I have a 2011 ISF with 41k miles on it and yesterday I noticed the famous dried pink coolant below the water pump. I thought it only impacted previous years but apparently not. I'm going to drop it off tonight at the dealer since it is still under warranty. Doesn't look like the job has been done before according to Lexus service records.

I had to replace my water pump after driving with newly replaced Toyota Red antifreeze from the 8 year old Pink. I drove only two weeks and 1000 miles on it.
I believe that was just a coincidence. Some Camry's water pumps do not last even that long. Even if the coolant was not compatible with Toyota specification, it still could not destroy the pump seals in two weeks.
On the 06 Prius I have been working on, I noticed a light build up of pink coolant residue on the inside of the ICE water pump pulley. I assumed that this was due to a coolant leak from the weep hole, which points to an impending water pump failure.
View 16 RepliesThis is weird, I just replaced my ICE water pump 2 months ago and now upon inspection, I notice there is pink seepage coming out of the pump again. Although it's a very very slight amount, but being the fluid is pink, I can see the stuff coming out again.

View 7 RepliesI bought my 2008 JDM Prius a couple of weeks ago, at 84,500km. After a week, it started losing engine coolant. (Great start! Hope it's not a sign of things to come...) Fortunately, covered by a 3 month Dealer Warranty - hopefully. Yet to make the claim.
Anyway, went to the local Toyota Dealer to get some of the proper Toyota SSL (Super Long Life) Coolant to top it up. Got chatting with the Service Agent about Prius Service and what HSD Adjustments are possible (not many) and showed him my symptoms.
There's 2 small drips of dried water (and maybe soap) inside the upper half of my headlight on the glass. I first noticed this after I washed my car very thoroughly this weekend (I was spraying water on it for a long time). I suspect water/soap might have seeped through during the wash.
I know this is not supposed to happen, but is it a legitimate cause of concern? I'm thinking of letting this fly by, I can live with it, but perhaps not if it keeps happening every time I wash my car. Is it safe to wait on a trip to the dealership, or should I get it checked out right away?
BTW, I'm @ 30k miles
Noticed about a gallon of coolant on my floor the last 4 days. Got it pressure tested and was told bad water pump. Had it changed with timing belt and tensioners. Got home, next day, same thing. Coolant everywhere. Also, do I really need to put G12++ in as coolant? I've been using it but the shop put some green stuff in it.
I have a 2005, V8, Phaeton with 181,000 miles. Also, my car overheated, got the coolant too hot warning, 270 on gauge, let it sit 5 minutes, no problem afterwards. Should the thermostat have been changed also?
I replaced my timing belt, tensioner and water pump last weekend because I noticed I was leaking coolant from the water pump. The other day I popped my hood after driving and notice the reservoir bubbling a little bit because it sounded like the coolant was boiling and the line coming into the top of the reservoir felt hotter than normal. I opened the cap slowly and never heard any pressure release. I figured it was air in the line somewhere so I tried to work the air out. It sounded like the air came out and I took it for a drive and I finally heard pressure release after 3 different attempts. I opened the cap later when it was cool and noticed that the coolant was still at the original level.
Then the next day I was driving and came to a stop and noticed white smoke coming out when I gave it gas. It still drove fine though. I pulled over and opened the cap slowly but didn't hear any pressure release. I put in a little bit of radiator sealant and it seemed to do the trick.
The car has never overheated and there's no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. The heat also seems to be working correctly and my fans come.
So I parked on an incline last night for ~an hour or so, and suddenly my coolant light came on and my reservoir was completely empty. Sure enough, all the coolant had leaked out of the car. I am sure it's the water pump, but it doesn't seem to be a complete failed one because I picked up and filled my car's reservoir back up today and it hasn't leaked at all.
My guess is the pump isn't bolted on right and on the incline, the gasket is breaking it's seal, or some oil dripped down onto it when on the incline and the gasket swelled.
Nonetheless, my dealership is covering it on Friday, and they said they finally are making them with metal housings instead of plastic, and recalls should be going out soon (win for the MKVI crowd).
My 2006 Prius with 120k miles has coolant seeping around the water pump. I called around to get quotes on replacement cost, but one place said the thermostat should be replaced at the same time, while the other said it shouldn't. (BTW, I will have the belt replaced at the same time).
View 8 RepliesThis is an update to my Heater Hose to Water Pump Failure post. As it turns out, the water/coolant pump seems to have failed at the same time as the heater hose. I think Ford secretly installed an internal time mechanism to deconstruct certain parts at the same time.
Anyway, in desperation I took the van to the local Ford dealer for an inspection. NOTE: I don't trust most of the locally owned small time shops and national franchises. Half of the time, they don't know what they are talking about.
They said the water pump is toast. And I already knew that! Then they said, because the water pump is attached to the front timing chain cover, they need to replace the gaskets there also, and also the oil pan is attached to the front chain cover, so that needs done, and then they said the radiator is also leaking. What!!!
Then they asked if I would be interested in buying a new or used vehicle. This tool works great. Mine happens to be a left hand fan. The tool is used with the handle on the left. This tool is used to hold Water Pump pulley stationary, while unbolting the fan assembly.
Tomorrow morning is when I finally replace the water pump. Not a lot of tool are needed, except for the stubborn fan clutch. Sockets: 8, 10, 13, 17, except a 22 mm open end wrench for the fan clutch.
I have a Gen 6 2007 Camry SE V6 that I bought new in 10/2006.
Over the last few months, I've had an intermittent loss of coolant as evidenced by sometimes finding a small puddle of coolant on the floor in the garage.
I also often hear a noise under the hood for a few minutes upon first starting the engine cold. I've been just adding a little Official Toyota Coolant to the coolant reservoir.
I'm unable to see where the coolant is leaking from, but with the water pump problems others are having with this engine, and the noise I sometimes hear when starting the engine cold, I suspect it's the water pump.
I have 70,000+ miles on the car with the extended warranty which runs out in mid 10/2013. These symptoms led to a water pump failure?
I've got a 07 LS460 with 95,000 on the ODO and took it in for a harsh ride. The tech called back and said the upper and lower control arm bushings are bad along with a water pump leak.
If the water pump is leaking, shouldn't I have known? I haven't had any low coolant issues, smells or fluid on the ground.
I'm covered by an extended service plan, but would like to have known (otherwise I could have gone bust!)
Bought an 07 ES350 from a reputable dealer in March 2013. Had 65k miles when i got it. Had it about 6 wks and 2400 miles and noticed some reddish leaks under the engine. Thought it was trans fluid. I was driving to the dealership to get it fixed - when i noticed the temp guage up near the red zone and the heater (was 39 degrees F out) was blowing cold air. I started to get in the right lane - when all of the lights on the dash lit up - including the "check engine" light. I was able to get over - i think the car actually stalled.
Anyway - after a tow to the dealer - it was the water pump had leaked out "all" of my coolant. At 67k miles having a water pump fail on a Lexus? Did i do permanent damage to the engine?
Have air trap in coolant after water pump replace.cannot get it out. Do I need to drain coolant again and start over. 1997 nissan pickup 2.4 liter.

