The last couple of days when I started the car it didn't turn over immediately as it normally does. Now when I turn the key the dash symbols all come on; radio, lights, etc work fine. I hear a strange close sound like lite weight metal fluttering which continues as long as the key is turned to start. But nothing beyond that.
View 4 RepliesJust picked up a pretty nice 2002 sc430 today. On the drive home I realized all the dash backLights are not lighting up. However the The radio and climate control unit do have a dim backlight working but is stuck at one level of illumination.
Like most cars the all dash lights should be very bright during the day and when you turn on the headlights they should all Dim down. ..... Not on this SC.
Makes no difference what position the headlight switch is in....Nothing changes or lights up

The little Dimmer does nothing either when turned all the way one way or the other.
Fuses? I am not sure what to try.
I just installed a new set of OEM LED taillights on my 02' sc430 bought the kit etc but I cannot get the dash rear taillight sensor to turn off. I called the local lexus dealer thinking they might have to reset it and spoke to the lead mechanic and he said i would need to rewire the lights.
View 4 RepliesGot an '02 here. This noise started to appear recently. When I turn the key to put electricity on (without starting the car), I hear this electric motor-like sound, similar to power window sound, coming thru the dash area, and it can also be heard outside the car coming from somewhere in or near the engine compartment or in front of the dash/windshield area. Could this be one of the servo that operates the AC vents? or its something else?
View 1 RepliesI had to replace the ECU on my 2002 sc430. Although the original ECU was malfunctioningthe car started and was drivable (but the speedometer and odometer did not work, nor did the power steering). Following installing a used ECU, the car will now not start. I reset the ECU following the directions posted by others in this forum (both the gas pedal method and removing the fuses), but that has not fixed the problem. Do I need to have the dealer sync the key to the new ECU?

Went to start her up today. As I began to turn it over--nearly immediately--I heard what can only be described as a thump followed by whirring. (I'd like to believe the thump was related but cannot be certain). Tried to start again, only very briefly, and all I could hear is that "whirring". It will not turn over and I'm hoping that neither attempt damaged anything.
If I had to guess, I'd say the timing belt snapped immediately as the starter was beginning to turn over the engine. Is there a relatively quick way to diagnosis this without potentially damaging the engine any further? An access port/hole or cover I can see through or remove to determine if the belt is snapped? What else could it be? Starter solenoid failure? That would certainly be easier to diagnose.
Got in the car today, 2002 SC430, turned the key, car cranked and cranked but no start. I'm guessing I'm not getting fuel. How do I troubleshoot?
View 6 RepliesI have had my '02 SC since 2007 and frequently when I turn the key to start, I hear an instantaneous "electronic click" sound. I have ignored it and no service person has ever mentioned it, nor have I requested a Lexus diagnosis.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2002 Subaru Outback Wagon. In May this year the OEM battery finally wore out, I was feeling poor so I bought a used battery from the local auto parts store. 2 months later, one day my car started chugging like it was having trouble starting and sounded like the battery was dying but then did start. Later that day it wouldn't start at all. Wouldn't turn over at all, but dash lights came on with key turn. Tried to jump it, wouldn't jump start. I bought a refurbed starter, had it put it, car starts.
A week later the same thing happened. Won't jump, no turn over, dash lights on when key turn. Had the battery tested, it was "good". Had the starter pulled, it was bad, put another refurbed starter in. Also replaced cables to the battery, and the clamp things that go on the cables to the battery. A week later, same thing, won't turn over, dash lights on with key turn. I was in the Costco parking lot when it happened this time, and got the tire mechanic to try to jump it. It jumped but was chugging like crazy and smoke came out of somewhere. The mechanic said he really thought it was a bad battery, that it sounded like the motor was trying to run off the alternator. I bought a new battery from Costco, and returned the used one to the parts store. When the used one was taken out, the mechanic said he could smell battery acid and it might have had a bad cell.
Now, the car will start when the engine is cold, but when I drive somewhere and it gets nice and hot (I live in Florida), it will not start again unless it is completely cold, or I get a jump. At least it will jump start now without a problem. I have had a mechanic use his little tool to check for computer codes, and of course there are none. I need to solve it not starting at all unless it is stone cold. My question is, what do you think is wrong?
I have a 2007 with the red triangle & yellow ((!)) on, the symbols return after 1 minute of resetting aux battery", where I should start ?
View 7 RepliesI had the dealer disable the beep in the "R" reverse position soon after I got my Prius. This worked great. After about a week, however, I now notice that the "R" symbol blinks whenever I am in the "R" position.
Also, when pushing the start button, the dash only showed the warning symbol and TRAC symbol for a couple of seconds and then went out. Recently, however, 8-10 warning symbols come on in the right part of the screen and then go out. Why this suddenly comes on?
for the past 2 years (ever since putting in a new battery) my Saturn as been setting off a constant alarm without the presence of the warning symbols on the dash. You know when you leave the keys in the ignition, and open the door and get that annoying klaxon alarm? that's what my car does all the time. sometimes it goes off by itself, but you usually have to turn off the car and "reboot" it. There are never any warning symbols lit up when it does this, only the alarm. I took it to my mechanic and he said that there was nothing he could do, taking out the fuse for the beeping would somehow disable the car? I will soon take a shotgun to the fuse box if I can't find out how to take care of this problem.

