I just replaced front shocks and got the car aligned. Now I feel the difference in front to rear and want to change the rear shocks out too. I seem to remember someone suggesting under normal circumstances the Prius rear setup never gets aligned. Is this true?

View 1 RepliesSince I got my car back from the dealership after changing the rear shock this summer, I can feel a vibration in the car at highway speed. After the shock were replaced the car steering wheel was out of balance and pulling one side. After they attempt to align the car about 5 times it got a little bit better. Then I found out that they had an accident with my car and tried to hide it: [URL] ....
I suspect the tie rod may have been damaged so that could explain the steering issue. It also seems to have gotten worse over time. I'm trying to figure out the possible cause, if directly related to the tie rod damage or indirectly as if the tie rod damage could have caused uneven tire wear and then causing the vibration over time. I've attached some pictures, the 2 first are from the front passenger side, the 2 last from the front driver side. My tire are the Michelin pilot and this thread seems to suggest those tire might be hard to align properly: [URL] ....
I'm due for my winter tire change soon and see if thing gets better, I'll get them balanced too. I'll check at the same time for control arms/shock damage. But still, I would like some feedback and see if those tread wear are normal and hopefully get to the root of the problem (the outer edge on the tire in the back are much less damaged).
Question: after replacing rear shocks on 2009 Altima, does in need a rear wheel alignment? After shocks were replaced on my Altima (without wheel alignment), I drove about 4500 miles. After that the tires were rotated and the back tires installed in front. I immediately noticed loud road noise, mechanic says it is uneven tread wear and I think - this is too much of a coincidence. So should they have done the alignment when they replaced the rear shock absorbers or not?

I walked out with an estimate for $1250 to replace rear shocks that "failed", 3 tires that need replacing because of the shocks and an alignment. I have 92K miles on my Prius. Is it normal for shocks to wear out with 90K miles on them?
View 5 RepliesI own a 05 XLT Screw 4x4. Dual rear shock set up? My truck drops in the rear when I load up my quads and attach my trailer. I could do an add a leaf but thought a dual shock setup might look and perform better. I am going to add traction bars also because I get a lot of hop when the bed is empty and I'm in the sand.

Now wanna know what are my options can I change just the one rear side which is leaking and do I have to put the oem or can I put anything aftermarket.
View 14 RepliesSo, in changing a rotor today, I noticed the entire top bolt of my shock absorber (rear left) was sheared in half. I researched replacements and saw the staggering price tag. In 8 years with this car (2003 Gx470) I've never once changed the shock mode from sport to comfort or vice versa. Am I correct in assuming that I can by a decent aftermarket shock as a replacement and not hook up the electronics and only lose the ability to adjust the shock from the cabin? I will still retain the ability to raise or lower the car, correct? If so, what is a decent and affordable shock to purchase? Also, while I am in there, are there any recommended bushings or other things to replace to cut down on squeaking and other noises?
View 2 RepliesMy wife drove her new (2000 miles) Prius 4 home (300 miles) with a rattle from the left rear. Dealers were totally unresponsive - either put me on voice mail or said I had to wait a week for an appointment. The third dealer I called said I could bring it in and they might take a look at it. Five days later I have a new shock and a bill for the rental car. Not what I expected from Toyota! I noted that one other person on Priuschat had a problem with a loose rear shock.

View 19 RepliesSo my rear and front toe is off and is causing inside wear on the rear tire. I want to add a shim to fix it as the rear axle would be too costly to change.
Also how much would I need to fix the rear? I'll be getting them aligned after the rear is fixed.
I noticed that in my car the rear spoiler is not flush with the body of the car, Is there any way to adjust it? By looking at it very briefly it seems that the rear hatch will need to sit lower for better alignment.
View 1 RepliesI shimmed my prius this weekend to remove about 0.44 degrees of positive out of 0.60 theoretically bringing total toe down to .16.
The shims add about 3.8 mm between the hub and the suspension. The bolts are M10s I believe with 12 mm heads. There are 4 bolts per hub. I often take off ramps at a pretty good clip rather than braking when going from one freeway to another. The 4 bolts already seem like they wouldn't be enough to hold the hubs on.
When adding the shims, it moves the hub further away resulting in a little more torque at the mating surface on the opposite side of steering. Also, the bolts just barely make it to the last thread.
Took my 2004 Honda CRV 2W Drive to my local dealer for the 90K maintenance. There they recommended for me to replace the front shocks strut assembly--not quite remembering the reason but they told me that it needs to get done. Before I get the work done, I am trying to find as much info on what next steps to take.

View 11 RepliesDaughters explorer sport trac, needed a neutral safety switch and a fuse ( no reverse lights),, I have replaced both but now the shifter doesn't line up right.
P is now reverse, and cant get all the way over to 1 with out holding it...
the two marks in the switch line up for neutral.... and switch is keyed to shaft...
how do i now re align this so shift indicator and transmission are on the same page again??
I am guessing move tranny arm all the way to the rear of the truck position and put shifter in P....then put cable back on arm.... but doesn't seem to work ....
I found out the rear driver's side shock was leaking oil after I jacked up the car to take a look at exhaust options for the car. 3 of the 4 shock are clean and show no signs of oil.
Is this a defective shock or a pothole destroyed it?
