Toyota - Tacoma :: 2000 - Transmission Squeak When Let Off The Accelerator

Jul 19, 2014

My 2000 Toyota Tacoma 5 speed sometimes makes a squeaking noise when I let off the accelerator, most noticeably at speeds of between 25-35mph. If I press on the accelerator, the squeaking stops...it seems like it has to be related to the transmission. I was told it may be the U joint...

Toyota - Tacoma :: 2005 - Accelerator Stuck When Comes To A Stop

I was a passenger in a pickup truck that seemed to have the accelerator stick as he came to a stop, and it tried to lurch forward suddenly and rear end the guy ahead of us. Truck is a 2005 Toyota Tacoma automatic trans. with the big 4 cylinder engine. It only has happened to him infrequently. Is this a common problem with this particular vehicle?

Toyota - Tacoma :: 1990 Transmission Won't Shift Into 1st When Clutch Depressed

So, I bought the truck used and everything about this truck is great minus the shifting difficulties in first. With the truck at a dead stop, the clutch depressed, and the shifter in neutral it can be near impossible to shift into 1st (it's possible with a lot - emphasis on a lot - of force). No grinding, clashing, knocking in the shift knob - it just wont go into gear. I can shift into 2nd-5th and reverse without too much difficulty. If the truck is in motion, once the vehicle gets between 2-5mph I can easily downshift into 1st. However, if I shift out of 1st and let the truck sit for, say, 5 seconds it is often very challenging to get the truck back into 1st.

I have tried to look up this problem online with limited success. What I found was it could be caused by:- something wrong with the clutch installation- a need to bleed the clutch (it's hydraulic and, although the reservoir is full, the fluid is a bit dirty)- perhaps a faulty clutch master cylinder- play in the clutch linkage- a broken spring in the pressure plate- a bearing that is starting to go out- worn synchros in 1st.

I am a machinist, not a mechanic, so it's hard for me to evaluate these ideas (beyond the cost associated with each). Given my limited knowledge of transmissions and my good mechanic friend's opinion, I think it's a broken spring in the pressure plate.

1990 Toyota Pickup 4x4 manual transmission. This is the original transmission in the truck, it has not been rebuilt (but has been maintained with regular fluid changes), and has a tad over 158,000 miles on it.

Toyota - Tacoma :: 2000 - Screeching At The End When Engine Catches On Cold Start

I bought a remfg denso starter for my 2000 toyota tacoma prerunner 3.4L V6. I spent hours without success trying to get the old starter out. Brought it to a shop and had the new one installed. When I do a cold start, there is a screech at the end when the engine catches that sounds exactly like starting a car that is already running. This happens on cold starts only. Warm starts work fine. Due to the fact that I bought this part separate, having to pay to have a new one installed again is annoying to say the least. I spent another 4 hours today trying to get it out without success. See YouTube link for video of the noise. It's actually the quietest one yet.

Tacoma :: Driver Seat Squeak During Driving / Dash Rattles In Morning

I going crazy over this mad squeak in the bottom and back portions of my driver's seat. Several squeaks happen during regular driving and cornering. I weigh 215, but come on!!

Also the dash rattles, especially in the morning. It's right on top, in the middle, above the controls. I can push down and make it stop. I figure, I gotta pull off the dash plates and look underneath, but I'll take easier alternatives.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Timing Belt Squeak Only Seems To Occur When In Motion And Let Off The Accelerator?

2.0 Jetta with AEG engine.

I've been plagued by a belt squeak for several months now that only seems to occur when I'm in motion and let off the accelerator. I'm thinking it's the timing belt so I took the top cover off to have a look. What I found is the belt is a bit off center on the top sprocket, although it doesn't look frayed and isn't hanging off the edge.

I found that the tensioner seems to wiggle slightly when I try moving it by hand. It doesn't look like it wobbles when the car is running, but I've never been able to see in the engine compartment when the squeak occurs. The belt also appears to have some shine on a line down the center. Pictures attached.

FWIW, I checked for play in pulleys on the aux belt and found none. What's everyone's opinion on the tensioner and the condition of the belt? The belt has 52,000 miles on it.

