After a long drive, I got up and out of the car and heard a creak/clang type of noise from the rear suspension. Sat back down in the front and rear seat and it makes the noise. Pushed on the rear of the car and the noise is not there. What gives. Yes I seem to discover a lot about my car in the last 5 months of leasership.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2005 with just a touch over 95K on it. I know I'm due (and maybe a little overdue!) for plenty of scheduled maintenance prescribed in the "Passport" between 90K and 100K but I've been pretty laissez-faire about doing much other than changing the oil every 3K and telling my mechanic to "just make sure everything looks alright" since I picked up the vehicle at 70K miles. I know - there should be some audible sighs from more responsible owners, a finger-wag or two, maybe even a reply chastising me for being so frugal about the maintenance. Probably pretty well-deserved. The original owner was nothing short of OCD with the maintenance so I consider myself pretty lucky. In my defense, however, I'll tell you: there's never been a thing wrong with the car in over 20K miles. Not a peep, squeak, growl, groan, whatever. Other than getting fairly inefficient mileage (~42 city/~48 highway - I live in a very hilly place and the hills always seem to be going "up" rather than "down" for some reason...)

Noise is coming from the front suspension. You can hear it at :11 after i come to a stop, then drive over a dip. The dealer has told me it is the front struts. It's the 2nd time I've taken it to the dealership, the first time they could not replicate the noise so i am surprised the technician was able to hear it this time, and I don't want to spend money on strut replacement if it isn't the cause.
Rear end Suspension noise, '13 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T? I purchased a new '13 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T in Sept. 2013. Shortly after I noticed the rear end of the car creaks/squeaks when the suspension compresses thru it's travel. This happens when driving over tall speed bumps at 2-3mph or into/out of steep driveways at 2-3mph. Rear end noise/squeak at anytime?
View 49 RepliesSo far, I am very impressed with the ride and body tightness of my new Santa Fe. I do hear an occasional groan, or creak, but only in the harshest ride situations. Is this a normal characteristic of this vehicle, or am I just lucky? Of course, the ride is different from my Genesis, but the comfort is not a letdown in any way. I'm just hoping that this comfort will continue in the Santa Fe and not deteriorate with time.
View 1 RepliesIt's the '99 Escort again, about 80K miles, now with the son and his bride in Chicago. He reports a clanking noise, maybe from the "rear axle" (a misnomer, I believe), when cornering at the high end of normal cornering speed (15 mph??). No noise at low speed. No info on if the noise is periodic or if it varies with speed (except on/off). No info if braking changes the noise. Lug nuts are tight (my not hopeful wild guess of a cause). I told him it's probably not DIY anyhow, and the car goes to a mechanic tomorrow. What we should expect to find (just to gain confidence in the diagnosis)?

View 5 RepliesI drive a 2006 F-150. I'm new to the forum and already found some good info on the annoying tick coming from my 5.4.
I have recently purchased a ski boat and lately when towing my boat and coming to a stop I feel as light movement coming from the rear of the truck that feels like something slides forward slightly. When I accelerate "it" slides back and if I accelerate quickly, "it" makes a loud clank noise.
I have ruled out hitch, receiver, ball, anything from the boat/trailer etc... It is coming from the transfer case/ spare tire area under the truck and it only appears to do it (or to where it is noticeable) while towing the boat.
I recently traded in my old 95 ES 300 for a 2013 ES 300H. I prefer the ride quality of the older model. I realize that many people prefer the new ride quality, but I don't. I have Michelin tires, and I have reduced the pressure to about 29 PSI, which worked, but I'd like to soften the ride more. Is it possible to adjust the suspension or shocks to make the ride softer?

It happens most often when the going over bumps and uneven roads, I tend not to hear when going over potholes (probably because the sound of the crash over potholes tend to overpower the squeaks.) It sounds like it's coming from the rear right-side.
So, it must be the suspension then, right? You would think so, except:
It sounds like it's coming from inside the car rather than outside. Since I have the windows all rolled up, the squeaks would have to be pretty loud for me to hear it, if it's coming from outside.
Did the bounce test, pushed it with most of my weight to hear if it makes any sound. It doesn't.

