With AFS checked in settings, no codes, no error messages. The headlights are not turning with steering.
Is it possible to hard code them off since I bought the car used.
I switch headlights on, start the car, they do the dance and self level, they seem to work fine otherwise.
So I just picked up an R32 and it has a euro switch and euro projector headlights but I've noticed that my parking lights, city lights, and front fogs are all inoperative. Though the turn signals do work. I tried doing a quick search but wasn't really able to come up with anything as to a reason why.
View 7 RepliesI just picked up my new 2010 Golf (2-door manual, gas) a couple of weeks ago. I'm planning to take it back to the dealer for the first checkup soon. I'm having a minor issue with the car and am wondering if others have experienced this or if I have something set improperly. I've gone through all of the adjustments available through the trip computer menus to no avail.
Basically, the courtesy lights for the interior of the car don't come on when the door is opened. The sensor on the door apparently works as the "door ajar" signal comes on the instrument panel when the door is open.
The switch on the headliner works to turn the lights off (left), stay on (right), but in the center position, which according to the owner's manual is supposed to be the "door open" position, the lights do not come on.
I also hate the horn that beeps when I lock the car. I often come home from work after my kids are asleep and I try not to make noise. There doesn't appear to be a setting for this in the owner settings menu through the trip computer. Can the dealer turn this off for me?
Interesting, today VW sent me an email with a link to some "welcome" videos with how-to information about features on the car. On the remote locking video it just showed and described the turn signals flashing when locking, but no horn.
Otherwise, I'm enjoying the car a great deal. It drives wonderfully and is very quiet on the freeway. I just love the new seats on the 2010 base Golf as well. They remind me a lot of the Recaros on my old Jetta 16v.

View 4 RepliesMy steering wheel controls on the lower half quit working last year , then the cruise control quit intermittently last month , then the air bag light starts appearing last week. Deciding this means a failed clock spring / spiral cable , I took apart my spiral cable housing, and found two obvious breaks in the electrical wiring . I first bought a salvage unit on Ebay, to find it arrived bound, didn't turn freely (and no returns from seller). I then bought one from the dealer and installed it last week and very happily have all symptoms fixed!
The replacement was easier than I expected, the steering wheel was not actually very tight, I doubt I needed the steering wheel puller I 'borrowed' from the parts store , could have just loosed the main nut, wiggled and tugged it loose. Just a note be sure to remove 12 volt power from the car, and mark the steering wheel center shaft to the steering wheel for reinstall .
As a rural mail carrier I deliver mail out of my prius with the window down, traveling about 5 hours a day on dusty ,sand roads in Kansas. The car interior gets dusty and this caused the failure of the spiral cable.
Pic's of the old failed unit, the new one comes with some lubricant, white perhaps lithium grease for the ribbons/ wheels, mine had dryed up patches of grease, some I cleaned off the ribbons before the pictures where taken. I'll check the new one in a year, may regrease , cleaning it out to try to prevent this from happening again. I did add some plastic under the airbag to improvise a dust shield for the new spiral cable. Car has 197k bought it with 106k , now has around 60 k from driving on the route.
Last night I was heading home from a two day race and found that my turn signals wasn't working. the running lights are working and obviously i could feel the brakes working.
well i hooked up some jumpers to a 12v battery and the 7 pin and the lights work. to make 100% sure it works i hooked it up to my neighbors Tacoma. it all worked. well..........
On my last f150 when it was new this happened to me too. it ended up being the turn signal fuse on my truck.
I hooked right back to my truck again and just made sure my plug was all the way in and still nothing so i know its my truck side.
Now my last f150 owners manual had a section to where it told you what fuse is what and where. well i don't even see the f250 fuse box is and don't know which one it is to see if its blown.
My trailers lights aren't working at all- so frustrated right now!! I've checked all the fuses and those are good, I've got no power back to the 7 pin connector...
View 9 RepliesI have a buddy with a 1999 F250 W/7.3 TD. His property is accessed through a couple miles of hard terrain, so this may wind up being a loose ground or something that pulled loose.Anyway, the truck just all the sudden won't accelerate. It'll crank & idle all day long, but when you hit the gas.....nothing happens. I realize the diesel doesn't have an accelerator cable, as it is drive by wire. First thought was the APP sensor(accelerator), but most of the dash indicator, O/D, etc. lights are inop too.

View 12 RepliesAt low speeds, turning the steering wheel I hear a creaking sound similar to rubber on rubber. Sounds like skateboard trucks bushings how they creak. It's starting to get louder and is annoying. No damage to car just started one day and keeps going. Have to bring it to the dealer but the only good vw place around is an hour and a half away.

