View 1 RepliesThe engine of our VW Passat 2000 quit suddenly while driving home on freeway. Night. Rain. We put on the flasher lights as we were slowing while trying to move to the right lane. No shoulder as we we were on a bridge. Do not remember being rammed from behind. Had a new battery installed one month earlier after VW mechanics could find no reason for intermittent non-starting of car which we had been experiencing. They had run "fault codes".
View 14 RepliesI bought my Saturn Vue Hybrid and was driving for a week when I heard a sound while driving and suddenly the air conditioning quit working and started blowing hot air. I took it to Pep Boys and they told me to take it to a dealership. After three hours and 143 bucks I was told the A/C clutch appears to have come off of the compressor. I have noticed others have had this same issue in Hybrids. Is this a recall or what do I do since this repair is not a cheap one? Also, what other models have the same ac compressor/ clutch for purchasing?

It was driving fine for a few months after buying it and now all of a sudden it will just die while driving down the road. It will start and idle fine for hours but after about 15 minutes of driving it down the road it will just die without any kind of notification. It will start back up and run again after I let it sit for 15-20 minutes but will do it all over again but if I try starting it right after it dies, it will start and immediately die again. The only codes it is reading is the #1 spark plug is misfiring, but it has been that way since I bought the car.
I was told to clean the O2 sensor and throttle body, which I did and it ran fine for a few days but is back to dying randomly.
I have a 2001 Mercedes C320 and this has happened to me twice within the last two months. While driving, all of a sudden the lights on dash go out, including speedometer, odometer, gas gauge looks to be empty, heater/A/C off - the engine still running & the radio still working. I don't know about the headlights because it was during the day & I didn't think to check. Both times it was after 5:00 or on the weekend and my mechanic was closed. Next day after starting the car everything worked again. What could cause this?
View 2 RepliesOkay, I've had about enough of this car. Recently, while driving, the car quit accelerating completely. I believe the Check Engine light came on but I'm not sure; I was rather frustrated at that particular time. Anyways, I've heard a few different theories as to what it can be (i.e. coil park, fuel pump, pump relay, etc.) I've really not got a lot of money to work with at all and I'm on the verge of just selling it as is. The car now will not turn over. I recently replaced the battery and the lights and stereo, etc. work.
View 2 RepliesSo I am getting really sick of my 02 Prius...it only has 124k miles on it. So what is happening now is that I'll be driving when all of a sudden the car slips into a neutral mode. The engine revs when I hit the accelerator but produces no power. So I pull over, throw it in Park, turn the car off, and when I restart, it is back to normal.
These are the codes I'm getting...I know this slippage is only one of my problems..

My 02 6.8 v10 4x4 4.30 X has a big problem. I was driving on sand and all of the sudden it stopped and dies. Had no trans fluid and a dead battery. After paying $450 to get it off the beach i filled the trans fluid and got a jump and it runs. When put in gear wether in 4WD or not it does NOT move. Only when put in neutral and pulled ... red dot is pavement, blue is where i got to, star is where i broke down on the way out...smh

I was stopped at a light tonight making a left hand turn, I had the car in 1st gear and the my foot on the clutch. I slowly released the clutch and proceeded to make my left hand turn, halfway thru the turn the car made a noise that sounded like a pop (almost as if something came apart underneath the front end of the car and was loose) and then my manual transmission went into neutral. I slowly coasted to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed.
After I had coasted to the side, I tried putting the car into gear and the engine would rev up but the vehicle would not go forward or reverse. I tried all 5 gears and reverse. While sitting there the car would beep and the screen would say "hand brake on" and if I put the car into first this message would go off. The message only came on about 2 times in 5 minutes and never stayed on.
This started about 6 weeks ago. While sitting at a stop light the motor cut out. After some research I replaced the cps. Truck ran fine for about 3 weeks, then shut down again while pulling into the driveway of a store. Replaced the cps again (this time with a ford one). Ran fine for another 3 weeks, then shut down again on the freeway. No CEL on any occasion.
It's just like someone turned the key off. No rough idling at all. No smoke during starting or driving. When it shuts down, it will not start again for 20-30 minutes, no matter how many time you crank it. It will just turn over, no sputter. When it fires up again there is no air in the lines either, it runs like nothing happened.
I'm now thinking it might be a ipr issue...is there a way I can check myself or does it need to go to the mechanic? Or is it something completely different? This is my mother in laws daily driver, 178k. She does not drive on the freeway, 80% of the mileage is city driving. What could be going on?
I have a 2002 ford excursion. I know they have cali emissions. It runs fine then suddenly dies while driving. We've replaced the glow plug switch and relay. Neither one fixed the problem. we washed the motor a while back and it fried the programmer wiring.

