My parking brake warning light won't turn off. I checked the brake (pressed and released a few times). Checked the brake fluid (it is right under max). 9800 miles on it.
View 6 RepliesJust like the title says, I have a 2013 Tiguan. When I park and turn off the Tiguan, I will hear the the parking brake activate and then turn it back off immediately. It doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.
View 1 RepliesYesterday the brake warning light came on in my 13 350. I checked, and the fluid level in the master cylinder was at the "min" line. I don't think I've ever had to had brake fluid in any car before. Seems to be Ok today, but I was wondering if other folks have had this happen? Of course if it happens again I'll have to check the brake system. Just wanted to check.
View 8 RepliesHad my car parked outside of work for about 12 hours yesterday, and in the NYC cold front, the parking break must have stuck on slightly. When I started to move, despite the fact I'd released the parking break, I received a warning in the MFI that said PARKING BREAK FAILURE TO RELEASE. I pulled the handle again and heard it pop just a little more off. Everything worked great after that. If I hadn't received the alert I probably would have driven off with it on. I'd probably have noticed the hesitation and checked the break again, but the alert was useful. Some of the warnings in the MFI can appear to be a pain at times, but it's amazing how thorough a job VW has done monitoring the cars systems and giving real time information if something doesn't work. You just have to make sure you don't get info overload from it all!!
View 4 RepliesI've got a '13 GS 350 F-Sport and when the parking brake is set and you go to get out of the car it makes a real weird creaking noise. Its only when the parking brake is set, if i turn the auto parking brake off, it doesn't do it at all.
View 11 RepliesThere are a few threads on a sticking parking brake resulting in the warning light remaining on. Mine has developed to a stage that it requires a toe under the foot pedal every time to silence the alarm.
I finally stuck my head in the footwell this morning to look at the mechanism, expecting to see a strained spring. However there was no spring in evidence and I saw that when the parking break is released, the cable remains with some free play above the contact point with the pedal: i.e. there is no tension on the cable when the pedal is released, there is about 15mm of "free cable", leaving the pedal almost "floppy".
Observations
1) The pedal has no spring to return to it's correct position. Based on self study guide SSP_277 this is not as it should be as on page 37 this discusses a spring mechanism in the pedal
2) I would image there should be tension in the cable even when released; I feel the rear mechanism requires inspection as there are springs there.
3) While the parking brake works fine, It has a lot more travel that it previously had. Thus something is worn, stuck, or the self adjusting mechanism is not working.
4) For the record, car has 110K miles, the temperature is above freezing, the behaviour is not weather dependent and the parking brake has been routinely used (2008 car).
5) My recollection from new is the parking brake was released with a significant spring action: quite abruptly.
I have purchased a second hand Lexus GS350 F 2015 with only 12,000 miles on it. I do have an issue with the parking brake. It works fine sometimes, and sometimes it blacks out and I keep getting the (!) sign and message saying (Check Parking Brake System, Parking Brake Inoperable) with blinking red Parking sign. It simply releases the brake and it doesn't function at all. It goes sometimes by itself and comes back. This issue usually happens after driving the car mileage not immediately when starting up the car. How to handle this problem and which part is malfunctioning.
View 2 RepliesI recently had the rear pads replaced on my 2010 Tig after about 39k miles by my local mechanic (won't do that again). Not soon after I received the warning light that indicated a parking brake error but had no issue using the brake. Took it to the dealer for the 40k service and they checked the brake. Couldn't find anything wrong with it after diagnostics but they did reset it. Service Mgr said I may get the error again and they would have to look into it further (possibly the switch??). Received the error again today.
View 4 RepliesAfter doing a Total Brake job on My 08 LS 460 plus Rotors. I got a warning message that my Parking Brake was inaccessible and to see the Dealer . I went back and changed all the Parking Brake Hardware to solve the Problem and I am still getting the same Warming Message.