View 6 RepliesI know this can bring many speculations. I've recently install new 034 strut mounts and new bearings. Stiffer mounts and the new bearings took care of the "compression" noise going over bumps. The bearings were shot.
Just returned from a trip, driving the R now I've notice a slight creaking noise while making left or right full turns at slow speed. I haven't noticed it at high speed yet or maybe its because our cars are pretty loud with an aftermarket exhaust but i don't suspect there's noise going straight.
I tried to see if there's anything out of the ordinary. I noticed that the driver side spring moves slight while the steering wheel is turned either left or right. I suspect that this slight movement is causing the spring to rub on a rubber component of the wheel bearing thus causing the noise.
I'm looking at an R32 with 58k miles. When I turn the wheel side to side when the car is stopped, I hear a creak from the suspension. What is making the noise and how expensive is it to fix?

Go to [09] Central Electronics
Go to Security Access and enter 31347
Go to adaptation channels and set the following (they're quite far down the list):
"Leuchte2SL VLB10-Lichtfunktion G 2" to Blinken links active (besides Phasen)
"Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimmwert GH 2" to 35
"Leuchte2SL VLB10-Dimming Direction GH 2" to minimize
"Leuchte3SL VRB21-Lichtfunktion G 3" to Blinken rechts aktiv (beide Phasen)
"Leuchte3SL VRB21-Dimmwert GH 3" to 35
"Leuchte3SL VRB21-Dimming Direction GH 3" to minimize
Now my right front turn signal is inop. Checked voltage and swapped bulbs left to right. the bulb is good. No sure what I did. Could I have disabled the blinker somehow? Where is the channel for the right front blinker?
Recently the dashboard lights for my .:R have been taking a few minutes to turn on after I turn on my headlights and the car has been running for a bit. What could cause this, my headlights turn on fine, its just the interior lights for the dash, radio and climatronic that don't turn on immediately, they end up turning on after a few minutes but it varies every single time.
View 7 RepliesI was driving home the other day when i heard a groaning when turning. i stopped to check the power steering fluid at O'PepZone and it was really low. i bought some fluid poured it in while the car was running. it foamed a bit from all the air but then the PSF started emptying out of the reservoir underneath the car.
By the time i got home it was groaning and basically empty of PSF again. when i crawled under the car, i saw a lot of fluid on the passenger (right ) side of the car by the subframe and a little bit by the driver (left) side of the car. the leaks seem to be from the ends of the rack and pinion. no detectable leaks by the hose/hard line connections.
Other than the leak(s), the steering has felt very good. no play to speak of and no weird sounds either.
This makes me wonder if i somehow damaged the seals when i installed my PSS9 coilovers....
I just had an alignment done and the steering wheel is turned counter clockwise a little. I know very little about alignment. I know the terminology and what it means and i heard the the rear camber and toe isn't adjustable on mk4s. I did lower my car,only about one inch though.

So when turning my steering wheel i get this croaking noise. At stand still and while driving. Its annoying the heck out of me. You can hear it in the car and outside. What it could be? Power steering fluid level is normal.
View 11 Replies2K 1.8T Golf. Lowered on Koni struts and neuspeed street (red) springs last year. Rear axel bushing done soon after. Replaced front and rear strut mounts and bearings at the time of struts and springs. Rack died on me in the fall so I had it replaced along with newer control arms and upgraded bushings. Aligned right after the rack was installed and ran like an arrow until last weekend. Now it pull to right, more as I speed up. I also noticed that when I turn left, the steering is much stiffer then steering left (full turns and mild turns).
PS fluid is still full. My ball joints are about 3 years old so I'm leaning towards that direction. Especially after this past winter and the never ending pot holes in Detroit. The shop used moogs and were regularly greased as they had zerk fittings. I think I hear some clunking upfront but I'm unclear as my old GHL Muffler weld finally gave out and is having by a hockey lace and it is rattling every time I accelerate or hit a bump. I'm going to jack it up this weekend to do some exhaust work so I'll give it a good once over and shake down what I can.
Front sway bar bushings causing "clicking" noise while turning the steering wheel? Usually happens when I'm moving into or out of a parking spot and while I'm turning my steering wheel. I got the driver side, I believe, lower control arm replaced and after that i started getting a faint clicking noise when I'm turning the steering wheel.
The dealer, after multiple visits, discovered it's the front sway bar bushing causing the noise. They said it's really not worth the cost, since it's isn't a safety issue and the whole sway bar needs to be replace since you can't buy bushings alone. I want to get rid of the noise regardless of safety or not.
My 03 Golf ac is not working and i am looking for a wiring diagram/ troubleshooting chart. the cooling fans turn on low and I hear the engine surging like the compressor is trying to cycle but it is not.. When I jump the low pressure switch the fans go to high and no power to the compressor. I get a flash of power to the compressor but just a blip every ten seconds. I am trying to check continuity of the ac clutch but having a difficult time getting in there hot. I just bought the car and fixed light body damage on the right front but it was not even bad enough to hurt the washer bottle. Hard to believe the hit caused damage to the ac? AC seems to be charged with about 100 psi static pressure. Why are diagrams so hard to find?
