I have a new-to-me 2007 GX470 with 150k miles. Clunk sound doesn't always happen and is not that bad. It usually happens when I stop quickly, not on a gradual stop. 150k service was done 2k miles ago, so it might have been greased.
Will this cause any issues with the vehicle if drive shaft is not replaced? Is it just annoying? Is there any chance that Lexus will fix on a vehicle with 150k miles?
I have been reading some mixed reviews here in regards to the "CLUNK". I am referring to that feeling as if hit from behind shortly after coming to a stop. Some are saying it still exists in the 2005 while others are implying that it has been resolved.
Just to be perfectly clear.... Has experienced this "Clunk" in a 2005 GX?
I drive a 2006 F-150. I'm new to the forum and already found some good info on the annoying tick coming from my 5.4.
I have recently purchased a ski boat and lately when towing my boat and coming to a stop I feel as light movement coming from the rear of the truck that feels like something slides forward slightly. When I accelerate "it" slides back and if I accelerate quickly, "it" makes a loud clank noise.
I have ruled out hitch, receiver, ball, anything from the boat/trailer etc... It is coming from the transfer case/ spare tire area under the truck and it only appears to do it (or to where it is noticeable) while towing the boat.
My 2005 GX (108k miles) seems to be in great shape. When i replaced the front CV boots i looked carefully at all suspension components and i did not see anything damaged, loose or suspicious.
However, when the truck is SLOWLY moving (entering into my driveway or getting out of parking spot), and when i turn the steering wheel ALL THE WAY to the right, i hear and almost feel a single semi-loud clunk from under the car. I am 99% sure it is related to the steering movement. When the car drives straight or when i am making smaller turns on the street, there is no clunk, noise or vibration at all. I haven't noticed it during U-turns yet, but maybe i haven't paid enough attention. Something must be loose or worn out. The clunk is very obvious when it happens.
Where this could be coming from? Any well known weak components in the front suspension setup that may need attention at 108k miles? I am thinking about tie rod ends or sway bar links but i am not sure if a bad tie rod / link would produce such "clunk" when turning all the way.
Common issues that arise with GX470. From what I know I will list the first 2 that I know of:
1) Clunk sound from driveshaft
2) dashboard cracking
My 06 FX4 has 106k it started acting up shifting last week and its driving me crazy not knowing what part to change. Sometimes when I take off slowly from a dead stop it shifts really quickly into o/d by the time I am at 15-20mph. Doesn't matter far as hot/cold but if i accelerate quickly it doesn't seem to do it. I have read it could be the Shift solenoid or TPS.
View 2 RepliesWe have a 1999 4Runner with the V6 engine, auto tranny, and 230k miles. For going on a year now the engine will occasionally stall when at idle…usually happening at stop lights. The engine starts right back up. This may occur once every other month or once a week for several weeks. Stalling has occurred with warm engine and cold engine, during raining/damp period and when dry. Never has the check engine light come on or has it generated fault codes. Dealer can’t find anything wrong. We’ve replaced Air Idle Control Sensor (OEM), Throttle Position Sensor, Mass Airflow Sensor, and cleaned the throttle body. Plug wires and timing belt were replaced a couple of years ago. Other than this one issue it runs great. What to try next.
View 4 Replies The car is manual, 95.000 KM. The problem is everytime i put the car in gear and start rolling, I hear a loud thump/clunk coming from the underside of the engine.
The only mods on the car are intake, a tune and a dog bone insert. The clanking is way more apparent when i'm in reverse. Whether i'm backing out of my uphill driveway or on a flat surface, EVERYTIME the car is at a dead stop and I give it throttle, something clanks...
My mechanic had lifted the car. He thought it might have been suspension, but he ruled that out. He believes that it is in fact the dog bone insert that is faulty. Upon further inspection, the red insert (from USP I believe) had cracked. although the insert was visibly broken (I've had it for barely 5000 km's, WTF) I'm not entirely sure that that is what's making the clunking sound because that sound was there from before I had put the dog bone insert in place.
I have a 2012 Santa FE 2.4L, I have a knocking sound happening in my front passenger side once I go over bumps. Would like some info on the different parts that can cause this.

