In the morning when I back down the driveway with slight braking, the brakes make a loud hollow squeaky sound in a tunnel. The rear brakes were changed about 2 months ago.
View 5 RepliesAfter having rear disc pads replaced, my 2003 Toyota Avalon makes a terrible noise backing out of the driveway in the morning. I think it must be rust or something--it never happens in ultra-dry weather. It is a very loud squeaking and moaning. It only happens backing up, and it goes away after a bit of driving. Normally I would not worry about what is likely a bit of surface rust, but this is INTENSE. Like, the neighbors across the street stare at us. Should I worry about this, or just live with it since the brakes perform fine after this initial period?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 Ford Escape, and today I noticed that while backing out of my driveway (downhill) as I pressed the brake pedal it made this grinding noise, but when I got out of the car I looked through the tires and the rotors and pads were fine. I did not get a chance to check the inner side of the rotor or pad yet. What else could this noise be if it's not the brakes? It only makes this noise when I press the brake pedal which is why I thought it was the brakes.

View 1 RepliesI readied my Prius and was backing out my driveway. The ICE started and was misfiring very badly, sounded like it was barely running, making all kinds of clatter.
I stopped, put the car in park, and the idle was very rough, sounded like it was trying to clear itself from being flooded. There were no warning lights or blinking check engine lights, so I drove off.
Heres where things get freaky. If I accelerated any more than 1/4 of the gas pedal, the car would buck and the ICE would shut off completely. Then when I let go of the gas, the ICE would start back up. If i feathered the gas lightly, the ICE would stay running. After the car warmed up, this behavior disappeared.
My 2015 is making a strange noise most noticeable when making a slight right turn up a driveway. It sounds like a spring popping.
View 3 RepliesOur 2008 Rav4 (4 cylinder) has on more than one occasion come up with a loud clunking sound when backing up our steep (~ 20% grade) driveway. It feels like it has popped out of gear or even into a forward gear. The first time it happened (a couple of months ago) it was taken directly to the dealer who found nothing. It happened again today - on two attempts to back up the driveway. If the phenomenon correlates with anything, it's higher air temperatures and after a longish (> 30 minute) drive. Any clues?
View 5 RepliesAfter returning from about a 5 hr roadtrip, I backed my snowmobile trailer up my steep driveway in 4wd and the truck did not want to move after that. The truck is an '05 SCREW 4X4 5.4L with about 110,000 miles on it. Trailer is probably around 1,000 lbs with the snowmobile on it.
The driveway is steep and short. That combined with the 90 degree turn to get in and some uneven terrain and part the path onto slippery frozen grass makes for a bit of a rodeo trip backwards up the driveway with a trailer.
Anyway, after getting the trailer up into it's place, I unhooked it, switched back to 2wd, disengaged the parking brake, and put it into drive. The truck didn't roll which was weird as it's now in drive pointed down hill. With about 1/4 - 1/3 throttle, it crept forward. Again, this is down hill. I got out walked around the truck (make sure I didn't forget to unhook anything etc) and tried again. Same thing.
Once I made it to the fairly level street, the truck would still only move, barely, with about 1/4 - 1/3 throttle. Now it was like some of the wheels were free but at least one had to break traction with the pavement to allow the truck to move forward. So with constant pressure on the accelerator it would chirp one or more of the wheels a bit at a time as it crept forward. Acted like it was in some sort of imaginary tug of war. After about 40' of driving it worked itself out. I've driven about 10 miles since and seems just fine.
I'm concerned because I plan to do this frequently with this trailer and in the summer frequently with a boat weighing about 3,500 lbs although shouldn't need 4wd in the summer.
I have had literally no issues with my 2004 F250 Super Duty. Went out and started the truck like every other time for the past 13 years. Started backing out of the driveway and burped the throttle and it just quit??
I put back into park and it rolled over for about a minute and finally caught. When i put it back into gear i had zero throttle response. I have a NOx sensor fault code and and EGR fault code. I replaced the FICM 2 years ago.
I have started to hear a slight (but getting louder) squeal from my brakes when I am braking from moderate speeds (20 mph and under). I know that the car had new stock brakes put on it less than a year ago. What I should do about it?
Stock 1.8T 5spd 2001 discs all around.
Ever since I took my 18" wheels off for the winter and put the stock VW 16's with snow tires I have on multiple occasions almost rear ended the car in front of me when I experienced what seemed like a loss of brake pressure. The brake pedal did not feel spongy or anything but often in this situation the abs brakes seem to kick in for no reason. I feel a slight pulsation in the brake pedal which I can only assume is an activation of abs. I'm wondering if this slight pulsation (1 second duration ) is causing my brakes to be less effective. The pavement has been completely dry and I was not traveling fast enough, nor pressing the brakes hard enough to cause the tires to lock and trip the abs.
View 4 RepliesI have an early production 2008 2.0T 6MT. The car has just over 2000 miles on the clock. I noticed that early in the morning, when it's cold, pulling out of my driveway, I hear a clunk from the front end. It doesn't always happen. Also, on the highway, the car feels like it wanders left and right, certainly more than my old B5.5 did, and in general it pulls to the left and the steering wheel sits slightly to the right. I found the following TSB on this site: [URL] .... My question is, this TSB doesn't mention anywhere that an alignment should be performed as part of the service. Should that be done? I'm going to take it to the dealer tomorrow.