Toyota - Echo :: 2000 - Transmission Is Dead

My daughter has a 2000 (or 2001) Toyota Echo. It has 160,000 miles. The transmission is dead. On the other hand, the engine is in great shape. The mechanic in Georgia has given her a price of $2800. I'm trying to contact them to find out exactly what is going on. Her question: assuming is can be repaired, should she sink the money into it? She asked my opinion, but I'm not a car person by any means.

Toyota - Tacoma :: TRD Wheels Binding Up?

I have a 2013 Tacoma TRD with 18k miles, totally stock after driving awhile intermittently the front left wheel has been locking up like I tapped the brake just on that wheel. I've taken it to Toyota and they cant duplicate the problem. This last weekend I drove several hundred miles and the right side started doing it about two to three seconds after the left side for about five minutes then ran fine. It actually makes a chirping noise and slightly jerks the wheel in that direction. This has only happened going over 65mph. Since Toyota claims to have never seen this problem there basically telling Me to drive the truck until it gets worse. They checked the brakes and bearings out.

Toyota - Tacoma :: Hard Starting When Outside Air Is Hot

I've got a 1996 Tacoma - manual transmission, 4 cylinder, 2.7 liter engine with close to 170,000 miles on it - owned it for 10 years and 100,000 miles. Wonderful, great truck. Except.....

It has two starting problems and I can't seem to sort them out. The first is it's incredibly hard to start when the outside air is hot. Living in San Francisco, I usually forget about this problem until I drive to the central valley to visit my mom in August. Nothing like coming out of the rest stop, trying to start the engine and then having the feeling of doooh! again!. Seems to be worse when the outside air temp is over 85 or 90 degrees and the engine has been running than sits for 5-10 minutes. Cranks fine but won't catch. When it finally catches, it's like it's really slow to fire - can't quite explain it, but it's like it's doing a lot of thinking about actually running and has to talk itself into the idea. Can take 5-10 minutes to finally get it going, but usually 30 seconds to a minute. Always worried this'll be the time it doesn't want to go. My mechanic has looked at it a few times - but it's almost impossible to recreate in San Francisco when I get home due to the lack of warm days.

Second problem is trouble cold starting. When I come out in the morning, the engine takes two or three attempts to get it to start. Once it again, it cranks fine, but it's as if there's no fuel getting to the engine. If I just keep cranking, it won't fire but if I crank it, turn it off, crank it, turn it off and crank it again it'll always catch on the second or third go. Once the engine is at temp, it seems like less of a problem and easier starting. My mechanic say's "It's an old truck and it always starts eventually, so don't worry about it."

Toyota - Tacoma :: 2003 Pickup Won't Start When Hot?

I have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup. I bought it used in the spring of 2009. I drove it for a few months without any problems and one day this problem developed. It won't start on the first attempt. Or it will start and then immediately die. It will take two or three tries to get it running.

I took it in to my mechanic and he couldn't find anything wrong. I got a tune-up anyway and it drove like a champ. Until the next day when the problem came back. This persisted for a few weeks more and then went away.

This last summer it started happening again and continued up through October and went away again. I think the problem seems to happen when it's hot in the summer.

Toyota - Tacoma :: Shudder And Shaking Between 45 - 60 MPH At Various Revs

My 2002 Tacoma has recently been experiencing transmission trouble. Between 45-60 MPH at various revs, the truck begins to shudder and shake. The severity depends on how aggressively I accelerate. After several weeks of this, the check engine light came on. It has remained on since, except when it flashes if I accelerate too quickly. Throughout the shuddering, the revs remain constant. By roughly 60-70 mph, the truck runs smoothly again. In a (possibly) unrelated note, the parking brake indicator is lit almost constantly, particularly in wet or cold weather, although the brake is not engaged.

Toyota - Tacoma :: Consistent Shimmy Which Starts Between 47 And 55 Mph

My 1987 Toyota motorhome has an inconsistent shimmy which starts between 47 and 55 mph. This is a one ton chassis. I replaced the front tires and had them balanced. An independent mechanic said that everything was tight and could not find the problem. I took it to Toyota and they also said everything was tight. They checked steering, suspension, wheel bearings, brakes, and U joints. When the shimmy starts, accelerating or decelerating does not stop the shimmy. At one time I took it rapidly from 55mph down to a full stop. As I slowed the shimmy and thumping got more intense all the way down to a dead stop. The shimmy will start on smooth, even pavement and hitting bumps does NOT seem to start the shimmy. The RV has 75000 miles on it.
