I took my 2000 Passat in and had the front suspension checked out. Everything is fine, tight and everything it should be but something is causing an annoying squeak when going over bumps. I assume its a bushing that has dried out between the rubber and metal. Is there a special lube I can spray on the bushings to stop the noise?

There are times I really go over slow but i still hear the noise.. It's a noise as if the tires are touching / rubbing against the front fender or something.. suqeak... View 1 RepliesGTI two weeks old. I've been listening to a loud chirp or two anytime I go over any bump or surface irregularity that seemed to be coming behind the passenger seat somewhere. So... I lowered the back seats and it disappeared. Put one seat up, still no squeak, Both seats up, no squeak. Worth trying if you have same problem.
View 10 RepliesI have 1, possible 2 motor mounts in my 2001 Volvo S-60 that kind of crunch/squeak when I go over small bumbs. Actually, the lower passenger side mount does the majority of the crunching noise. The upper mount (visible when you lift the hood) does it more so when its cold and the rubber contracts.
I'm not 100% sure the lower motor mount is what's making that crunching noise - but I'm pretty sure that's what it is as the suspension is in decent shape.
My question is, is it possible to change the lower motor mount myself? I've heard that the engine needs to be supported when doing this, but is that so when you need to only change one? Also, does it actually need to be changed or would any kind of lubricant will work?
The squeak I have been hearing over bumps is NOT from inside the car but is the fuel tank. If I lay under the car and pound on the tank it does it every time. How to fix?
View 18 RepliesMy wife has a 2006 GLS and the top strut mounts need replacing, they squeak during the winter when i go over speed bumps. Since i drive the vehicle more than her (i have a 92 accord that i drive to work daily lol) and i have to modify every car that i own. Since i will be taking the strut assembly apart to change out the mounts it gave me a good reason to purchase lowering springs ( coilovers are not in my budget).
View 1 RepliesI had the front struts replaced. I looked at the strut diagram and replaced most of the parts associated with the front struts. The rear shocks were also replaced. New brakes were installed on the front and rear. The front rotors were replaced. Mileage 124000 miles.
I thought this would might solve the squeaking when I went over a speed bump in the parking lot. It did not. How to fix the squeaking.

It has this annoying, faint squeek whenever i hit bumps in the road. Sort of sounds like bird chirps. I cannot reproduce it if I bounce on it while parked.
One rainy day I tried to show a friend and it would not make the sound it seemed. Therefore I think its exterior, although it almost sounds inside.
Today I sprayed down all the rubber joints under the front end with silicone spray. It still squeaked while driving afterwards.
I should note that a ford dealer claimed the ball joints were worn and needed to be replaced. Although, would a ball joint make bird chirp type squeaks while driving at most speeds (20mph - highway speeds)? It does not intensify or change at any particular speed.
My understanding is that a bad ball joint would grind when turning the wheel or clunk while traveling over speed bumps or something similar.

2011 F150 Screw FX4 drivers seat squeaks. Its in the bottom. It happens when you go over bumps. It doesn't do it all the time, but you can sometimes make it stop by moving the seat forward or back.

I told him he has the car for 1 working days.. if it's not cured by then I want a Loaner & he can keep the SE until such time as the Wind Noise" is cured...Overall the QC in his workshop leaves a little to be desired, having had a dealership in the UK I kno' what to look for in a workshop. Having told him that I will sit there and wait until my car is 100%, I think he got the message!
All cars have a few foibles, having run Jag's, Porches, Big Fords, Big Hyundai's & driven everything from the latest Maserati's to the cute Ford Ka's like life everything is a compromise. The Passat SE in my view is a 7.9 maybe 8 out of 10..(Pedals & Wind Noise are my gripes)

Experienced this issue on your Passat? If so what was done to fix it? In my case pressing buttons does not stop the noise, it will go on for almost 5 minutes. Also I have a problem with my navigation freezing up when I hit the he nav button, it will lock up sometimes for 5 to 15 minutes.
I don't know about all you other B6 owners, but my dash rattles and makes an annoying noise on every bump. The noise is similar to speakers crackling (bad description).

