Starting here to ask first but I currently have the CEL and VSC light both lit and 1st gear is locked out. What is causing this without having the codes read yet? Is it common to get both of these lights simultaneously? Having 1st gear locked out seems very concerning from a mechanical aspect to me, should I have it parked till I get it serviced?

View 2 RepliesExperienced a weird clicking sound when the steering wheel is fully locked either left or right, when turning at low speeds? Its more of a pop than click. No issues driving straight, or in regular turns, just when fully extended.
View 7 RepliesThis morning I drove the car for about 40 mins and everything was fine.
In the afternoon, I tried to start the car. Just found the ABS light was on and the gear was locked at the parking position. I couldn't push down the small button that releases the gear. Of course I was pressing the brake pad when I did this, but it seemed like the system did NOT know it, so it wouldn't allow me to change the gear. I tried several times but no luck.
At night, I tried again. This time the ABS light was off and the gear moved as normal.
I have the feeling that it's due to some sensor, but not sure. What shall I do to make sure this won't happen.
My 2008 f150 trans locked up while throwing trans fault and o/d light flashing, won't move in gear or neutral ! At dealership waiting to be tore into in morning .
View 3 RepliesOk, so in M mode shifts can be a little rough from 2nd to 3rd unless I give it enough gas. It's no big deal and my car has always been like that (owned it since 9/2013). But as of yesterday, shifts have completely changed from 1st to 2nd. It is clunky, extremely quick and lurches forward every time in M mode. It has NEVER done this before and it kinda sucks.
I've read all of the threads regarding tranny fluid, belt squeak, etc. and haven't specifically found anything like this. I haven't done anything to the car except the ELF recall and an oil change about a month ago.
I've never had this happen before, but today on my way to work during my first and second stop I noticed the car have a jerk when coming to the stop. I immediately thought it felt like the transmission was acting funny so I switched to the gear position view on the dash while at a stop light and noticed the car had placed itself into 2nd gear at a dead stop.
Some background info:
1) I only let the car heat up for 45 seconds max before driving.
2) The indicator light is just my TPMS or whatnot because I have Winter tires.
3) I have the common harsh shift when cold 1-2-3 until its driven for a few minutes.
4) It was -4 Celsius
5) I am in Normal Mode and never ever drive the car hard until it hits 2 bars on oil temp and then almost never drive it fast (why did I even buy an ISF?)
6) The car recently had its service done at Lexus (I denied the rear differential fluid change as I am getting this done at an independent garage.)All other services have been properly maintained since new.
7) The car returned to starting in 1st gear at stop after it warmed up. I am just curious to hear if this is normal or an indicator of a potentially larger issue down the road.
Also off topic but in my old IS350 in winter mode it stated the car in 2nd gear in snow mode. On the ISF snow mode still starts the car in 1st gear (online seems to show it start in 2nd? i.e. top gear etc quotes it does this.)
I have a 2008 ISF at 41k miles. In stop and go traffic, or starting from a stop and driving causally ( not WOT or even medium throttle) the car will rev up before going into 2nd. It is like the feeling of rolling over a speed bump.
Also in normal or sport mode in D ( not M ) if I WOT , you can feel it jerk before taking off. I don't know if this is normal or not...
My 2011 ISF has around 50K miles. Recently I noticed that when I shift into 1st from 2nd, usually on approach to a slower curve or slowing down to a light, there appears to be a distinct shudder. It doesn't happen all the time, and it happens regardless of Sport or normal mode.
Right after it shifts to 1st and the RPMs climb (or so it seems), I get 3-4 distinct back and forth movements .. i.e shudder. I think this is a recent phenomenon, as I know shifting into 1st is usually not very smooth, but I don't think I felt this shudder before.
No codes etc ...everything else normal. Don't think the trans is slipping, as car pulls hard and traction control is always busy. Motor mounts? Car is never tracked and driven spiritedly, but never ever abused or tracked. I do enjoy shifting it.
Very strange issue today. While driving in stop and go traffic (Auto Sport Mode). I noticed the car was starting in 2nd gear. Next stop I switched over to M and it would still not downshift to 1st even with the paddles or shifter. Once I started moving I could manually downshift just fine. Car seemed to shift normal. Eventually got the VSC / CEL . Here are the codes:

All of the codes cleared and did not reappear while idling. I have not driven the car yet. It also goes back into 1st now while stopped although I haven't tested coming to a stop. Will do that tomorrow
One thing to note that was out of the ordinary today. For some reason I was absolutely freezing (which should be impossible this time of year in SC) so I turned the AC off before this started and the idle dropped very low (400 - 500) which I seem to remember being normal but I almost never run with my AC compressor off unless I'm in race mode and I'm usually not putting along in stop and go traffic if that is the case. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but perhaps the low idle caused a voltage issue which tripped the codes.
