Passat (B5) :: Car Won't Get Signal From The Outdoor Ambient Temp Sensor

Feb 20, 2010

So I'm at a momentary loss for what's wrong. My wife's '02 Passat GLX is not getting a signal from the outdoor ambient temp sensor. Both her cluster and climate control display show "--" and I've replaced the sensor, cleaned the connector and done a brief outside inspection of the wiring from their to the engine bay harness which all looks fine... In the cars defense, were the second owners, it's been dealer maintained and is in immaculate condition so there is no oil soaked or ghetto hacked wiring, period..

Jeep - Suspension - Grandcherokee :: 2004 - Ambient (outside) Temp Sensor

The ambient (outside) temperature sensor on my 04 jeep grand cherokee is now stuck in the open position (it reads -40 constantly) after having body work done to it. Could this be a fuse, loose wires, or is the senor broken? Also could this have been damaged by the body shop?

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2015 - Code P0073 For Ambient Air Temp Sensor Circuit High

I'm excited to be a Powerstroke owner again! I had a 2000 with the 7.3L and since bought and now sold a Chevy 1500. Last week I bought a new 2015 6.7L. I am MORE than impressed and love the truck. Today I brought it to get the windows tinted. I have not had one issue with the truck since I have had it. When they finished with the windows, my check engine light was on. The shop I had it done it EXTREMELY reputable. They brought out their snap on scanner and pulled the code. p0073 for the ambient air temp sensor circuit high. Is this a coincidence that this came on after they got done, or could something they did while tinting the windows tripped this?

As I drove off down the road after determining I wasn't going to hurt the truck, the air temp sensor went from showing -40 to the actual temperature. What would cause this? I deleted the code when I got home with my actron, and the MIL has stayed off since, however, it shows P0073 Permanent ...

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2007 - Ambient Temp Gauge Not Working

The ambient temp gauge on my '07 Santa Fe stopped working, all I was getting was flashing bars across thee bottom. Someone in a thread said there was a TBS about that. I went to my Hyundai dlr and got a copy of the TSB. It was actually pretty easy to take everything apart. The problem was that there were no wires the color I was looking for, also, there were no wires connected to the terminal as shown in the TSB. I went back to my dealer, and after a little research, found that the TSB did not pertain to my car because it was a late model year production. I was told that to fix the problem on my car, all for the fuse blocks would have to be replaced. Shortly after that, I started getting erroneous readings, eg:126 degrees. Now it is reading correctly, but who knows for how long.

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: How To Get Ambient Temp To Read On Dash Display

New 2015 King Ranch. Has the navigation screen where it displays the outside temp. Just watched a youtube video where another 6.7 truck had their ambient temp displayed on the dash screen between the speedo and RPM gauges.

Also going under "gauge mode", it shows tranny and engine oil temp, move over one position it shows compass, and move over third, it shows nothing. What this third position is supposed to be for?

Mercedes-benz - C-class :: 1996 - Outside Ambient Air Sensor Gone Bad

I have a 1996 Mercedes C280. The outside ambient air sensor has gone bad and now reads about 30 degrees F high. There are two types of sensors for this model and year. One is a plug-in sensor that looks like a small pointy cone. The other is a long cable with a metal cylinder at the end that looks like an old-style stereo headphones jack (the thick kind). I have this second type.

I would like to know whether, instead of replacing the whole wire and sensor combination, which involves taking out the instrument cluster and rerunning the wire, I can simply cut off the wire at the sensor end and solder in a new sensor (cut off from a new part).

I am wondering whether it would be possible to just cut the existing cable near the sensor end and then solder in one of the pointy cones. There is a youtube video that shows replacement of a similar type of pointy cone sensor on a BMW, and it looks like the assembly that accepts the sensor is the same, so if I couldn't find a Mercedes plug-in receiver assembly for my old car, I could maybe use the BMW one and then plug in the Mercedes sensor. That would let me do another plug-in later without resoldering.

Since this sensor has gone bad once before, I have to think that a replacement won't last more than five years or so.

I am not sure whether the outside temperature has an effect on other aspects of the car, such as injection mix. I presume it has to go through the on-board computer, because it must be the signal for the little snowflake that appears on the dash when the outside temperature drops to freezing at the road level. Whether leaving the sensor alone and just living with a high reading will cause problems? Right now when the outside temp is around 70 degrees F the sensor reads about 105 degrees F.

Golf/GTI VI :: 2011 - Gauge Cluster Ambient Light Sensor?

Noticed today that when I was in a parking garage the gauge lights were off, but when I pulled out into the sun they slowly illuminated. This must mean there is an ambient light sensor, which I didn't know, and can't that be tapped for an automatic headlight retrofit?

Have a 2011 TDI is that matters.....

Passat (B6) :: Temp Sensor Is Leaking?

I got a set of new alloy's for my value edition, but one of the TPMS sensors will not seal correctly and is leaking. So, what to do. If I took the sensor out of the spare to use in place of the sensor that we can't get to seal, and just put a normal valve stem in the spare if the TPMS would freak out? I thought that I read that the wheels have to be rotating for the sensors to communicate with the car. Or, maybe this problem sensor would seal in the steel rim of the spare.

Anyway, I just want to get these new wheels on the car! It looks awful with 3 alloys and one steel wheel right now!

Passat (B5) :: Temp / O2 Sensor Came On - Battery Is Damaged?

Man, do I long for the days of carburated engines and distributor caps. Problems were obvious and so were the fixes. About 2 months ago, my engine light came on. There were no symptoms of any problems. Plugged in VAG COM and got the codes. They pointed to a possible faulty temp sensor and a possible bad O2 sensor. I grabbed my multimeter and tested both. They checked out withing specs. I read about a problem with the OEM temp sensor and replaced it for $4.50. A new O2 sensor is about $125. I didn't feel like wasting $125 on a perfectly good O2 sensor. So I waited until I could afford to take it to VW to let it be their problem at $90/hour.

Last week, the car was hard-starting from what seemed to be a low battery. All the voltages tested fine, so I called a friend with a load tester to test it on the weekend. Before the weekend came, I had to get jumped once and pop-start a couple other times. I needed a new battery. After all, it was the original, oem battery.

48 battery for my 2001.5 Passat. This battery does not fit. It needs a group 91. This was a pain in the a&$ to locate and one expensive battery at $119 before tax and core charge.

The silver lining, however, is that replacing the battery seems to have made my engine problems disappear. I have dome the requisite amount of driving to reproduce an engine light, but it has not re-appeared. VAG COM reported that everything is A-OK. I would never have guessed to replace the battery to fix the codes I was getting.

Anyway, take note, I am not sure what lesson I leared here, if any, but it's worth having this knowledge if you ever run into this elusive problem.
BTW, I also undestand that you can fix a faulty headlight by kicking your Passat in the tailpipe.

Passat (B5) :: CEL Code P1296 - Coolant Temp Sensor?

I was driving today when the CEL came on, I scanned the car which gave me 1 code: P1296.

I googled it and said it is possibly the coolant temp sensor?

The Engine temp was normal at 190' or just below even after quite a bit of driving today.

Would the problem just be the sensor or should I be looking for other problems as well?
