I am getting a strange chirping sound from the engine (during idle) on my 7 month old RX350..Is this pretty common ... experienced a strange howling engine sound when you accelerate the car( E.g. when you are going at 30 mph and want to speed to 60 mph), I can hear this when I turn off all the noise (radio) and drive on a quiet street...

I also noticed that it's definitely rougher when the AC is on. As soon as I take my foot of the break and press the gas, the "roughness" goes away..
View 10 RepliesI have a chirping/ squeaking sound in the engine extremely noticeable on idle. It's not the actual belt because it continues the noise much after the car is heated up. Have no clue what it is, I have 145000 miles. Also when running the engine hard notice a hissing sound sort of like turbo at high rpms especially with ac on high.

View 8 RepliesMy 2013 RX350 (all-wheel) has a super annoying droning sound when pressing gas pedal - it is not the smooth-humming but a kind of low cat-purring sound that is more pronounced when in low RPMs. The dealership can't tell the problem, Lexus Field Specialist acknowledged the sound and said I am not the first one to complain about it, but he doesn't think anything wrong with it. According to him, this is not the sound of the engine, but the exhaustion system. My overall experience with RX350 is not as good as I had expected: it is nosier than my previous highlander, it is also nosier than my wife's Odyssey.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 RX350 and recently noticed rattling sound coming from inside the glove compartment.
I think it comes from the plastic cover of the aircon filter at the back of the glove compartment. This cover seems bit loose even when installed back properly and the vibration (especially when driving over uneven roads) is causing the rattling sound.
I know it's a minor problem but the rattling sound can get irritating at times. My temporary fix is to push back the heavy owner's manual on that cover to prevent vibration.
Is there a way to increase the volume of the buzz sound when locking the door with the remote? It has been bothering me for a while. Every time I lock the door with a remote as I am walking away from the car, I need to listen very carefully for the almost inaudible buzz sound so I am sure the door is locked. I searched in the settings but didn't find where it can be changed.
BTW, it is a 2014 RX350.
First time Lexus and RX350 owner. Not familiar with the new type of shift gear. When I shifted the gear from Park to Reverse straight down instead of moving to the right first, the vehicle would jerk and make a thud sound. Not sure if this would have damaged anything. After I have get used to moving the gear to the right first before shifting down, I would still sometimes have this jerk/thud. But if I do the whole shift movement (shift the right first) real quick then the chance of getting the jerk/thud is much less. Is it a manufacture defect or just I am not doing it properly?
View 5 RepliesRecently when starting RX350 the check engine light and Check AWD lights went on. Driving the car for a short distance it idled very roughly and had no power (could not exceed 50mph). Drove home, shut car off, and restarted within 5 minutes. All lights went out, and car performed well. No problems since....what could have caused this problem?
View 3 RepliesI just purchased an l/certified 2013 RX 350 (34K miles) this past weekend. I did not notice these issues on my test drive. I've started to notice that when taking my foot off the gas pedal (while not resting near the break pedal) the vehicle goes through a series of easy coasts and then some resistance (as if using an engine as break on a truck with a manual t,) then returning to a smooth easy coast.
I've also noticed that when accelerating at a slow speed from stop (I'm in traffic) there is a bit of a hesitation, like turbo lag, yet this has no turbo. The lag seems to be there even if I want to accelerate aggressively.
I hate to get tied up with a dealer service department already.... "Cant duplicate," or "that is normal operation," or "Computer codes check out." Looking for reinforcing information so I don't have to take it in once a month for an unknown amount of time.
Of our three other cars (2015 Prius, 2002 Nissan Altima, and (pre-tran fail) 2002 honda odyssey) none experience anything like this.
Our household is dumping a 2002 honda odyssey for repeated transmission failures never covered with goodwill. All service was at a h dealership and manufacturer schedule was followed. I'm already sensitive to the manufacturer/dealer relationship.
We have a 2010 RX350. It makes a noise at a strange time. While in the garage with the engine off sometimes it makes a humming noise. The noise can last up to five minutes. It sounds like it could be coming from the back but not positive. The car has not been operated for several hours when the noise occurs. If I start the engine and immediately cut it off the noise goes away. I know that it will never do this if I take it to the Lexus dealership.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2011 bought new. The car has had every service and recommended service at the original Lexus dealer Sithtown Lexus on Long Island. The car developed a tapping noise at about 30,000 miles. Every service I tell the service dept and they always tell me its normal? Problem is the noise doesn't go away after the car is warmed up. It is always there no matter how much I drive it. I have heard some members say the dealers say its the fuel injectors making noise but this seems to be slowly getting louder . The car has 53000 miles now and I am getting the impression the dealer IE Lexus is trying to avoid a major engine job until after the 60000 mile engine warranty is up. How do I get this taken care of , they seem to be adamant about it being normal.
View 7 RepliesMy wife's 2010 RX350 with 75K miles on it , the check Engine Light came up with code P0303 (cylinder misfire). Since the warranty is out already so I went to my mechanic and had the spark plugs and the back ignition coils replaced. After a week, the light came back on. So I went to the dealership and they said the engine needs to be taken apart because of low compression and valves could have carbon build up already.
View 11 RepliesI just purchased a 2010 RX 350, has only 7k miles on it. Really, really nice car. I noticed for the first time yesterday the engine ticking/knocking/rattling/whatever you want to call it sound when starting up on a cold start. It definitely goes away after about 5-10 minutes of running.
Most people seem to accept this as "normal". They hear it, live with it, and they never have any problems. I am a new Lexus owner, so I have trouble digesting that such a luxury vehicle with so few miles would have a "normal" engine knocking sound at 7,000 miles.
A few people posted in other places that this is indeed an issue, and should not be happening. There is a a Toyota (Lexus) service bulletin that I didn't get the details on, it is LSB-0028-09. LEXUS: ENGINE TICKING NOISE AND/OR MIL ON P0014, P0015, P0024, P0025, P0017, OR P0018. ENGINE MECHANICAL. *PE
Looking for details on this service bulletin, and if it does indeed apply to the engine knocking sound.