I've noticed lately in auto mode (not in sport mode) when I'm going downhill on a section (doing maybe 45-50 mph) of road and apply the brakes, the transmission wants to downshift automatically to 5th gear. I know in Sport mode if you are not using paddle shifters this seems normal. I don't think this is normal in just auto mode, non sport.
I don't think mine is normal as I don't remember it downshifting this much in auto mode. I'm thinking fluid level needs to be checked. I know there is a sensor in the transmission that senses the angle of the car so not sure if it's being overly aggressive or not.
I noticed on cold start , when I start to accelerate (usually i push down maybe 20-30% on the peddle. not WOT) i noticed when the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd there is a sudden jerk that feels like a slip in the tranny.
you can hear and see the RPM shoot from like 3k to ~4.5k (during the shift) and back down to less than 3k on the 2nd gear.
This only happens when the engine started from a cold start and accelerating at a moderate pace. After a minute or two , i start moving from a full stop and it doesn't do it anymore. I have a 2008 model.
I recently got my 09 ISF and had a few questions pertaining to some noises I'm hearing. Of course I'm hearing the ticking from the motor but until it causes any issues I can live with it.. My real questions deal with
A: When I go over a bump such as a pot hole cover or something that makes my suspension articulate quickly at low speed, I hear a rattling noise from what seems like the suspension / hub. If it makes any difference in on 2012 shocks and soft springs. (my extended warranty is kicking in soon so I hope that it doesn't play a roll in it as I'm sure they will be quick to deny it)
B: When I am coming to a stop or slowing down and the car shifts into first on its own (I think only in manual mode) there is a clunk / slight jerk sometimes... It may be coming from the rear end? Is it some type of locking or unlocking that's going on?
I just recently bought my IS350 F-Sport (now has about 2kmiles) and the other day while it was about 70 degrees out, at a stop light, i decided to floor it in 1st gear (manual mode) and towards hitting redline (about 6300rpm), the traction light comes on and the transmission automatically shifts up before i even get a chance to fully manually shift myself. So by the time i do get a chance to push the paddle shifter, it would now go into 3rd gear.
I did not turn off my traction control before all this - so that may be the problem but i didn't think it would be an issue because the motor is all stock (aside from JoeZ intake pipe). Did simply turning the traction off allow the for full usage of 1st gear before needing to upshift?
I have a 91 accord I just was leaving to go to the store. I took off like normal when I was putting it in 2nd gear it locked up on me. Now if I leave it in neutral and let off the clutch it will move forward. If I try and put it in any gear it locks up. Is my trans shot or is it something else. I have been hearing clicking sound when I make a right turn. Just bought the car and it's my first Honda I just don't know what to look at first.
View 2 RepliesSo I have a 2.0L jetta with 160,000ish (daily driven) miles. And I'm starting to see a bit of a shifting issue mostly into third. Seems like I get locked out of the gear while shifting from second to third. I have to push it in(catches the "lock out") then I pull back and push forward again and it pops in. I rarely miss gears or grind. And I've noticed only a few times it does it in fourth as well. No grinding (unless I try to force it super hard) just won't let me go into gear.
Also while on subject of gear issues...
When I go into reverse, after the car has been sitting over night or for a longer period ( I would say between 8-14 hours) it will act up, almost like I am trying to drive with the parking brake fully engaged. In order to make it stop such bad behavior I have to rev it higher and it makes a *pop* or *crack* noise. Then it reverses just fine.
I've done a little bit of searching, "Look for a binding in the engine bay" and I have looked and haven't found much.
Why in the would I keep getting a VSC light on.
View 2 RepliesThe last few days I've started getting the Wrench Light on my dash panel upon starting the truck and trying to put it into gear. I first noticed this on a cold morning and got the wrench but the truck went into Reverse and once I got going I was only in 3rd gear. I started and stopped the engine a few times and finally got it going. Since then it seems to do it all the time whether hot or cold. Tonight I noticed that if i start the engine and just go directly into Drive. I don't have the issue but if I ever go into Reverse it goes into limp mode and i get the big yellow wrench again. I only have engine Code P0720 which seems to refer to a speed sensor. I can't seem to find the sensor listed on the typical auto part websites.
View 4 RepliesProblem started after an ignition coil went bad where '06 Accent w/ 45000 miles locks into 3rd gear failsafe mode. Changed coil and plugs, flushed transmission fluid and refilled with SPIII. Old fluid was very dirty but not full of metal bits. Car still goes into failsafe first time it reaches 3rd gear after initial startup. If you disconnect and reconnect battery after driving for 1-2 miles in 3rd gear the car works fine. Even after sitting for an hour and still slightly warm car works fine. If car gets cold again 2-3 hours later in winter you go into failsafe in first mile. Once again battery disconnect/reconnect puts it back to normal. I assume it is some type of sensor going bad and don't want to have a repair shop replacing good parts.