View 3 RepliesOkay, So this has happened to me about five times now over the past year or so. I will be driving and my car will literally shut off. yesterday, I was driving on the freeway and was just cruising at 75mph when all of a sudden out of no where my car makes a big jolt and then the rpm's go from around 3k to 0. I have had this in the shop for this problem many times and no one can really seem to figure out what is wrong. when my car shuts off while im driving, the oil light comes on, traction control light comes on, as well as the battery light. What's even more weird about this problem is once the car stops, if i try to start it right away it wont fire up... It will just roll over. But. if I wait for a while the car starts and drives normal with all the lights off. This is not only annoying but very dangerous.
View 8 RepliesI was driving the car and suddenly started to vibrate and to give signs of stopping. The car doesn't have power now. I stopped the engine then start it. The idle rpm was instable and the engine stopped by himself. After i tryed harder to start, the engine started and the message Engine Fault Workshop and the sparking plug sensor apeared blinking.With that message and sensor notification on screen the car sounds normal and the rpm is idling..but after a restart the messages disappeared and the engine was again going wrong.
View 2 RepliesI posted a few days ago about my 99 Passat Wagon getting stuck in 1st and then suddenly (with a lurch) shifting into second after a few blocks of driving. After three weeks of investigation my mechanic, who is a VW certified mechanic, changed the Transmission Input Speed Sensor Assembly (automatic transmission) but a day later the problem continued.
I've now discovered that when I shake the gear shift between neutral and drive, it jumps into gear. I'm taking it back tomorrow (10-15-07). What is this?
When I called him last week after his repairs didn't work he started talking about replacing the entire transmission which scares the heck out of me. Every other gear seems fine after getting out of first and I really don't want to spend thousands of dollars because his diagnostic won't register the real problem.
I have a Passat 2.0 TSI 2008. Today after having lunch I tried to start the car to return to my office, but it didn't start. The lights dimmed like the power was draining. I tried again and no sign of a start and no lights this time. Called my insurance 24h assistance. They brought a spare battery and we connected it so as I could start the car. The started this time. Disconnected the spare battery, and left the motor running for 10 minutes. Instead of turning off the car, I decided to drive it a while to feel if everything was fine.
Well, the A/C turns on, but automatically turns off in a few seconds. The cruise control shows an exclamation sign and the horn is faint. When I stopped the car I noticed that the lights on the dash were kind of faint. Now, I am not sure I will manage to turn it on again. The battery seems to be on good shape. It has about 1,5 yr now and I could see that the indicator is green.
My Wife has informed me that her AC has suddenly quit working. There are no dash lights illuminated about this. I've been running 12 hour shifts this week but hope to check it out this weekend.
Are there any specific areas that I should look? And are there any AC problems that are common on a V8 Phaeton?
2010 full load Tiguan- perfect this a.m., but wife went to drive home & no blower fan. The dial lights up and moves as dial turned, but no fan at all.
Checked the fuses under dash, nothing burnt out. What am I missing??
my heat has suddenly quit woking getting hot. It has plenty of water, my heater hoses are not gettting hot.
View 14 RepliesI was going up a little grade a couple days ago and the engine suddenly quit, the temperature and oil light came on, the heat gauge buried on hot, and it threw a code. I pulled over and it was still idling so I made a U-turn but it was in limp mode and would only go about 10 MPH, so I made it home and put water in it so it's good now but it still says service engine soon. What is the code going to say and am going to have to pay to get rid of it. (the light). I have a new cap coming.