My question is do I need to change timing belt also right now. when I called the mechanics some of them recommending me to do the timing belt also.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2013 GTI manual 6 speed with 18K very gently driven miles. Yesterday I noticed coolant on the garage floor and checked the reservoir which was below the fill line.
Went to dealer this morning .....bad water pump. I asked if this was unusual for such a new car with low miles and service writer said yes. After googling water pump failures of GTi's I learned this was not the case.
1994 - 3.0 .... Back behind the water pump there is a stream of coolant what could that be. Water pump has been replaced earlier last year I thought that fixed it,there has always been a mystery leak..
View 6 RepliesSo my coolant system woes have continued! I recently replaced my thermostat ,thermostat housing, thermostat cover and all of the rings and gaskets. I finally stopped the leak on the driver side which seem to be the thermostat now about seven days later I am experiencing leaking on the passenger side. I walked out from work today and noticed I pool of coolant under the car. I can't tell exactly where it's coming from but it's coming from one of the components that runs off of the large belt. I snapped a few pics from the bottom of the car I don't think this is the actual component that's leaking. I think the leak is just falling off of it . I was wondering where the water pump is located.
View 5 RepliesI noticed the coolant was a little low in the reservoir. Took a look at the water pump and noticed a light coolant stain around it. It is a V6 with only 55,000 miles. Second owner, so no warranty. It seems a little unusual to have it start to go so soon, but it is what it is. I will put in a new one and change the belt while I am at it. What brand pump and coolant to use? Are there any good threads on changing a water pump, or is it pretty straight forward?
