I have recently acquired a rising blue golf R. Upon delivery (long story, but I received the vehicle 1000 miles from the dealership) I noticed that the right rear disc is showing rust just on the inside portion of the rotor. It seems that the breaks are not contacting evenly on this side.
View 6 RepliesJust installed the Vaistech iVic unit yesterday and everything seemed to function fine, but noticed once I started driving today that my Navigation unit was off. It still operated and tracked movement OK, only the maps were about 10 minutes away from where I was actually located.
I've turned off the car several times since, and also took out the Navigation disc and re-installed but it keeps putting me in the same wrong place, This all happens in the normal standard Lexus modes.
On washing my car recently, during wipe down I discover my solar roof is showing signs of rust inside the glass panels? I don't do anything special to my prius' roof top except for cleaning since its above my height.... anyways should I be concern about this?. 2010 Prius IV ...
View 19 RepliesInserted updated nav disc as directed in nav disc slot, closed door. Now the disc is stuck in the scan-disc mode and the load/eject button doesn't work on it. Wondering if there is a way to force eject the disc or other way to unstick it. You can hear the disc 'whirring' briefly as if it is trying to eject, but is stuck. It does this over and over. That's the only sound; none of the other buttons are responsive.

View 1 RepliesI have Elantra GT 2006 with traction control and ABS, disk brakes. The rear right wheel is overheating. Checked if sliding pins are moving. They were fine. With working engine if brake pedal is pressed wheel does not move, pedal is released and wheel can rotate. Three days ago I replaced rear right caliper together with the caliper hose. It did not work. After driving in city for 15-20 minutes right rear wheel will be hot to the point that you cannot hold your hand (left rear and front ones are barely worm). I tried to remove the fuses for ABS and it did not work.
View 6 RepliesI bought my accent in 2006 and it came with rear drum brakes and I want to know if it is possible to switch to rear disc brakes. I know that newer accents have all disc brakes so maybe it wont be that hard, but what do I need? I dont have abs. I asked the dealer like a year ago and they told me they wont do it. I have seen this conversion before in other cars that did not have rear disc brakes in newer versions either.

View 14 RepliesI got a 2002 f150, right now it has a 9.75 with disc brakes. But it exploded. I can only find a 9.75 with drums in the wrecking yard. Can I just swap my disc brakes on to the axle with drums?
View 1 RepliesI've had this "rattle" when going over uneven roads for about the past few months and I think I narrowed it down to the rear calipers. They are both tight, but it seems as though the "floating" ability of the caliper is loose.....does that make any sense? I mean you can grab the caliper and it'll make a rattling noise, but the bolts are tight..

If the rear inside panel where jack is located is removed, it is from the rear inside corner behind the jack.
I washed and wax my wife's 2011 RX yesterday and I spotted rust around the edge of the taillight. It looks like part of the blister already break open and the other part just start forming. The car is Canadian build in Matador red mica color. Never been in any accident and never had any paintwork. I will take it in to Lexus dealer today for my SA to take an initial look. Hatch door rust issue on 3rd gen RX ??? I'm in shock that 4 years old car started to develop rust.
View 14 RepliesRust proofing the rear wheel well: I was trying to rust proof/coat the rear wheel well and surrounding area to make sure i get the bolts under it. Back of the car is where most of the salt sits as the undercurrents with wind tend to drive the salt deep in the quarter panels and around tank area. I wanted to confirm if these cars still have the wheel well bolt securing the bumper to the quarter panel with a rust prone steel bolt.
When weather gets better i'll take to get sprayed somewhere. But for now i wanted to leave something on it of a coat after a good cleaning. Hate dam salt or whatever they are using these days.
I also noticed that the SE's wheel well internal sheathing was much stronger looking, solid than what's on my LE - a felt type material. Besides the wheel well rim on SE has a band of silicone type substance overlaid on it. Right?
When I look into the brakes on the two rear tires, I see a good bit of rust on the discs. Should I be concerned?
View 2 RepliesI just noticed today that the piece that connects the rear wiper to the window is rusting. It is only 1.5 years old, so seems odd to be rusting already. I'll be taking it in for an oil change soon, so will get it looked at and see what they say.
View 18 RepliesI recently found rust on the rear axle beam, on both sides near the strut/shock absorber bolts. They are actually bubbling and the original black paints are peeling off. I brought it in to a dealer for inspection today, but they said it's only surface rust. Does this look like it?
I owned the car for 18 months but it did not look like this 6 months ago.
A buddy of mine ripped the hitch off his excursion due to rust. Anything can be fixed. I will try to get a picture of it.

I know it will only spread but since it's on the rear quaterpanel, it's not easily replaceable unless I cut the metal or sand it down and repaint it. Should I go to the dealer and see what they say?

It's very ugly, It has very heavy surface rust, the car is 2011, I don't remember seeing this much damaged when I purchased the car last winter. I took it to the dealership, they said they cant change it because it is purely aesthetic and the components still work.
I'm researching rust proofing, but that seems more like a preventative action than a remedy, what can I do, it really annoys me every time I look at it. I don't know why Hyundai chose such poor material inside the wheels that rusts so easily. I have compared it to other Sonatas I see on the street, mine is a lot worse.
