Experiencing a hairline crack on the coolant overflow reservoir?
I noticed a bunch of dried coolant during my last oil change, ended up tracking it to where the upper radiator hose meets the reservoir. It's leaking a few drops per week, but it's enough to be irritating. I was only able to catch it by feeling the underside of the hose.

View 14 RepliesI have a 2000 passat tdi, over the past months ive noticed that I have been loosing coolant through my coolant reservoir overflow, my car has been running perfectly, my mechanic told me that its likely to be a head gasket problem and he put ceramic sealer in the coolant system, which was a disaster, the coolant pressure became much worse and told he me I needed a new radiator, which he fitted, but there was no improvement, whilst my mechanic was working on the car he noticed that when my car was running if he removed the oil filler cap the engine breathed heavily, my mechanic told me that the engine would need replacing,so I should sell the car as soon as possible.
I found it difficult to believe my trusty VW was in such a bad state, as it has only done 87000s mile and has full service history and starts and runs like a dream. Today I went for a second opinion, they told me that the coolant problem was because of a defected water pump, with most likely the plastic impellers failing, and the engine breathing problem could be down to a blocked breather at the top of the engine.
i have a 2008 xlt ford escape and i have coolant leaking issues, my reservoir would empty so i had to refill it with water. and then i let the car run but nothing leaked so i turned the AC on and it started leaking so i investigated further and identified the source. i, am not sure what is it, it might be a lose hose or something else.
View 3 RepliesWhat's with this coolant reservoir cap keeps leaking coolant?! I've been having to clean mine every few hundred miles now. The dealer overfilled my coolant but I already drained them out to just below the Max line and it still pushes out coolant. It was much worse when it was overfilled though. Now it's barely visible under the cap. Toyota of all people doesn't know how to design a proper coolant cap? On a 60K car? Can u all check under the hood and see? Cause u might have coolant leaks all over.
View 1 RepliesI got my oil changed and was told my coolant reservior is cracked and leaking. I have been driving 4,000 miles since then and not known or noticed anything until informed today.
Is this a high priority fix? I'm not sure exactly what it is but my car hasn't showed any signs of overheating. Also what is an estimate of price for parts and labor?
Have an issue with the coolant bowl cracking? Just went down to fire up my R this morning and the check coolant light came on. Noticed some coolant around the center seam of the reservoir. Turns out the top nipple was separated from the bowl.
View 7 RepliesI've had a issue since I've owned my 2015 purchased new that I didn't get a chance to take in again until recently. I have a little fluid that leaks out of the Hybrid coolant reservoir. This is not the one attached to the radiator for the ICE, I have an issue with the hybrid component one. When I first received my car the fluid was above the full level. After a few times wiping it up I stopped by and had the dealer remove the excess fluid from the reservoir until it was at the MAX line. After a little while I noticed some fluid continued to seep/leak out and I'm at the low line now. I recently took my car in again to take care of a few things before the bumper to bumper expires. When I received the car back I didn't fully review my paperwork until I got home. I saw the comment that "Normal characteristics of the Hybrid cooling system" ...
A second issue I have is I get a squeak sometimes when I start driving the car. Sounds like it's coming from the front wheel, it's not a constant squeak, but one that happens with each rotation of the wheel. They were unable to recreate the issue as it's random. Brakes were checked and no issue found. I'll have to see if I can get it to show the issue for the service rep.
Why my 96 dodge neon is leaking coolant. I was checking my oil and I noticed the reservoir tank was half empty, so I assumed it was nothing out of the ordinary since it's a 17 year old car. When I filled it though, it came pouring out of the tube that sits right under the tank. I'm capping it off every day before I drive and it holds, but it's definitely got a slow leak. It seems to only hold it for 4 days of driving for an hour. My temperature gauge stays at the normal level, but you can smell the antifreeze burning and the engine's running hot. I'm not too mechanically inclined, but what could be wrong with it? I've recently installed a new alternator and clutch cable and found out my valve cover gasket is leaking. I really want to save this car instead of getting a new one.
