I just got new tires and had an alignment done. The values for the rear were off ... not too much ... but the tech said the rear suspension of the Prius isn't adjustable.

View 13 RepliesSo my rear and front toe is off and is causing inside wear on the rear tire. I want to add a shim to fix it as the rear axle would be too costly to change.
Also how much would I need to fix the rear? I'll be getting them aligned after the rear is fixed.
I noticed that in my car the rear spoiler is not flush with the body of the car, Is there any way to adjust it? By looking at it very briefly it seems that the rear hatch will need to sit lower for better alignment.
View 1 RepliesI shimmed my prius this weekend to remove about 0.44 degrees of positive out of 0.60 theoretically bringing total toe down to .16.
The shims add about 3.8 mm between the hub and the suspension. The bolts are M10s I believe with 12 mm heads. There are 4 bolts per hub. I often take off ramps at a pretty good clip rather than braking when going from one freeway to another. The 4 bolts already seem like they wouldn't be enough to hold the hubs on.
When adding the shims, it moves the hub further away resulting in a little more torque at the mating surface on the opposite side of steering. Also, the bolts just barely make it to the last thread.
So my strut mounts are shot and I wanted to add adjustable rear control arms to eliminate tire wear. So thinking of going with Bilstein HD's with the stock springs. Oh and BTW want to keep stock ride height since it is my daily. The only option I would consider for springs would be the euro version of the stock springs.

The rear wiper is not oriented correctly as I see other Prius's with the rear wiper arm facing upwards and mine is horizontal. When I use the rear wiper it goes down and across the rear hatchback area. I tried to gently move the wiper arm to vertical but it would not budge. Looks like I will have to get access to where the arm is secured so I can re-orient it. This tricky?
View 6 RepliesI'm a filmmaker and I want to be able to turn on the back up camera on the dash while driving forward, aim another video camera at it and record. (while I'm sitting in the passenger seat of course). Better yet - is there a way to tap into the backup cam so I can record directly from that while driving forward? Is there a 'finger dance' I can do to allow this and override the fact that it automatically shuts off while in Drive? I have a 2007 (2nd gen Prius)...
View 7 RepliesWe have a 2007 Prius and have been very happy with it overall. The right rear tail light keeps burning out and we keep taking it back to the local Toyota dealer for replacement, but they have been very good about it. Though an annoyance, if that was the only problem we had I would not be here right now typing this.
Today my wife was driving and came to an intersection at a red light to make a right-hand turn. She braked coming into the turn and as she made the turn. What happened next scared her and is very concerning to us -
So on my wives Prius which is an 2007 the rear tires are wearing more greatly on the insides that the outsides and they are wearing evenly on both the rear left and rear right inside. So not one is more worn than the other..
The tires are heavily worn, with that said the car rides extremely bumpy to the point the entire car is shaking on the freeway at 75 mph or higher. So much so it induces motion sickness which is odd for me. So also besides the alignment question, what else could be causing the insane amount of bumpiness? I balanced and rotated them yesterday but that didn't solve the issue.
Are both necessary?
View 4 RepliesAnd I have coil overs, I'm not super low but pretty low and every time I get my alignment done they say they can't so anything about the rear having so much negative camber. And it is really eating up the inside sidewalls of my tires like crazy.

Anyway, I replaced my upper control arms when I replaced the suspension in '06 w/some ECS units. Since then I've run through some rear tires more quickly than than up front. It's been tolerable bc I don't drive it as much.
The last alignment, the tech said he got it close to spec, but not quite. The inside part of the rear tires is where the problem is.
If I replace the stock lower control arms solve the problem of the getting the rear alignment closer to spec? Thoughst?
I have a 2004 Camry and I got an alignment at Firestone they rep told me that my rear left camber alignment is off, my right camber alignment is is within range.
Actual :-2.3 Range -2.0.-0.5
He recommended I change my struts as Toyota does not specify rear camber adjustment. Is this normal on car with 160k on it ?. I have seen several chamber kits out there should I just get one and go somewhere else for them to realign it with the kit ?

Wheel alignment for ES350? I have negative camber on all four wheels (picture below has a view what it is).
Also I just made an appointment with mechanic, and he said on the phone that for car like that you can not do alignment with negative camber. He said that likely I have bad bearing or shock, or something else. I hope he is wrong..
I just picked up my new 2011 last night. Noticed today it looks like the corner of the rear bumper on the passenger side is not flush with the car and seems loose. Its not to noticeable but when compared with the driver side there is definitely a difference.
View 10 RepliesThe manual comes with R32 shows a seat lumbar control on the side but obviously not on R32. Is the lumbar support adjustable on R32? I remember when I first sit in the car I feel the seat is pretty tight (in a good way) but now not as tight, maybe I am too used to it now.
