Have a rust spot coming thru rear, that I am presuming is due to condensate from rear a/c.
If the rear inside panel where jack is located is removed, it is from the rear inside corner behind the jack.
Is there any way to repair rust spots so the rust will not return aside from putting new metal on it? I've used Bondo before but it rusts again after a while.
View 3 RepliesI own a 2011 lariat with 500 miles. We have had several days of rain and I am getting alot of rust spots on my driveway always below and inside the right front tire. None in the rear or left front. Dealer said not to worry about it after they looke at the area. They said it is the new metal forming surface rust. There is a skid plate which seems to cover wherever the rust is starting. Should I demand that area be undercoated.

View 10 RepliesI detailed the 350 today and noticed on the plate that has the "LEXUS" name on it, on the driver's threshold, that there are rust spots forming. The plate looks to be either brushed chrome or stainless steel. I'm thinking it's chrome and thus the rust. Or, could be a defective piece of stainless steel. I intend to take it in to the dealer for repair or replacement.

The car has 5000 mikes on it now and today when cleaning the car, I noticed (hard to believe but true) 3 separate rust spots coming through the finish on the back hatch panel. I know I need to contact the dealer, but should I be screaming for a new body panel or just accept the fact the my new car has to be repainted? This is the 4th RX I have had. Never ever had a problem before.
View 8 RepliesI just noticed 2 rust spots on the back quarter panel in front of the wheel well on my Corolla. Then I looked on the other side, and found rust in the exact same spot. It looks like the rust is near some bolts that are holding on (what looks like) a small plastic mud flap (I'm not really sure if that is the correct technical name). Anyway, is that normal to have rust in the same spot on both sides, or is it defective? This is the only car I've ever purchased new so I was planning on keeping it, like, FOREVER. I think I've taken pretty good care of it so I plan to have it fixed. Just wondering if I should bring it to Toyota.
View 15 Replies I will be repairing the rust at the bottom edges of my doors. I work at a body shop and we've done 2 X's in the last 2 weeks! one was an 02 and was really bad. the owner wanted 4 new doors and rust repaired at the R/R lower C-pillar. the one today was an 04or 05? and just started to pop. After the first I looked at my doors and my L/R is the worst with just starting to flake paint. The others are just starting to pop.
I'll take some pics of what I'm doing which will be the same we did at the shop. In the years I've been on this site I've never seen mention of this! I know it`s more common in the midwest and east so I'm sure there are more than just a few! In as you don't know what I'm talking about.....look under the rubber weather strip (flap) on the lower part of the doors. the rust starts at the seem where the door frame and skin attach!
I have considerable rust on both sides at the rocker panels. Both running boards are precariously perched and won't last long (don't really care about that; I'll do without).
In my search for replacement panels, I'm only able to find ones for "crew cab super duty," not specifically the Excursion. Wouldn't they be identical? Identical enough?
My X spent 4 years up north and has a lot of rust underneath the chassis, can use blackstar rust remover polymer? I cannot stand looking at it and was wondering about having success using this product? It looks like it removes rust and seals it with a polymer.

My 2000 V10 Ex 4x4 (has 146,000 miles) with some rust on rockers and wheel wells runs pretty good. The exhaust needs some work. The transmission shifts pretty well I think, except sometimes from 1st to 2nd its a little jerky (like in a parking lot). I've put powerstop brakes on all four wheels, and have been maintaining it pretty well since I bought it almost two years ago.
Here's my issue. My 3rd son (out of 4) was diagnosed 2 years ago with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). His End Of Treatment (EOT) date is July 8th 2018. This is relevant because to celebrate his EOT, we are planning on taking a 2 week road trip out west in our new to us hybrid travel trailer we just purchased this past February. We are taking the camper on a few weekend trips this summer and one week long trip to Michigan in July (we're from Ohio).
My concern is this: am I risking a ruined trip out west with such an old vehicle? I don't really trust it for such a long trip, I worry something would fail me and ruin a trip that's supposed to be celebrating my son conquering cancer. Am I being overly paranoid? I see V10 trucks and Excursions all the time with more miles than my own. I just worry that the rust will just be too much and the driveshaft will fall off, or the transmission will fail while we're towing up the Bighorns, or in Yellowstone. You get the picture.
I've never used a rust converter, so I have no experience and wanted to hear from those who have. I've got some light rust on the frame rails and the hitch receiver. What product would you recommend, or do these products work well enough to consider? According to all of the websites, they all work miracles...

I have some rust bubble's on the rear of the bed right around and under the FX4 sticker...
Have been to dealer multiple times with concerns about speaker vibration from rear passenger door and rattle when going over rough spots from same general area. They end up saying they have not heard anything and I end up feeling like I am losing my mind. Does seem to be worse some times than others. Last weekend I opened the door and tapped the area around the base speaker. Lo and behold, sounds like there is something loose in there. Seems like it is moving around freely at times and may be caught somewhere and thus quiet at other times. What might be in there? Any easy way of getting at it on my own?

View 10 Repliesonce a year i remove all my seats (yes i unbolt front and rear seats and vacuum real good) and when i lifted the rear bench seat back from the rear wall i noticed THIS to some it might not seem like a big deal but to me this is a HUGE problem, i know my trucks a 2004 but whats gonna happen another ten years from now and longer down the road if i don't stop this now? Im gonna have to be buying or making a repair panel for the rear cab thats what! I plan on keeping my truck forever and buy a new truck down the road so i want this one to last, only thing i can think of is the rear sliding window rubber seal is leaking and letting the water get between the two body panels? From outside where the cab corner meets the center body panel piece none of the factory body sealer is missing or cracked so it has to be the rear slider seal?
View 14 RepliesI own an '03 F250 and have had it since new. I love the truck, keep it in good condition, and plan on keeping it for at least a few more years. For some time now I've had the classic small spots on one rear fender well. The spots are getting a little bigger and look like they're going to come through soon. I'm not a big fan of fender flares, but from what I understand, that's the easiest way to fix the problem, cut the rust out/seal it, install fender flares. Is there any other way to fix the rust without repainting the whole bed? I don't like fender flares because I think they look a little weird with stock tires and also because it's only one fender that is rusting, but I'd have to install them on all four. If fender flares are the only way to go, any that are small and low profile?

Upon delivery (long story, but I received the vehicle 1000 miles from the dealership) I noticed that the right rear disc is showing rust just on the inside portion of the rotor. It seems that the breaks are not contacting evenly on this side.
View 6 RepliesI washed and wax my wife's 2011 RX yesterday and I spotted rust around the edge of the taillight. It looks like part of the blister already break open and the other part just start forming. The car is Canadian build in Matador red mica color. Never been in any accident and never had any paintwork. I will take it in to Lexus dealer today for my SA to take an initial look. Hatch door rust issue on 3rd gen RX ??? I'm in shock that 4 years old car started to develop rust.
View 14 RepliesRust proofing the rear wheel well: I was trying to rust proof/coat the rear wheel well and surrounding area to make sure i get the bolts under it. Back of the car is where most of the salt sits as the undercurrents with wind tend to drive the salt deep in the quarter panels and around tank area. I wanted to confirm if these cars still have the wheel well bolt securing the bumper to the quarter panel with a rust prone steel bolt.
When weather gets better i'll take to get sprayed somewhere. But for now i wanted to leave something on it of a coat after a good cleaning. Hate dam salt or whatever they are using these days.
I also noticed that the SE's wheel well internal sheathing was much stronger looking, solid than what's on my LE - a felt type material. Besides the wheel well rim on SE has a band of silicone type substance overlaid on it. Right?
