2003 Hyundai Sonata, 70K.....engine makes a continuous pop...pop...pop noise during acceleration. So far have installed new crankshaft sensor, coil pack, plugs and wires.

I thought it was tire noise since I had bought a different tread design, we replaced the brakes too. The sound is getting louder. Louder with acceleration, when on curve it increases.
View 2 RepliesI drive a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. I currently have a slight grinding noise (or maybe more of a low growling) when I make left turns. This happened in the not-so-distant past and it was an issue with the power steering hoses (one had rusted through), so we (and by "we," I mean my fantastic father) changed it out. I thought this time it may just be low power steering fluid, but after checking it, I can say it's not low. I'd think if a hose was the culprit again, the fluid would be low. What we should look into?
View 1 RepliesI thought that my front wheel bearing was bad but I removed it and it seems fine. The issue that I'm having is a continous vibration (noise) in the left front that gets worse with speed.The half shaft makes a noise at the point where the half shaft meets the steering knuckle and when I turn the shaft at the outer splines, the grinding noise is present. My question is, is the entire half shaft supposed to turn, even the outer diameter of it that would enter the steering knuckle, or is the shaft supposed to turn inside of that outer diameter? I hope I was able to explain my problem clearly/
View 6 Replies4 cylinder Sonata with 177k miles on it. When I first get in the car and drive away the transmission doesn't want to shift up. I have a manu matic type shifter so I usually just shift up as the RPMS reach the normal shift point. Eventually the transmission starts working but sometimes it acts up and I'm back to shifting myself. Sometimes it shifts hard or double shifts. I'm getting conflicting info from different mechanics. Some say change the transmission fluid and that should fix it. Others say don't because it could open up a bigger can of worms and I will be buying a new transmission shortly after. What should I do?? I can't afford a new car nor can I afford to buy a new transmission.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2010 Hyundai Sonata with 88,400 miles and I am hearing a knocking noise in my rear right wheel whenever I apply light to medium pressure to my brakes (I don't hear anything when I brake hard). It started a year ago and I heard it throughout the summer. But in the winter, I didn't hear anything. Now that it's getting warmer again, the noise is starting to come back. I've taken it to my mechanic numerous times and he doesn't know what it is. I had my brake pads and rotors replaced just before the noise started a year ago. ABS, Brake, Traction warning lights display and chime sounds when car is started in the mornings. These warnings disappear after car is parked for at least half an hour and then re-started.
They will come on then intermittently while going over a small bump, or sounding horn or turning on wipers. It's like the car is haunted.
So far the dealership has replaced a front speed sensor which solved the problem for a couple of weeks. Yesterday I returned it to the dealership with the same problem and they diagnosed it as a poor battery cable ground and declared it fixed. This morning the lights and chime were back on.
The power steering feels loose & less responsive while lights are activated.
I am driving a 4 cylinder 2003 Hyundai Sonata just at 130000 miles. The other day on the trip back home the car started shaking violently and the check engine light came on. I ran the code and it led me to a cylinder 1 misfire. Today I replaced my spark plugs, and wires. The number 1 plug had some deposits on it, but nothing that should cause a misfire.
Now when the car is in idle there is a spark that jumps from the boot of one of the new wires to the grounding on the corresponding coil. I have never noticed this spark before changing the plugs and wires. It does this with either set of wires. I have a picture below where the spark is jumping from. The car has a noticeable drop in idle when it sparks. Do I need to look into getting some new coils?
I have 2008 Hyundai Sonata. I hear some noise from front wheels when i turn to right or left with breaks applied. There is no any noise when turning without break. the cv joint has been replaced but no any result. Still there is noise.
View 8 RepliesIs it time to replace? There is a noise coming from the belt and when I listen with the hood up my best guess is that it's the tensioner. I'm not sure if it is easy to replace or if that is even the problem. The belt looks fine. It allows me to twist it barely less than halfway so to me it does not seem loose. But in the rain last week got the battery light and lost power steering, power brakes, etc, then it went back to normal and hasn't failed again since. The car has 131,000 miles.
Is there a way to check the tensioner? It's pretty tight in there. Or am I wrong as to what the problem is? The sound is a rubbing/slight clicking sound that is in time with the engine and you can hear it if you listen inside the car when the engine is on. The belt also seems to wander around on the tensioner just a little. One day it was about a mm in too much, a few days later, a few mm out, in relation to the pulley.
We hear 5 to 8 second whistling noise inside car...can't tell where it comes from as it is very faint. ALSO, we hear a longer, maybe 10 to 15 second, noise that sounds like fingernails on chalk board. Both sounds are intermittent & neither can be heard when radio etc is on. We took car into shop and had driver side front wheel bearing repaired but that DID NOT solve these TWO issues.