Purchased this car used with 64k miles on it. I am in the process of performing the 60k miles service items and going through typical replacement of worn parts.
I have noticed that my rear passenger brake drum assembly squeaks when I let off the brake pedal. Note that this is not noise when applying brake pressue, but after releasing the brakes. Additionally, the drum happens to be rusted very badly. It took a good amount of brute force to remove the drum in order to inspect the brake assembly. There was a lot of brake dust built up and I thought that cleaning that out would get rid of the noise.
I suspect it could be one of the springs but I cannot be for certain. The squeak does not occur when I release the parking brake.
I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0L V8. Recently it has developed a squeak in one of the pulley wheels. I think it is the middle one but it may be the alternator. My question is can I change these pulleys or do I even need to? My mechanic said its nothing to worry about but I am of the opinion that bad news does not get better with age. A squeak indicates that something is not right.

View 1 RepliesThe squeak is most pronounced when the brake pedal is released, but it still makes a quieter squeak when the pedal is depressed. I can't tell which side it is coming from; my guess is the middle of the rear or the left rear. I can't tell because I have to be in the car to release the brake (I guess I could tie a string around a brick and pull on it when I'm by the rear wheels). I should mention that all three of the belts are due for a change. Which part is causing the brake system squeak? The brakes work; replacing the squeaking part or parts is going to be lower on the project queue than the CD player/radio errors and replacing the belts, pulleys, etc. in the engine compartment (I've posted elsewhere on the forums about those issues).

High-pitch squeak from what sounds like the left/front wheel when making left turns and occasionally driving straight at low speeds after a left turn, usually while NOT applying the brakes. In fact, applying the brakes firmly stops the sound until I release the pedal. After that, sometimes it comes back immediately and sometimes not.
Two weeks ago I replaced the R/F cv axle and the sway bar link. Harder job than it should have been because I had a heck of a time getting the lower ball joint bolt free.
This past weekend, I replaced both front rotors because I was certain that one was warped since I was getting a very loud pulsing squeal only when braking. I also have had a tendency to over torque the lug nuts which I had read can cause warped rotors. I now use a torque wrench for that.
I've made sure that the rotor shield isn't touching anything and checked the pads for damage and unusual wear. Pads are at about 75%.
I just bought my first car, a 2000 saab 9-3 convertible (base model) a month or so ago. The car had been neglected for the last year or so and I have been spending the last few weeks fixing all its issues. This last weekend I replaced the rear shocks, font struts and the rotors and brake pads on all four wheels. After driving about 20 miles or so I started to notice a squeak coming from the front right wheel well and since has become more and more noticeable/pronounced.
Squeak description:-cyclically increases and decreases in volume with each rotation of the wheel
-the squeak is constant: squeak that gets louder at a certain point in each wheel rotation but is always a certain baseline volume as long as the wheel is turning
-the volume of the squeak is NOT AT ALL effected by braking (EXACT same noise driving as while braking) which leads me to think its has nothing to do with the pads or rotors
-HERE IS THE WEIRD ONE: the squeak disappears completely when driving in reverse!
-the squeak is about the pitch and sound of a cricket, only constant and Ii guess louder.
-the noise is unaffected by turning sharply to the right and left.
Additional details:- I had to use a gear puller to press the axle out of the wheel bearing (was stuck from rust). I hooked to the back of the wheel bearing ( what the lug nuts screw into ) and pressed on the center of the axle. Maybe this could have damaged it or the cv joint?-while I was switching that wheel's strut insert out, the carrier bearing leaked 1 (maybe 1 and a half) teaspoons of grey oil from the larger end of its boot and stretched out an inch or so from the weight of the hanging axle.
