to be having a small issue intermittently. So I was wondering if you can upgrade the fuel pump without upgrading anything else? Is that acceptable or would it mess things up? I plan on getting the DTM kit in the future.
View 3 RepliesI have a mk7 with 12k miles on it (edit: Manual). I noticed this noise periodically and it is hard to reproduce. I haven't been to the dealer yet because we all know how that intermittent noise thing goes with them.
Symptoms: Accelerating (usually 2nd or 3rd) low rpms. If I am going slightly up hill it will make a sound like a metal ball bearing inside of an Altoids can. "Tack Tack Tack.' It doesn't happen all the time and sometimes the volume varies. I'd say it has happened to me 10 times in the last 2 months. It appears to be boost related as it is building.
I need to test the stock fuel pump. Best way of doing so?
View 8 RepliesMy R32's Fuel Pump Fuse keeps blowing. This started after driving my car in a bad rainstorm. I think water may have gotten in the door which could be causing the short, but I am not sure. This car has two fuel pumps as it's been modified. I know for a fact the main fuel pump works as it did prime after replacing the fuse (then letting the car sit over night then opening the door). Right after the fuel pump primed though, the fuse blew. I decided to replace the fuse and start the car. The car started and ran for maybe a second or two before the fuse blew. I took a look at this thread in regards to the fuel pump not working as I thought the fuel pump was dead till today. I was wondering what are the possible problems that could be causing the fuse to blow? Could it be the relay? Could it be the switch in the door shorting? Also, where would I find the relay? I know it's under the dash, but is it under the panel on the passenger side or driver side?
View 1 RepliesOk a week ago i noticed a popping noise when i would turn my steering wheel while the car was parked. It sounded and felt like it was coming from the drivers side.
Now a week later i have a weird constant whirring/growling noise coming from the drivers side wheel area. Which only stops when I stop completely or take a right hand turn.
So I think its a wheel bearing due to the fact it stops when I turn right, but thats why im here im not totally sure.
I have been getting some noise from the fuel pump when the car is at idle. I am sure the noise is there when the car is moving but the road noise is cancelling it out. The noise is very subtle but a bit annoying. Do you hear your fuel pump at idle? I will take it in for a replacement.
