2K Metro has a hole in the gasoline tank fill tube, between the gas cap and tank. It doesn't leak only when putting gas in. Is this hard to change or patch? I just found a replacement fuel filler neck. Is this hard to change. Can you change it with gas in the tank if you're careful?
View 4 RepliesMy 2003 Expedition has started spraying fuel out of the fill tube whenever I fill the tank. It started 6-8 months ago. At first, I thought that maybe it was a fluke. It kept happening. I am so tired of getting fuel all over myself and my car. Not to mention the environmental impact of the fuel spill. This isn't just a little fuel dripping out of the tank and spilling on the ground. It's a full on projectile expulsion of fuel from the tank. What's happening and what I can do to fix the problem?
View 4 RepliesMy wife has a 2002 Accent with 117K miles on it. Fuel pump has never been replaced, but fuel filter and PCV valve changed about 5K miles ago.
The problem started when I added some BG44K fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank by way of a funnel. There was no discernable change in the car until my wife tried to fill up with gas...it kept clicking off. This has been going on for some time and it's pretty annoying.
So I do some research and learned that there could be charcoal pellets in the venting lines coming from the charcoal canister. I removed the charcoal canister from the car, and sure enough, there were a lot of little pellets in the hoses. I disconnected all the hoses and shook out all the pellets (not from the box, from the hoses) and connected everything back up. I went to the gas station and...nope, still clicking off every 2 seconds.
Then I removed the fuel filler neck from the car and inspected it. There were no restrictions in the main tube and no restrictions in the tube that runs up the main tube and loops back down the other side. [b]The blue/black check valve was a little clogged, so I blew it out with compressed air. I reinstalled it with the arrow pointing towards the charcoal box - meaning air and/or fuel can travel towards the canister only. Should the check valve be facing the other way? I assume it should, so gases can vent from the canister to the atmosphere - I don't want air/fuel going into the box, right?
I did find a restriction in one of the smaller hardlines that is connected to the fuel filler neck - it was more charcoal pellets. It was really clogged and I had a hard time removing them. At this point, there are no clogs, restrictions or charcoal pellets in any of the lines (including the charcoal canister), yet I still cannot properly fill the tank. Is the check valve now my only problem?
My wife told me today that the car "felt funny" and didn't "go when she stepped on the gas". Another symptom of the check valve?
I'm not entirely sure why adding fuel injector cleaner would have caused this problem.
Like a lot of others, my 2000 Elantra will just barely take gas at the pump. So I've done the research, I think I understand the problem, but when I tried to find the replacement filter, there seem to be 4 different parts ranging from $8 to $180. Which part should I order and order first, or should I just replace them all?
View 4 RepliesHyundai Accent 2001. Not long after I bought it (from a cowboy, obviously) I filled up my petrol tank to full and as I was pulling out of the petrol station the car stalled and wouldn't start.
This keeps happening every time I fill it up, I can just barely drive it as long as I keep my revs up, but if I start to slow down (when approaching traffic lights etc) the car just stalls.
My check engine light is on but a mechanic just said that was because of a sensor and I don't need to worry about it, I'm not very good with cars so didn't really think much of it.
I can also smell petrol sometimes and when I unscrew my cap on my tank it sometimes hisses (is this normal after driving 30 minutes?)
I have a 97 Geo Metro two door that just stalled on me one day driving up a hill. It was low on fuel and so I thought it might have just ran out of fuel. I put more fuel in it but it would not start. I had it towed back home and disconnected the hose out of the fuel pump to see if any fuel would spray out. It did not. This lead me to conclude the fuel pump is bad. I replaced the fuel pump but this still did not fix the problem. I had an electrical guy looking at it run a bypass wire to the fuel pump and it still did not work. His conclusion was that the ECM is bad. Does this sound like a logical conclusion?
View 3 RepliesSo my wife nailed a small spike buck and he when up under the truck. On his way back, his antlers hit the intercooler. One side tube was collapsed and the other collapsed but tore open. Has to repair one the tubes and, if so, with what. I was thinking I could pull the dent out with a pick and then put some sort of epoxy over it.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2002 F250 SD 4x4 w/5.4. I drained the front differential gear lube and refilled with 2 qts of gear lube as specified in my owners manual. Actually the manual says 1.8l / 3.8 pts. The fluid level is not up to the fill hole and if I stick my little finger in the hole I can barely get any on the tip of my finger. The owners manual says these capacities are for F250/350 w/ Dana 50 axle. It then says F350/450/550 capacity as 2.7l / 5.8 pts with a Dana 60 axle. My question is should the fluid level be up to the fill hole, as with the transfer case and rear end levels? Could I have a Dana 60 with the higher gear oil capacity in my F250? Whats the proper gear oil level?