View 2 RepliesI'm about to tear into a friends 2002 B2300 4 cyl. The lower hose that comes off of the coolant reservoir is leaking in the metal part of the line. Close to where it bolts to the block. At a glance, it looks like I have to pull the whole top of the motor apart to get it off since the line runs around behind the motor. Is there a trick to removing this coolant line without a lot of teardown? I'm not finding it at parts stores so I guess it's a stealership part.
View 2 RepliesI was filling my wiper fluid reservoir and could not fill it to the top. After going throiugh a full bottle of fluid, I noticed it was spilling from underneath the car. I assumed it was an overflow, but later realized that this would make no sense as windshield fluid doesn't freeze, at least not for most of the world, and needs nowhere to expand to.
Now I have to start pulling pieces off the car to see if the tank is broken. I'm guessing I'll need a service manual to find the best way to get to it. If it is broken, how the heck would it have happened? I've only had the car for a few months, so I don't know its history. No accidents though.
2008 Santa Fe 2.7 105k miles Timing belt replaced two years ago at 80k miles I have no smoke, no sweet smell, no milk on oil dipstick, oil looks as clean as honey, no crustiness anywhere, no wet spots under hood or car. Yet my coolant reservoir was empty when I did my last oil change two mos. ago. I filled it up then. Today I checked it was just below the min. line. Car runs like a top, but I'm going to have a pressure test done today. I thought head gasket issues were very rare in these cars.
View 17 RepliesI purchased a 2008 Prius with 117,000 miles lat month. I took it to a friend's house recently. When he was looking at the car, he told me that my coolant level is low and put some coolant in the reservoir. The next day when I was driving the car I was hearing a rattling sound every time I pressed on brakes. I could not figure out what could be the reason. The sound went away after couple of days. Today I was going through the manual and noticed the place where my friend put coolant in is actually brake fluid reservoir. It looks a lot like coolant reservoir of my other car. So now I am wondering what could happen if coolant goes into brake fluid reservoir. Will it harm my brakes? It has been about 2 weeks since that incident happened.

View 15 RepliesMy Buick's 03 lesabre overflow reservoir cap is screwed on and has a gasket in it so it cant possibly leak air. I'm still wondering how does air or antifreeze get displaced in a overflow reservoir container that has no outlet to breath unless its forced through only one hose at the bottom in- and there is always a little pressure in the container to push the antifreeze back into the radiator when it cools off at the radiator metal cap?
View 19 RepliesI've got an '08 Cobalt. There is a large leak in my coolant system. The plastic reservoir is empty and if I add coolant and start the engine it all gushes out of a hole in a piece of plastic on the side of the radiator. Can I drive it to the shop if I watch the engine temperature or should I have it towed? Is the engine temperature measurement affected by the lack of coolant?
View 6 RepliesAny hows I have a 08 186,000 miles with a 6.4 , my problem is it is dumping coolant out of the reservoir. local dealer has got me for $4000,00 as of today and has not fixed truck yet. Here is whats been done. New radiator cap , new radiator, new egr cooler . when I test drove it today still did same thing. only does this with my gooseneck hooked to it.
View 14 RepliesMy dodge spirit has 80,000 miles on it. i love this little car, however, yesterday for some reason while driving my radiator reservoir started to overflow. I didn't notice at the time, but when i got home there was water in the engine compartment and it was obvious that it had come from the reservoir. This morning I went out to drive the car and at first the engine shook a little but then started running smoothly, when I backed out i noticed a rather large cloud of white smoke (water in the engine) I immediately turned off the car. I have a feeling I will need to rebuild this car's engine. What I should expect to pay for this repair?
View 6 RepliesMy windshield washer warning light is stuck on. I think there is a good reason for it. My washer tank has been converted to a stand alone fuel cell filled with C16. Just looking for any ways to have the tank function properly. I assume the sensor, or float (if there is a float) went bad. Heard of people covering them in lacquer or something to repel moisture.