What is this metal on metal noise...you hear it the best around the 7-12 second mark...it is especially loud on cold start in the morning when you put the car in "drive" but don't move the car forward. It also is prevalent on hot days when you park the car outside and just start the car. The sound gets louder when you turn on the a/c during the hot day.

2008 lexus es350 -- chirping noise from serpentine belt area. Chirping starts after a bit of driving. Got belt replaced, mechanic says it is water pump (as he says he saw marking and could be a prior leak), but I don't want to do this trial and error.
I got belt replaced by the mechanic who said wold fix the problem but did not. Should I replace water pump as it is expense on es350 and only to have chirping noise not fixed as it could be something else like alignment or idler pulley etc.
I have a 2002 sc430 with 120000 miles, great car no problems just maintenance. For the last couple of days I heard a chirping sound as I slowed down to a stop. The only thing I could think was the brakes, but I just changed the front and rear pads March 2011. So today I looked at the front brakes and saw the pads at about 50% and everything else looked good. Then went to the rear and saw something I thought was odd...take a look at the picture.... The last time I changed the pads I don't recall having this problem. See the red arrow, one of the pads is worn almost completely down and the circle shows a lip on both pads??? I checked the caliper pistons and they work fine, the pin that hold the pads is not bent and the clips are fine.
View 4 Replies2008 ES350 with 170k miles. My wife drives the car almost exclusively but we went on a road trip and I had the opportunity to drive it for a few hours.
I noticed at idle there is a chirping sounds from the belt area like it could be a water pump or another pulley going out.
Other data points:
At speeds over 80mph I feed a vibration in the steering wheel. we are 1k over getting the tires rotated so that may clear this issue up.
low speed in a parking lot I had the wheel at full lock turning and it felt like it "slipped" and it made a noise. This made me think the power steering pump could be what is going out.
I need to check the fluid levels tonight and see if either is leaking ( there is nothing on the garage floor)
Are there any good DIY's for a waterpump or power steering pump replacement? Once I diagnose the problem I would like to fix it myself.
Are these common issues with the ES350?
I find it a little concerning that I can actually drive off in our RX350 without the key fob in it. I know there is a warning on the dash, but that doesn't stop someone from stealing it. May be a park lock out would be a better solution.
View 14 RepliesLooking for a new luxury SUV - had a 2001 RX-300 and put 230,000 miles on it and gave it to my daughter. The local Lexus dealer seems to have only AWD models and is not real useful in getting a FWD stripper (don't want nav, etc.) The local Acura dealer has several base MDX's in FWD and seems more useful. Drove both AWD versions and thought the Acura was much better handler and better road feel. Am leaning towards Acura but don't know about service costs and long term reliability - we will keep either car for 12 years probably. What say you? Doesn't seem to be a decent Acura MDX forum out there.