View 2 RepliesOK so the car has been slightly drifting left for a while, at least a year, even after alignments. Last fall i had to replace the drivers side front axle just FYI. and then lately i have noticed what sounds like uneven wear, well i had my tires rotated and rebalanced last night the guy said the tires are "wearing beautifully" yet driving home i hear the distinct " hum hum hum hum" that speeds up and slows down respectfully, also i can "feel" it when driving on smooth roads. so now im thinking i need to take it back and have the axle checked out.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS. Recently there has been a squealing noise coming from the pulley on the power steering pump. I would start when the car was cold but then go away when the engine warmed up. Lately it is squealing continuously. It does not get more intense when I turn, it just seems to be there constantly now. If this is the pump or just an idler pulley?
View 4 RepliesOn two occasions, about 18 months apart, my Hyundai Sonata started lurching down the freeway, losing power at approx. 3000rpm and regaining it at about 2500rpm. (I was traveling about 70mph.) The first time I was hauled home and the second time i tried to maintain speed and limped home 40 miles on Hwy 80W outside of Sacramento, CA. AAA mechanics reset computer both times and the first time replaced gasket on accelerator. The second time they reset computer but could not find what caused computer to malfunction.
View 1 RepliesI recently bought a 2006 Hyundai Sonata 3.3 V6. Had another issue related to the rear wheel, which I fixed. Today, I changed the oil filter on the car (along with the oil). I have heard this engine noise before, but with the cover off it appears a little louder. It’s basically a ‘ticking’ sound.
The engine uses no oil, and has no other leaks. It has some noise on startup for maybe 1-2 seconds (like a loud lifter or something, but it goes away in less than 2 seconds, and at the same time the oil light goes out). I changed the filter today because I was told that a leaky gasket could result in the Filter not retaining oil between starts, causes some minor knock for a few seconds.
But anyway, this other ticking noise seems to be regular, regardless of condition. I have heard some people say that some engine noise is normal for this engine, but how about this?

I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. It has about 55K miles. I really like my car and outside of regular maintenance since I bought it I've had no issues, until now. I bought it used 1.5 years ago, and it is a prior salvage (back-end wreck). My Dad is an auto body mechanic though also knows the non-auto body stuff, and he looked it over thoroughly and test drove it with me and said it was in great condition.
I'm going to try to explain this best I can, I'm not a car person though. When I turn left not from a complete stop, so when I'm turning left and there is no stop sign or stop light and I do not need to yield, it sounds like I have a bag of sand or something and all of the weight and sand is shifting from one side to the other. Oh, and I had my mechanic father drive it, he can't hear it because he's very hard of hearing. My Mom heard it though.
The noise sounds like its coming from the front passenger side. I checked the front glove compartment to make sure it wasn't just something shifting around in there.
My car - a 2007 4 cylinder Hyundai Sonata - is making loud screeching sound more than occasionally but not all the time at high rates of speed (70 - 75 mph) and ESPECIALLY when I am exiting the highway to go to the train station and I turn to the left on the exit ramp. Never the right - only the left, and it stops immediately when I touch the brakes.
About 6 weeks ago, I had 4 new tires put on, and thought maybe they were not installed properly. I saw a mechanic today who put it up on the lift and said everything looks in good order and he could not find anything wrong with the driver's side front wheel, which is where it sounds like the noise is coming from. Of course, when we drove around in it, there was no noise. In fact, after I dropped him off and went to the train station it DID make the noise, so I turned around, picked him up and drove back exactly the same way - no noise.
It is a very, very loud uninterrupted screeching sound.
I own a 2004 Hyundai Sonata (2004 Base model L4 - 2.4L 2351cc - MFI GAS DOHC) which is a 4 cylinder and has about 113000 miles. Anyways, about a month ago we had one of our coldest days of the year. I drove the car to work and everything was fine. Then when I left work (it was freezing cold) I went to start the car and it sounded like I started a race car. It was so loud that I thought the car was going to blow up (no check engine light came on). I changed the oil and that didn't work and so I figured it was something with the exhaust.
Then I took it to my mechanic (applause). He said that he was stumped, the car was noisy but he didn't think it was a problem but he said he would try to figure it out. He ended up taking off the timing belt and said that was fine, he said the water pump was good as well. He had a service tech look at it with him and they thought the issue might be the "vibration dampener" or "damper" So they replaced that but it didn't work. He said it could possibly be the motor mounts but he said when he looked at them they looked okay?
I drove it off his lot yesterday and it is quiet when I idle but I can see the steering wheel shaking significantly. Then when I hit the gas it is still obnoxiously loud and with heavy vibration! But when going down a hill and letting off the gas there is a brief respite of silence (still vibration). It is especially louder in lower rpms and sometimes I think I can hear a metallic clanking/scraping noise when I have the times of "silence" but it is very faint.