I know the brakes are different, so I'm not sure if this is normal or if it means my brake pads need replacing? Car didn't come with an owners manual .
View 6 RepliesI have had this problem since day one. The idle seems to be very rough once you give it some gas and drive the car it runs smooth as silk. The dealer told me that is the wayit should be due to the narrow V6 with one head cylinder. I have had an 02 Passat V6 and I dont remember it having a rough idle.
My other issue is again since day one when I am moving very slow like when I am backing out of my drive way there is what I would describe as a grinding sound. It does it all the time forwards and back, all day not just the first thing in the morning. Again the dealer says it is normal.
I just had my first oil change about 2 weeks ago and was hoping these were just thing that would be addressed then but they dont seem to be better or worse always the same.
So recently my car has been making almost a crunching noise in the front end of my car usually pulling out of the driveway or hitting any type of bump. But it doesn't seem to always happen. It's a louder crunch when it's colder out. It almost sounds like a rusty door being closed/opened rather then a crunch. My car has just about 77k on it and this is the only issue I have with it.
View 16 RepliesI just bought a b5.5 Passat 5-speed glx... fully loaded, a nice package. It has 67k. I just did the timing belt, valve cover gaskets, and cam tensioner adjuster gaskets. I park on a slanted driveway so the car sits on an angle all night. Only when i start up first in the morning, it makes the noise as if the oil isn't rushing up through the engine all the way, and makes the clicking noise in the motor..but any other startup throughout the day is fine.
Only the first in the am. you guys think its just because i park on a hill type driveway? What else it could be.. After I start driving for like 10 minutes, I also hear like a little whining/vacuum noise more noticeably in first gear, idk if that has anything to do with it? I haven't checked the oil level since i got the car back from the shop, but i know i should maybe they forgot to add an extra quart or something.
I have noticed for some time, over bumps that the cabin makes lots of noise. It doesn't sound solid, it almost gives a hollow noise when going over a bump or pot hole in the road. I hate that it doesn't sound solid. The noise resonates from the rear. Almost like a plunk, plunk noise.
View 5 RepliesI have a 1999 cadillac Deville that my mechanic says needs a new front strut mount. My symptoms are mostly in cold weather a very slight groan when parking the vehicle or turning into my driveway. It seems like it happens when the steering wheel is on its return back to center and it can be felt slightly in the wheel and heard as the sound a zip tie makes when pulled together with a slight groan. The car has been recently aligned and rides pretty good but sometimes can be a little noisy over bumps.

Starting on Monday, when I shut the car off, it made a kind of hollow pinging noise. I have not switched where I fill up my tank, nor have I been driving any differently, to make this happen. This happened again Tuesday morning, but has not happened since.
Then, this morning (Thursday) when I started my car, it made kind of a screeching noise. I immediately shut off the car, and restarted it. I did not hear the noise again. Then tonight, same thing happened.
I have just purchased a 2004 v 8 phaeton with only 12k miles. it drive great except that when I give throttle /acceleration there is a noise (low pitched- hollow). I do not know if this is a normal noise or something which i need to worry about and always the engine coolant temperature gauge is at 200 (which is in the normal range- not sure because the temperature outside is high 102f). it drives great and all functions are fine. Do I need to change something or take it to dealer. the local dealer recently changed oil .
