Passat (B5) :: Cylinder 2 Misfire On Cold Start Ignition

Mar 12, 2012

I get a cold start ignition miss on cyl #2, then goes away (with a little revving), car then runs 100%. No problems during hot re-start. 2005 1.8T AWM. I replaced all four plugs (NGK OEM), all four coils (OEM latest rev), Coolant temp sensor (temp gauge was flaky). No other codes other than Cyl#2 miss and Random Cyl miss. Could I have a leaking (fuel dribbles out) injector on Cyl #2, causing a too-rich misfire when the car is cold started??

Kia - Rio :: 2007 - Misfire In The 3rd Ignition Cylinder

I have an 07 kia rio, I had a misfire in the 3rd ignition cylinder. When I opened it it had oil in it. So I cleaned it out and put a new spark plug in it and change to a thicker oil. A few hour later wet to drive it and after five minute the car shut down. When I was able to get it to turn on, it started to knock. I got it check and said misfire in the 1st cylinder, So I changed out all the ignition coil one by one it didn't work till I got to the last one, the knock went away for a few minutes then came back. So I put the originals back it and the knock is gone but it still misfiring with the check engine light flashing or staying light.

Passat (B6) :: 2006 - CEL Just Came Up / Cold Start Misfire

Bought a 2006 (later production) with 25,000 miles over the weekend. Couldn't pass up the price and the warranty (1 year left + CPO). Picked up the car Saturday at noon..... had to drive to DC for business and the CEL came on when I turned on the car this morning. I researched at lunch that it could be a cold start misfire but I am already pretty heated about this. When I get home tonight I am going to plug it in to my OBDII scanner and see what I can pull. If it is something bad.... I am giving it back to the dealership.

Passat (B5) :: 2001 - P0430 Code / Stutter And Misfire After Cold Start

2001 V6 Passat with 125k miles throwing a P0430 code.

Having trouble on cold starts, takes about 10 minutes to finally get it to turn over. When it does the idle is extremely rough. For the first 1/4 mile the car bucks, stutters, and misfires. After that it runs fine and starts fine when already warm. I am noticing slightly decreased gas mileage but nothing major.

Valve cover gaskets were replaced 2 months ago, but were leaking oil for at least a year before I could afford to have them replaced. I am still noticing some oil leakage, however not as much as before. I have had both O2 sensors replaced twice in the past 5 years. Timing belt was replaced at 98k. What might be causing the starting issues?

Passat (B5) :: 2001 - CEL Came On / Misfire On Cylinder 2?

my dad has a 2001 Passat and he recently had his check engine light come on. We had it checked by a guy who owns a tester (snap on) and it comes up with a misfire fault on cyl #2. Wire looks good, I didn't have tools with me so I couldn't take a plug out, but do you think it could be a bad spark plug? Bad coil? Car has 89K on it.

Passat (B7) :: Flashing CEL - Cylinder Misfire At 50K Miles

Today I started up my 2013 Passat SEL up and it started shaking and idling very strange. A few seconds later I had a flashing CEL so I decided to turn her off. I waited about 5 minutes (after cursing for about 4.5 if those minutes) and tried again. This time the car started and everything was fine, no CEL, no other issues. I drove for about 10 miles, shut off the engine and re-started about 5 more times with no issues.

I just had the car in for the 50K mile service at VW and everything checked out ok. I copied the VAGCON report below and I also sent it to my service manager to get his opinion. What I should do?

Passat (B5) :: Cylinder 2 Misfire / Does Not Move With Coil?

My brother has a 98 turbo passat which is reporting misfire on cylinder #2. We swapped the coils between cylinder #2 and each one of the other cylinders and the problem did not move, making me beleive the coil is not at fault. What else should we check?

Passat (B5) :: Multiple Cylinder Misfire Randomly

The Problem: Multiple Cylinder Random Misfire, Misfire on Cyl 2 and Cyl 3 codes. Runs fine on highway after first start in the am. Begins to misfire badly/throw code within 1 mile after exiting highway driving and starting "stop and go" city driving

The Car: 1999 VW Passat 1.8t "AEB" engine code

192,xxx miles. Greedspeed/Neuspeed ECU. All else is stock

****ICM module replaced less than 1000 miles ago due to misfire/similar problem. All was fine until now*****

Compression tested (cyl 1-4): 155lbs, 150lbs, 145lbs, 155lbs

Repairs/troubleshooting tried already:

Swapped cyl 2 and 3 coils for cyl 1 and 4. Result: problem remains / same error codes (cyl 2 and 3 misfire / random misfire)
Swapped cyl 2 and 3 injectors for cyl 1 and 4. Result: no change, problem remains

Tech is suggesting fuel system cleaning (to eliminate any carbon deposits in cylinders and clean injectors). Then look at replacing injectors if problem persists. Could I have another bad ICM?

Passat (B5) :: 1.8T - Rough Idle / CEL Came On / Misfire On Cylinder 4 And 2

So every once in a while I would start my car and get a rough idle but not too bad. I got a cel after a few times of this happening. I had a misfire on 1 and 4 and possible misfire on 2. It was ok for a a couple days. But during the last few days I'll start it up and it's fine. But then if I shut it off and restart it will have a rough idle again. Also today I got gas and then it rough idled and when I would shift or put it in neutral the rpm would stay up and drop slowly down. Like if I shifted gears I could almost do it without the rpms dropping at all. I've got 110k. ??

Passat (B6) :: New Plugs / Coils - Misfire On Cylinder 2 Or 4

Replaced plugs and coils after I got a misfire on cylinder 2. (cheap made in china coil packs off of autoparts warehouse)

Also, plugs had 30k miles on them with original packs. Got it again.

Replaced coil on cylinder 2. Got it again.

Bought Denso double platinums. Got it again.

Moved coil packs around. Misfire on cylinder 4.

Checked plugs, good dry non corroded. Its always 2 or 4.. not 1 or 3

Slow drive with less than 30% gas pedal action it runs "ok". If I go uphill or need to step on it, not happening. Bucks like a mule.

I dont think its the fuel injector... Ordered the red audi packs off europaparts. Might need to check connections. what do i do?

I've been also reading that it could be the cam follower. I'm willing to check it and then force the dealer to fix it under the extended warranty, but if its broken I cant put it back in. The dealer is 50 miles from me.

It happened a morning I was out of gas and used .... regular! But did put in super right after that. I had spare regular gas in a container (fresh) for the generator.

Then used fuel additives. I have also been using fuel additives every other fill up just to protect injectors. I know it wont do anything other than that because of direct injection.

I have a 98 1.8T passat. The number one cylinder won't fire, according to my checks, the ignition coil is not being activated by the CPU, (no current at the connector only ground) what could cause this problem. Any way to check the crank or cam sensor.
