I had the light and sound show pop up on the display of my 00 2.8 wagon this week. The ABS light, the brake light and occasionally the TC light combined with a big STOP in the display and Brake Failure.
I took it to my local and he did a quick scan and the ABS computer isn't communicating, indicating it's fried.
I start car today morning and I got message at display: STOP CAR BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE MANUAL. Message was gone after 3 seconds. Happened 3 times and I don`t see it again. I was still driving. Nothing is wrong. Brakes are working. What is it?
View 4 Replies2004 Passat 1.8t. recently been having this problem where when I turn at 30-40 mph he gets a chime, followed by a "stop" indication on the dash along with "brake failure" displayed.. also the brake symbol comes into view as well... I haven't connected any scanners to it to see what's going on, but I'm not sure if it will show anything.. The CEL isn't on either..

View 4 RepliesSo i just bought my 2003 passat wagone gls 1.8tand it has this "STOP" "BRAKE FAULT" coming up on the dash display and the ABS light and traction control light is on steady and the BRAKE light is flashing....a code was ran for the speed sensor and that was replaced but the light is still on....what could it be?????
View 10 RepliesWithin the past two weeks i've had a warning light that came on. it has come on about 4 times once 2 times within about 5 minutes. the warning comes up on the display screen on the dashboard and says STOP then brake failure then service manual. i've already taken it to a dealer to get it checked out and it came back with nothing. that was after the second time it happened. it has since happened again. it seems to only be happening on cold mornings. i don't know if this has and effect.
View 6 Replies2001 01 1.8t... Hoping this isn't a bad ABS module. When I bought the car, I was told it was a bad wheel sensor in the drivers side. But, the funny part about this is its not on all the time, sometimes it doesn't even come on and the dash is normal.
View 3 Replies2004 Passat GLS 1.8t 5 spd. This started last week. It is very inconsistent, but I seem to have it happen more when it's cold out. Sometimes I am coming to a stop, just leaving from one or could be doing 30-60 mph - truly no rhyme or reason. Anyway, the brake warning light flashes, the cluster beeps loudly 3 times and it says STOP on the instrument screen. It then changes to "brake fault" and then "service manual". After that cycle, everything goes away and it usually won't do it again. One time I had it do it 3 times back to back. Brakes work fine. I have good pad depth. Fluid looks like I should flush it, but level is fine. I scanned w VAG-COM and found no faults.

View 4 RepliesI just started getting this weird warning message on my dash console that says "STOP, STOP, Brake Failure, Service Manual" and the Brake and ABS lights turn on and then after a couple minutes it that all goes away.
I have checked the brake fluid and the fluid sensor and those are fine and i unhooked my battery and had it restart, but it still is giving me this message intermittently. My brakes work fine and i just had my brake pads done recently, so i know that isnt the problem.
Ok so this is the problem now, i went to check my fuses and pulled a #20 out to see if the cigarette lighter fuse was blown. Guess what? i start the car and all of a sudden the Electronic Parking brake failure kicked on. I tried to get the car out and now it won't get out of park! FML i heard that you can just unplug the battery for 15 min and that should reset the car but who knows... I got vw roadside coming to see what they can do it might need to get towed though
View 7 RepliesThe rear (right) brake light failed per the heads-up display and is confirmed not working on my FSI v8; nothing lights-up when I depress the brake pedal, but all lights are lit when the lights are on. The dealer is a 3hrs drive; thus I was wondering if this could be a common fuse issue that could be fixed sans going to the dealer?
View 2 RepliesI got a loud beep and MFI warning "Brake Light Failure" indicating my bulb was out in the right rear brake light. A friend was behind me, I called his cell phone and he said, yup, its out. Then after a few mins of driving, the warning went off and the brake light was again functioning. This has then happened to me twice more over the course of about a week. The brake light still works, but I get a failure and warning sporadically.

View 1 RepliesI have a 99 f450 4X4 I'm having brake problems. Without warning when I go to stop my peddle will go right to the floor and I can't stop, at other times I go to stop and the peddle is stiff and I have to put all I have in to it to stop. The abs light comes on and off occasionally at random but as the brake failure has become more and more frequent so has the abs light. Also my steering does seem a bit off, a little tough N jerky and the power steering pump is whining.
View 6 RepliesYesterday my car gave me a "STOP" alert on the display screen along with the error light for overheating (the red thermometer). But I had only driven a couple of blocks on a cold engine and the temperature gauge was dead cold. I opened the hood and everything was still there (nothing visible or smellable that looked like a problem) and found that I was able to restart the car and drive to work normally.
Same thing leaving work. The rest of the night the car was fine afterwards (those were engine restarts on a warm engine). I added a quart of water to the coolant and it seems to be okay today. The car has never gone over 190 on the temperature gauge, even driving in the desert or mountains with a/c on.
So that's my problem and possible solution. I was really surprised that the car was telling me to add a quart of water with the urgent "STOP" message. I thought that message was reserved for situations when the engine needed to be shut down immediately.
My mechanic looked at it last night and didn't find anything with the stored error messages that was useful.
Yesterday while driving my B5 Passat suddenly I heard 2 beeps and a STOP is displayed together with the ABS and brake warning lights just for a few seconds then turned to normal. I took the car to the VW service they've connected the car to the diagnostic system and said no fault. Since yesterday I saw this warning 1 more time. They recommended me to replace the break fluid tank where the fluid level sensor is mounted on, just for replacing the sensor since the fluid level is ok.
Today while the engine is running at idle I pulled out the break fluid sensor cable for 1 or 2 minutes but nothing is displayed and saw no break indication. What will be reason for this?
My brakes are working fine very smooth full of fluid. But for some reason sometimes when i take a hard right turn the stop brake fault pops up on my info screen. I live in nh and it is very cold/ ice too.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 passat 1.8T and the ABS light and brake light comes on and shortly after the "stop, break fault "message shows up. The warning does not come on every time I drive the car only sometimes. Brake fluid has been topped off and everything else seems fine. Is it a bad sensor somewhere? Something else maybe?
My check engine light is also on and the code is p0118. I replaced the engine coolant temperature sensor but I still get the code. Was there some secret way to replace it that I didn't know about? Something else I should check?
I have gotten a STOP Brake Fault Service Manual warning sign on my car for a couple days and now my car wont start... no ABS light is on...