It sends error codes for cylinders 1, 3, & 4 misfiring...I only have a 4 cylinder car - This only started Friday - a few days later and I'm really getting desperate. I screw my gas cap on, we check the connections...and we've read all kinds of random solutions that spread across the board.

View 1 RepliesMy '10 Golf TDI started leaking gasoline this morning, found smallish puddle in the garage. Looked underneath and there was definitely fuel on the underside of the tank. Moved the car into the driveway so the leaking fuel can evaporate.
Not sure what happened. I did hit something on the highway yesterday, a piece of tire from a semi went underneath the car. Of course it's been really hot 100+ deg lately. Maybe a fitting has come loose?
I'm not going to risk driving it, but can't do anything about it until monday. I'll call the shop and see what they recommend, tow or drive.
I have a Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo 1993, the gas Tank was leaking gas at the bottom of the tank, and I patched the leak with regular materials I found in Advance Auto Parts. But after few weeks, the gas tank leaked again. The question is it easy to remove the Fuel Tank and replace it with a new Fuel Tank? or how should I repair it without removing it, before I patched it. I am savvy enough to work in cars, but I never removed Fuel Tank before.
View 4 RepliesWe just purchased a used 2007 Elantra sedan. Noticed it was out of washer fluid when we got home. Went to fill it and as I was pouring in the washer fluid, I could hear it running onto garage floor.
When I looked underneath, I see there is a hole, 1 1/4" in diameter in the bottom of the tank. Obviously something was supposed to go in that hole. Low fluid sensor perhaps...even though I don't have a warning light indicator on my dash. The owners manual indicates that this light indicator on certain models where equipped.
Since my model is not equipped with this feature, is there a rubber plug or grommet that should plug up this hole?
Suppose a puncture hole were to inadvertently appear in the bottom of my gas tank? What would be some good ways to plug the hole? I'm thinking a fine thread stainless steel flat head screw that was screwed into a tapped hole with special glue/sealant and a washer would probably work.
You're probably catching on now... A non electric drill would probably be best to drill into the bottom of a full gas tank but all I have presently are battery powered and 100volt drills.
As title says, I cannot fill up tank without pump cutting off every few seconds.

View 19 RepliesThis has happened to me a couple of times...last night most recently. My gas gauge was flashing so I stopped for gas.
I was only able to pump 3-4 gallons, before the hose shut off and every attempt to continue filling after that would only go a second or two before the hose shut off again.
I was careful I though to allow fumes not to build up since I imagined that might be why the hose was shutting off.
I drove for a few miles and later that night stopped again at the same station and was able to fill up as expected.
Background: My 02 camry (155k) ran great but I noticed grease/oil on the front of the engine so I had a local mechanic take a look. He replaced the front valve cover gasket, timing belt, and while he was in there, the water pump. He made me take it to the dealer to reset/recalibrate the stability control sensor because after disconnecting the battery to perform the work my "VSC", "trac off" and check engine lights were on. I got it back along with a list of work they thought I needed (replace the rear valve cover gasket, dog bone engine mount, and a bunch of bs I don't need).
Problem: Quickly my check engine light is back on. I fill up gas and I can't get it to turn over. The owner of the shop gets it to turn over by gassing it a bunch while turning the key. My mechanic later tells me the check engine light is due to a bum gas cap. He replaces that and the dog bone mount. Next day check engine is back on AND the next time I get gas the same thing happens - it won't turn over until I gas it, then it turns over and stalls a few times until I really gas it and it turns over and takes. Every other time I try to start the car it turns over first try. Both times I filled up I wasn't close to running out of gas or anything. I don't think the gas cap or the fuel injectors went bad coincidentally the same day the dude had his hands in the engine.