View 14 RepliesMine is a 2015 ES350. I drove it normally on last Friday. Today Monday morning, the car can't be started. Other symptoms are no any lights, stiff brake, shift locked in parking position, no clank with a jump starter.
The battery connection is tight; I also tried both keys and holding it right next to the start button. It seems like the car system is shut down.
I may call AAA to tow to dealer. However, the shift is in parking mode. Is there any way I can override the shift to N?
Today the parking brake light didn't turn off when I released the parking brake. Other than the light staying on, nothing else unusual occurred. I did not notice any indication that the brakes were dragging. The brake fluid level was near maximum.
After reading earlier Priuschat posts on this subject, I found the cause which apparently is explained in technical service bulletin TSB BR002-07 (Parking Brake Light Won't Go Out | PriusChat)
Here's what happened to me. For some reason, the entire switch body loosened from the firewall and moved away far enough away from the lever arm such that it couldn't contact the switch and close it when the pedal was released. I think it happened because I pressed the pedal too quickly and with too much force somehow. The switch is at the top of the pedal assembly and it's not too difficult to reach
So, I pushed the switch back against the lever arm and presto, the brake light turned off as it's supposed to. I tried the parking brake several times and it is fixed for now. Now I need to determine how to tighten the switch so it won't move again.
I was down at H20i this past weekend and had my window cracked and a truck splashed water into my car all over my dash. Then all my lights started flickering. So I let it air out for about 2hrs and cleaned it all up and the problem went away expect the parking brake light flickered for a bit then just stayed on and kept binging at me and says to release the parking brake. So when I got home I let it air out all night and let my windows down and put my car in the sun all day today. Parking brake light is still on.

My Parking Brake/Low Brake fluid Level Warning Light will coming on while driving and then all the gauges drop down. The light goes off and the gauges come right back up. All this happens within 2-4 seconds maybe. And usual happens maybe once every 6-7 times I drive it so not all the time.
I am driving, not braking so even more confused.
Ok had my driver side front cv axle replaced. But not when only backing up and turning I hear and feel a popping sound. Happens when I turn left or right while backing out of garage or parking spot.
View 1 RepliesThe parking brake audible warning is going off along with the parking brake light. I tried disengaging the brake multiple times and it went off once, however now it will not go off. I found some older pictures of a switch on the arm that swings with your foot when you engage the brake, but I can't find it on my 2004.
Is there a switch down there that needs to be kicked, contacts cleaned or replaced? I checked the fluid level and vacuum hoses and do not see anything obvious.
The little green light on my Parking brake button does not illuminate when i push the button to let me know if its on and I am also getting a message on my dash saying Check Parking brake system and have vehicle checked by a dealer. What my problem could be before I take the vehicle to a dealer? Apparently the automatic parking brake is not working at all and the little green light doesnt light up when the button is pressed. Annoying that warning light comes on and it high lights tire pressure in yellow even though the tire it high lights actually has more psi than some of the other tires.
2009 LS600 ... Pulled up to a traffic light and noticed the red brake warning light had come on. When I went to pull away, the car would not budge! I turned the car off and restarted and it went fine.
Now, intermittently, the red warning light comes on and off. I tried googling this topic to see if there were any references to it happening but found nothing. It tends to come on when I'm slowing down but it has come on while normal driving as well.
I have had this 2008 ES 350 since 2010. Best car I have owned. EXCEPT for winter driving as the wheels stop spinning and it leaves you stuck. give me the old rear wheel drive any day. The main concern right now is, my dash has a red "brake" light that has been on for a week now. sometimes in the afternoon it goes out for a while. I have almost 42,000 mi. would that indicate I need to change the brake pads, which in turn lowers the fluid?
View 1 RepliesMy brake light burned out. It's a led light. Lexus says the entire lens bracket needs to be replaced. So you can't replace just the bulb. First, it seems odd that the LED light burned out on a 2013 car. Aren't they supposed to last quite a while. Second, bulbs wouldn't be covered under warranty. So am I just SOL?