I have a 2004 GX470. Been a great car. Has 310k miles and very little in repair. My current problem is the rear air suspension leaks down. The problem is not 100% of the time but probably 80% when the car is left parked and off, over a few hours the air is released and the rear is sitting on the bumpers. My theory is it is not the air bags as if one leaked it would be doing this every time the car sits.
My hunch is it is either the component that releases the air is not sealing up every time after it releases the prescribed air when the car is parked. ( That sound it makes when you get out and it lowers the car a little each time) ... Or the sensor tells that component to let more air out and it does not tell it to stop.
So my rear air suspension just went out, I'm assuming that my air bags have a leak or a hole because the air compressor shut its self off. I'm thinking of just getting rid of the air system completely and just putting on some good shocks and leveling it out.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2007 GX 470 that I use to tow a boat ~3500 lbs. Typically, when I attach the boat to the trailer hitch, the rear end of my GX 470 will lower ~1.5", then the air suspension will activate and bring the rear end back up to a nearly level position. Lately, the air suspension has quit working.
I've taken it to my dealership, they've checked it out and told me that the system is working fine. When I brought it home and attached the boat, the air suspension is still not working. I've got an appointment on Monday to haul the boat up to the Lexus dealer and show them the problem. I can use the air suspension switch to raise the the rear end and the pump seems to work just fine.
I'm thinking that, although the "system" is working fine, somewhere there has to be a sensor or switch that tells the system to work - that isn't working.
For several months there has been a rumble from the rear like suspension is faulty but inspection of strut and other parts showed no obvious issues. 60,000 miles one owner.
View 8 RepliesI have an 07 GS350 RWD, 132K miles.
Symptoms: Very audible squeak from suspension front and rear (not as bad in the rear) when going over bumps. It happens mostly on the driver side. I can replicate the squeak when I push down on the car in the front. It only happens when the weather is warm, lately when it's been 60 degrees or less, it doesn't make any noise really.
Another squeak I'm hearing is when I get in the car first thing after it's been sitting a while, there's a squeak that's coming from mid-body area (I think), and happens when I turn right, transferring weight to the driver side.
I've searched and saw numerous threads but haven't really been able to get a clear idea of what may be causing this. I did have someone lube the control arm bushing (at least I think we did) and the noise did not go away. Car feels smooth, but I wouldn't rule out shocks as a culprit. I'm trying to get ideas and narrow things down so I can start hunting for it when I have free time.
Heard this noise from the suspension when going over bumps with the windows rolled down? It's loud enough to where i am sure it could be heard if you were a pedestrian walking next to the car. I have an IS350 Fsport (AVS), sounds pretty junky.
View 14 RepliesI've been noticing some (a lot) of oil on the inside of my rear tire. I went ahead and drained my diff fluid to check if the was any left and there was but I replaced it and cleaned the tire (hoping I just drove through something) and it's back again already. I don't know much about axles, what seal usually holds stuff back in there? What parts should I expect to replace other than the seal and any brake components effected? I noticed a creak/crunch coming from that area but seems to crunch with suspension articulation so not sure if it's related but I have the feeling it is.
View 14 RepliesMy rear air suspension keeps dropping. Sometimes my suspension goes down all the way when parked, but not all the time. When I start the car it goes back up. It's a 2003 GX470.
View 8 RepliesDoes this sound normal that sometimes the rear suspension with move/adjust itself after I turn off the car and then get out? One side appears to be slightly lower than the other as well, but both of the height adjusters underneath appear to be at the same level.
View 4 RepliesI was driving along and all of a sudden it felt like the rear suspension was just not there it actually felt like it was bouncing on the frame. then it went away. I recently in the last year had the rear shocks changed with OEM shocks.....