I notice that the dash lights on the 04 are dim compared to the 07 even though the dash control switch is turned all the way up. Is this the nature of the car or is there a setting that can be adjusted through the computer?
I just got home from a 650 mile trip and I have pinpointed something I have been hearing for a while but couldn't figure it out. It's a very very faint rattle (something like the sound a hard drive makes) and it seemed to be coming from behind the dash. I experimented a little today and this is what I noticed.
It is actually coming from somewhere around the gas pedal and it only does it when you are neither accelerating or decelerating. In other words, when the engine is at equilibrium if that makes any sense. It's a tiny sound and I should just turn the radio on and forget it, but it's just one of those little things that bugs ya.
I have recently started to hear (at frequent intervals) a loud buzzing sound that can best be described as a phone vibrating/buzzing while its on a table. The sound happens every few minutes and is pretty annoying. It seems to be coming from around the navigation area or glove compartment - i cant pinpoint it. I turned off the radio and AC and the sound is still present. My Navigation Wood cover has been STUCK for a few months (doesn't come out and shut nor tilt) but not sure if that is the cause here. What can be causing this sound?
View 14 RepliesOther than checking the fuse and the valet switch, anything else to look for when the trunk will not open via the key or the dash switch? The car does make the beep when the key remote is pressed, but no open. Also, the top works fine. Gas door works fine. Manual release of trunk also works.
View 9 RepliesSqueaks, rattles and anything else that makes noise (other than the stereo and especially my wife) You can imagine my total horror when I went around a corner and I heard what sounded like a marble rolling through the roof or dash of the car. I've been able to replicate it a few times but I have to be cornering pretty hard to get it to do it. I have had 1/2 of the top apart.....3/4 of the dash apart, under the hood, in the glovebox and console as well as underneath the frame and I cannot for the life of me find the source of the noise.
View 4 RepliesHave had SC430 for over 10 years, 94000 miles. Have loud buzzer sound behind dash on startup or when key is turned to on position. The sound last 10-20 seconds and goes off. I have turned the AC off and tried different modes, no change. Everything seems to be working fine with the AC. Could this be a servo motor, the noise is not coming from the engine compartment. Any thoughts on problem and how to fix it. It makes this sound on every startup.
View 4 RepliesSo I've recently noticed a small "bubble" forming on the passenger side of my dash above the glove box. What this can be from or what could have caused it. I'm hoping that it doesn't have anything to do the with the airbag recall.
