I have a leak in one rear shock and the pads need replacing. Local NTW says they are certified mechanics and work on GX's. Dealer is so darn expensive I'm trying to find an alternative. View 1 RepliesI have my 2004 gx470 in for service today. I have noticed that the air compressor seems to run longer and more frequent . I bought the trunk July of 2013. I have lexus plat extended warranty. Prior to this service in august of 2013 I was experiencing similar issues and when the truck was in then they replaced the rear air height control reservoir assembly . Now they are changing the rear drivers side airbag . My question is should air bags be replaced as a pair. Will I notice any ride difference since they are only replacing the one that is leaking . I would figure common sense would apply and that the air bag works or is does not.
View 6 RepliesMy left rear suspension will leak down to bump stops unless I turn off auto suspension leveler. I can set suspension at high level turn off and it will stay that way i had set that way for 2 weeks and no leak but if I turn on leveler it may stay or it may leak down usually just left side somebody had said that my air bags were leaking so I tested it out all last month and find it hard to believe the bags are leaking if it will stay inflated a week or 2.
View 1 RepliesI just replaced front shocks and got the car aligned. Now I feel the difference in front to rear and want to change the rear shocks out too. I seem to remember someone suggesting under normal circumstances the Prius rear setup never gets aligned. Is this true?
View 4 RepliesSince I got my car back from the dealership after changing the rear shock this summer, I can feel a vibration in the car at highway speed. After the shock were replaced the car steering wheel was out of balance and pulling one side. After they attempt to align the car about 5 times it got a little bit better. Then I found out that they had an accident with my car and tried to hide it: [URL] ....
I suspect the tie rod may have been damaged so that could explain the steering issue. It also seems to have gotten worse over time. I'm trying to figure out the possible cause, if directly related to the tie rod damage or indirectly as if the tie rod damage could have caused uneven tire wear and then causing the vibration over time. I've attached some pictures, the 2 first are from the front passenger side, the 2 last from the front driver side. My tire are the Michelin pilot and this thread seems to suggest those tire might be hard to align properly: [URL] ....
I'm due for my winter tire change soon and see if thing gets better, I'll get them balanced too. I'll check at the same time for control arms/shock damage. But still, I would like some feedback and see if those tread wear are normal and hopefully get to the root of the problem (the outer edge on the tire in the back are much less damaged).
Can the instument cluster on my GX 470 be relaced with a used unit? Will the miles be retained from the computer or will I have to some how have them matched to the old odometer? I do not want to have a mileage unknown unit nor do I want to have to buy a new cluster from the dealer.

Now wanna know what are my options can I change just the one rear side which is leaking and do I have to put the oem or can I put anything aftermarket.
View 14 RepliesSo, in changing a rotor today, I noticed the entire top bolt of my shock absorber (rear left) was sheared in half. I researched replacements and saw the staggering price tag. In 8 years with this car (2003 Gx470) I've never once changed the shock mode from sport to comfort or vice versa. Am I correct in assuming that I can by a decent aftermarket shock as a replacement and not hook up the electronics and only lose the ability to adjust the shock from the cabin? I will still retain the ability to raise or lower the car, correct? If so, what is a decent and affordable shock to purchase? Also, while I am in there, are there any recommended bushings or other things to replace to cut down on squeaking and other noises?

View 2 RepliesI just bought my mother's 2004 GX470 and I tried the voice command button on the steering wheel but no beep sounds and nothing happens. I tried looking up the information in the manual and seems like I'm doing everything right.
Second, when I brake I feel a thump as I release from the brakes, is that normal?
Have water on passenger side floorboard after a heavy rain or car wash. Seems to come from more the dash glovebox area than rocker panel. I'm aware of cleaning sunroof drains, don't think that's it.
I've removed the kick panel, can see drain, it's not too short like other post show. I realize it could be the windshield, but what about the cowl drains?
Now to the clicking noise. I hear it when AC is on recirculate, if I switch to fresh air, it stops. The temp outside or in, seems irrelevant.
So I have to replace them since I have this rattling in the rear and my mechanic has diagnosed it to be the rear bushings...

View 8 RepliesMy GX and I are in the south and I sometimes have to leave it parked outside all day in 100F+ temperatures during the summer. Needless to say it gets extremely hot inside and sometimes takes a while to cool down. I started using my rear AC on full in conjunction with my main AC to facilitate cooling off the interior of the vehicle. I do this even when I'm by myself because... if I'm not mistaken... the rear AC uses a completely separate unit including a separate compressor. So it seems that it would cool things down faster running both systems. Can verify that the rear unit is completely independent of the main AC system?
View 6 RepliesI'm the owner of GX 470 2006 85 k miles, facing a problem of height control failure. The problem started some few months ago while starting the car. I there was a noise behind on the height compressor. Took it to my mechanical and the noise disappeared because the compressor wasn't well fixed to the body. Since then i'm not able to adjust the height of the car. The car remains at the height low level and jumping dangerously each time i drive it inside a hole. Decided to go back to the mechanical the following code error appeared during the diagnosis: P1445. How can this code be related to the height control system when we know that this code is related to the secondary air injection system switching valve?
I decided to change the 2 height sensors located on the R and L rear side of the vehicule and the VSV locate in the engine. The problem remains. Now the dashboard keeps the green light at N and the button to raise and low the height of the car is not responding. More the mechanic can't anymore obtain the errors code from his diagnosis device.
Rear heating system in my Lexus GX470 only blows cold air, what could be the problem. Front heater works fine.
View 4 RepliesI've had the stiff ride issue with my 2005 gx470. Took it to three lexus dealers and finally the vehicle is fixed. Hats off to Lexus of Maplewood, St Paul, MN. Their shop foreman persisted and found after several days troubleshooting; a speed sensor was the culprit. My ride is much smoother over speed bumps without the need to cycle through the height adjustment.

I have a leak coming down the drivers side rear shock absorber (the bit that bolts onto the swing arm) this has obviously resulted the the rear of the car riding low, but, is there something I can take apart and replace or do you have to replace the whole thing.
it seems likely that it could just be a seal broken somewhere.
2014 RX 350 - 10,300 miles - Rear Main Seal Leak #2
Brought car into the dealership to repair my rear main for a second time. Looks like every 5,000 miles the leak shows up.
The dealership has repaired the rear main seal a second time, and guess what?
Two days later at the dealership the car started leaking oil again.
So now it's been identified that the entire short block needs to be replaced. Should take another week to repair.
This has been the worst experience I've ever had with a new car. Now I have a relatively new car (10,300 miles) that has had 2 rear main seals repaired, a short block replaced, replaced front parking sensors, and a radio that displays the wrong time when first starting the car.
