So my rear air suspension just went out, I'm assuming that my air bags have a leak or a hole because the air compressor shut its self off. I'm thinking of just getting rid of the air system completely and just putting on some good shocks and leveling it out.
View 7 RepliesI own a 2004 GX470 and am recently having issues with my rear airbag. The height control is inoperative and the bags will not fill completely and lift the rear.
I went under the car and found the bumpstops are a few centimeters off the rear axle.
What could cause the height control to not function? Could it be the height sensor, airbag, etc? I could hear the air compressor turn on so do not think that is an issue.
In my Driveway, many times I notice my GX in the rear is sagging. I measured it from the center of the wheel up . when it appears normal it is 21". When it is sagging it measures 18". So there is 3" difference.
What is causing this, I know some will say it maybe a airbag leak. I dont think thats the case and I MAYBE wrong. Because, when I park the car with with no sag at night and the height is 21" it stays like that in the morning.
I know there are lots of idea of doing a change over to regular struts. What is the best method out there?
My left rear suspension will leak down to bump stops unless I turn off auto suspension leveler. I can set suspension at high level turn off and it will stay that way i had set that way for 2 weeks and no leak but if I turn on leveler it may stay or it may leak down usually just left side somebody had said that my air bags were leaking so I tested it out all last month and find it hard to believe the bags are leaking if it will stay inflated a week or 2.
View 1 RepliesWe just bought an 2008 GX470 w/ 68,000 miles from a local non-lexus dealer and I believe we may have an air suspension issue. We made note of it prior to purchase and as they don't have mechanics on the weekend they weren't able to look at it so it was written in our contract to be looked at. Otherwise the car is fantastic and had been dealer maintained on every service interval minus the 65,000 mile interval.
Anywho See, when we were looking at the car it was parked in between two other GX and they both sat higher in the rear than the one we bought. I turned the car on and the compressor kicked on and raised the rear up to the same height as the others. I toggled between High and low and that seemed to work fine as well. My question is, should the car lower itself overtime (i.e not immediately after you turn it off but over the course of 1-2 hours it will lower down) or should it stay at normal height when you turn the car off? If it does lower why would it be sitting lower than the other two GX (unless they were recently driven)? There is also another GX at my work and I parked next to it today to see if it sat at a similar height and when I parked next to it in the morning they were similar heights and around lunch our GX was lower. I have a feeling there is a leak in a fitting or a line since it's not leaning to one side or the other but wanted to get opinion of the experts prior to talking to the dealer's mechanics.
I have a question regarding the rear air suspension. After driving the vehicle for a short or extended period of time, I hear the rear passenger airbag/air-line loosing air as I turn off the ignition. I wanted to ask if this is normal or if I have a leak somewhere..
View 6 RepliesI have a 2004 GX470. Been a great car. Has 310k miles and very little in repair. My current problem is the rear air suspension leaks down. The problem is not 100% of the time but probably 80% when the car is left parked and off, over a few hours the air is released and the rear is sitting on the bumpers. My theory is it is not the air bags as if one leaked it would be doing this every time the car sits.
My hunch is it is either the component that releases the air is not sealing up every time after it releases the prescribed air when the car is parked. ( That sound it makes when you get out and it lowers the car a little each time) ... Or the sensor tells that component to let more air out and it does not tell it to stop.
I have a 2007 GX 470 that I use to tow a boat ~3500 lbs. Typically, when I attach the boat to the trailer hitch, the rear end of my GX 470 will lower ~1.5", then the air suspension will activate and bring the rear end back up to a nearly level position. Lately, the air suspension has quit working.
I've taken it to my dealership, they've checked it out and told me that the system is working fine. When I brought it home and attached the boat, the air suspension is still not working. I've got an appointment on Monday to haul the boat up to the Lexus dealer and show them the problem. I can use the air suspension switch to raise the the rear end and the pump seems to work just fine.
I'm thinking that, although the "system" is working fine, somewhere there has to be a sensor or switch that tells the system to work - that isn't working.
My rear air suspension keeps dropping. Sometimes my suspension goes down all the way when parked, but not all the time. When I start the car it goes back up. It's a 2003 GX470.
View 8 RepliesDoes this sound normal that sometimes the rear suspension with move/adjust itself after I turn off the car and then get out? One side appears to be slightly lower than the other as well, but both of the height adjusters underneath appear to be at the same level.

View 14 RepliesOK so I know that my rear suspension no longer operates the way it should...with 230K miles and owned since 03....time has taken its toll. So I was wondering if any parts list to repair the rear air suspension so that I can take it directly to my toyota dealer to install. I can tell that the air suspension is trashed simply because I would normally hear the car lower when I parked in the garage etc...now it doesn't do anything.
View 6 RepliesI took my 2003 GX470 for service (not a Lexus dealer), which included rear brake pads. After picking up my car, I realized there was a serious malfunction with the rear air suspension, and my "car height" was no longer working. I took it back to the mechanic immediately - he stated that the rear air bag deflated when they put it up on the lift (which is normal). However, they couldn't get it to inflate again, so had to order a new one. I'm wondering if this is the mechanic's problem or mine (the car has 101,000 miles on it).

Every time I go up a slanted driveway (driving into a driveway at an angle, not head on), there is a clunking noise coming from the right rear of the car. The sounds it makes is almost as if I the spare tire is lose hitting on the right side of the car. This only happens if I am driving into a driveway coming from the right side, the sounds does not happen if I am entering my driveway from the left side.
View 1 RepliesI've had the stiff ride issue with my 2005 gx470. Took it to three lexus dealers and finally the vehicle is fixed. Hats off to Lexus of Maplewood, St Paul, MN. Their shop foreman persisted and found after several days troubleshooting; a speed sensor was the culprit. My ride is much smoother over speed bumps without the need to cycle through the height adjustment.

View 14 RepliesSo I found an 03 gx one owner and only 56k Miles on it. Nice truck. I noticed right away that the rear suspension feels hard and bouncy. When I adjust the height it does work but seems to take a bit. In the Low setting feels like it is on the bump stops. Not sure where to start, sounds like the level sensors can be an issue, so I will have a look at them. Feels like it is just going to the top height to me thus making the ride really stiff. I climbed onto the rear bumper and tried to bounce the truck and it is like a rock. Like the bags are over inflated.
