I just took the cover off my MIL's SC430. Been covered and locked for about 3 months. And this is what I found. ALL the leather is completely moldy. How this happened, what to do about it.
View 9 RepliesWeird seat heater issue on my 05 TAP/Ecru. Drivers side seat heater tends to fail intermittently after I apply leather care liquid on the seat. Does not happen on the passenger side. In winter, it failed for nearly a week before coming back to life. Yesterday it failed for the evening, then started working again today. Each time right after I applied leather care to the seats. Same amount applied to passenger and driver's seat and the passenger seat is always OK.
What is causing this ? Of course each time I go to the dealer, it is working fine !!!!
What is the purpose of the small rubber/plastic grommet at the bottom center of the wind deflector on our cars? Didn't realize mine was missing until service manager pointed it out.
View 14 RepliesIn my 2002 SC430: The interior rear view mirror has an indicator which does not light up when I press the auto button. It does not auto dim at night either. My headlights auto on/off so that daylight sensor works. Ive checked the mirror fuse but not sure if there's anything else causing this. Do these mirrors go bad, or has mine been broken ? What items do I check and or test to diagnose and repair the mirror?
View 2 Replies2002 sc 430--interior door latch cable is broken at the ball. Is it possible to (purchase and) replace just the cable or is the cable integrated with the locking mechanism, requiring replacement of the whole unit. Also, need to get just cable and/or integrated cable/lock mechanism.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2013 and after it sits for a day especially when it's warm the AC vents put out a moldy smell when starting. I've heard all the ideas of Turing off AC before shouting down engine but that shouldn't required for a Lexus of all cars. The dealer ran a refresh we thru the systems that worked for a few days but that was it. I've never had this problem with my 2004 RX. I also replaced the cabin filter with a charcoal based one. Seems a $45,000 vehicle shouldn't have this type of problem
View 14 RepliesMy wife's RX has had this weird, what I'd call a moldy/mildewy smell when you open the hatch. Cleaned everything out, check spare compartment for moisture, emptied out everything in the hatch, had the car detailed, and it's still there.
View 2 RepliesEvery time I get in and start up my GX it omits a moldy / musty smell out of the vents, it stinks! It goes away in a matter of seconds but it seems at every start up I get that smell again, it's kind of embarrassing.
View 14 RepliesI bought a new 2013 ES 300h. It only has 7K miles on it. When I first start it up for the day there is a moldy smell coming out of the vents for a few minutes. I've not taken it through any deep water.
Does it just need some new vent filters? What filters would be involved?
I want to use leatherique on my GS, but I'm afraid of clogging the perforations and somehow losing the cooled seat feature, if you don't know about leatherique you basically massage in one oil and leave it on a hot day, then come back and clean it off with the other cleaner oil that comes with it, I used it on my old 2GS and it worked unbelievable, made my car look almost factory new, got rid of most of the creases. Also what do you do for little things stuck in the perforations that won't vacuum out? I just don't wanna use some liquid cleaner and get it in the holes.

View 5 RepliesIn January we bought a 2010 RX 450H with less than 12,000 miles. But 2 months ago noticed a yellowing discoloring on the drivers leather in a few spots. It is the light gray leather. Also some flaking. I had a similar flaking with our 07 ES350. The dealer had their detailer clean the RX drivers leather but now notice it returning and several areas of the coloring flaking off. I've heard they treat any seat imperfections to prep for CPO sale. In fact it looked new when bought. The feel of the drivers leather is also different than all the other seats.
The car still has less than 20,000 miles. This is ridiculous.
Yesterday had 5000 miles/6 months service performed on 2015 3500 miles AWD RX-350. Right after leaving the dealer felt that steering wheel is too light. After some driving it returned to normal, but with very light shimmer during driving (40-50 ml/h) and stops . Today was backing up from garage and shaking was much more noticeable when reversed and parked, also it was some kind of (I think) engine roar. After that drove almost 30 miles with some steering wheel light shimmering, but no other issues.
Is it normal car behavior, and I'm just paranoid ? Or, if there is a potential problem, what could trigger it, and how it could be resolved?
I have a APR stage 2 chip that should normally be pushing 17psi. But today I noticed it has dropped to only about 15 psi at 3k rpm and at about 4.5k rpm it drops to about 10 psi. I also then noticed my oil filter was covered in oil and it was not leaking oil before today. I have a stock K03s turbo and I am really lost on what the problem could be. I want to check for boost leaks sometime this week, but I'm curious as to what else it could be.
View 2 RepliesTwice in the past few weeks my Sonata's windows were covered in moisture so bad I had to use paper towels on every window to be able to see out of it, even had to wipe up water dripping onto the dash board, took it back to the dealer and of course they couldn't find anything wrong. I purchased the car in April, now has 3,000 miles on it, I'm thinking that the change in the weather (cold nights) are why this has now shown up.
View 22 RepliesHad an incident this past weekend where the heat shields on my 2000 passat limited, v-6, 5-spd automatic, burst into flames unexpectedly during the course of a vacation drive in the mountains.
Contacted vw customer relations and their position is that since the vehicle has 148,000 miles on it, and it is out of warranty, it would not be unexpected for the heat shields to degrade and burn, so it is my problem for not having the heat shields properly maintained. Since when are heat shields a maintenance item?
I did not design them or choose the inappropriate materials to manufacture them. I would like to know and make vw aware that there is a very serious safety risk in the choice of materials they have used for heat shielding.
Am I wrong to expect that a heat shield would prevent fires, not cause them? Is it also wrong for me to expect vw to be responsible for the choice of materials they used, that now poses a serious risk to the safety of myself and others?
My 2016 Ford F-250 has 14,000 miles on it. I took it in for its second oil change today and came away with big problems. When the mechanic pulled the dipstick out he found it covered with a guncky dirt like material. He said he had never seen anything like it. He changed the oil and checked it again with more gunk coming out. I drove it to the nearest Ford house where a mechanic pulled the dipstick out and found the same thing. He said that he had never seen anything like it. Every time he pulled the dipstick out, it had more coated on it.

View 12 RepliesSo I thought the smell had been taken care of last year by the dealership (which I had to pay for) but that was not the case. As soon as the temp's outside started getting hot out, I notcied the mold smell starting to come back. Had the pollen filter replaced again this year at my expense and once again, the smell is still there. It happens after the car sits a while and only when I'm running outside air. It also happens as soon as you turn the air on whether its the A/C or just outside air. I plan on calling the dealership again today because to be honest, it's a bit embarassing when I have other people/clients in my car. Is there anything that I can do on my own to cure this?
View 1 RepliesIn the last week the I've noticed a moldy metallic smell when I turn my ac on. I've tired to come up with what I would liken it to. Almost as it the ac hadn't been turn own in months or it was almost out of freon. It's only a month old so I wonder what it might be.