It seems to also be there when accelerating too and the car is also seem to be vibrating when moving at lower speeds. Today i noticed something else. I parked the car and took the key out. I went to the side of the car and slowly rocked it back and forth and started to hear this clunk sound. I have uploaded it to youtube and can be found here [URL].... . After hearing the sound, I decided to take the driver wheel off and noticed it makes the same sound when i move the tires. It seems to be coming from the CV joint, where it connects to the transmission. why would a car make that clunk sound with the car/key off and swayed back and fourth? does this seem like a CV joint issue or something related to the transmission.
View 3 RepliesMy 2002 F-150 with the 5.4 has an issue with a high rev (1000 RPM for a few seconds) while at a stop sign, along with a clunking/banging sound coming from under the truck. This is when I have the brake mashed all the way, and this all happens at the same time, almost every time I come to a stop at a stop sign or light. I do have an intake manifold leak, which i have recently determined, but I do not know if the high rev at a stop sign has to do with the manifold leak or to do with the transmission sounding thump I hear. Could this be a torque converter not unlocking, and then suddenly unlocking? Because after the thump sound, the RPM's go down to around 650 from 1000 every time.

As I accelerate normal from a stop, I , for one feel bump-clunk sensation, as if I have a bad u joint. 2nd I now have a "whip whip whip" whirring sound, sound character speeds up as I speed up.
I hope the sound is the brakes, because I know they are getting down to the end of their life.
Lexus IS350 ... Noticed a reasonably quiet clunk from the car when coming to a stop? It happens when the transmission automatically shifts into 1st gear with your foot on the brakes.
I noticed that in my car, you can feel a slight lurch forward as the transmission downshifts into first when approaching a stop sign. If I am barely on the brakes, I feel the slight lurch but don't hear anything. Under normal braking, that slight lurch happens along with a clunk. You wouldn't hear it with the radio on, but it's very repeatable and with the windows down you can hear it as well coming from under the car somewhere.
Slight clunk feeling from dead stop under more aggressive acceleration...my 14 250 AWD has done this on 3 or 4 occasions.

Now just today, while backing up my driveway, as soon as I started the reverse motion, I heard the same clunk. Sounds like metal to metal and comes from the rear of the truck.

I have 3 sound bytes/videos. Probably best to listen with headphones or decent speakers to get the full effect. The issue has gotten worse. Seems to be worse especially in the a.m. when cold.
When I accelerate fairly quickly, not wide open, there is a weird noise of whooshing air, his or escaping air etc. It could be described as some type of whirring noise too.
I can let off the throttle and push slowly into it and it goes again. Only happens under a decent amount of engine load. Doesn't seem to matter what gear as long as it is under the same type of engine load.
It is coming from the passenger side engine bay as far as I can tell since I'm driving.

I am the new owner of a 2007 Lexus GS350 and I absolutely love the car. 70k miles and it has been well taken care of by the previous two owners. The question I have is regarding a strange subtle jerk when coming to a stop. This seems to be the most intense with a medium force stop but I can also feel it when coasting to a stop. It happens frequently and sometimes is less harsh than other times. I noticed it right after picking up the vehicle but I didn't really pay much attention. After driving the car for 2 months I notice it more. The jerk seems to be happening during downshifting and is at about 15 mph every time. It's not extreme but passengers typically notice it if I point it out. Then they can feel it every time it happens. The other shifts are smooth including accelerating and so forth. I reset the ECU (pulled the ETC and EFI2 Fuses) about two weeks ago but haven't noticed a difference in shifting.

View 6 Replies"Clunk" noise when shifting from P or R to D happening to me right now with my '06 GS300. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happened all day yesterday and sounded pretty serious. Took it into the dealer today, still under warranty, and of course it wasn't happening. Tech said he will keep it overnight, let it cool down, and check transmission fluid level which could be the issue. If that isn't the issue they said it could just be a "normal" sound. My wifes 2006 Sequoia shifts smoother and doesn't make a sound when you go from P or R to D ... Don't tell me it is the break pads releasing either because that is just as far fetched as the normal theory.
