How do I get rid of license plate holes on my front bumper? I took my front plate off and now I am stuck with annoying holes drilled into my front bumper. Its not noticeable but i know its there so it irritates me.

View 3 RepliesWas parallel parking today, and bumped ever so gently into a person license plate and it scratched my bumper. Not too bad, but I notice it of course. The scratch is about an inch or so long. Are there any quick fixes to buffing this out. I have touch-up paint, but I'm afraid that will look sloppy.

View 13 RepliesI bought the car from dealer, there are now FOUR! holes on the front bumper. I don't understand why they couldn't just use the existing holes to put the license plate holder. Now I'm stuck with these holes and I'm looking for a cheap alternative to fill them. I like the clean look of the front end without the plates and don't want to spend a fortune at a body shop, but I also don't want 4 dots either. What I can do/use?

View 1 RepliesMounting front license plate somewhere other than the "official" mounting location? I don't like the thought of putting holes in my front bumper. I can move it down a bit such that the holes are in the bumper just above the air opening. So, they would be less noticeable. This would block some of the airflow through the lower opening. But, unless I'm driving in 100+ deg temps, it probably won't matter.
I could also offset it to the right or left in the lower opening.
After going through the car wash several times now in my 2010 RX 350, my front license plate has been bent in all different directions. Car wash guys say it's due to not having a full plate holder, where as 4 screws secure the plate vs. only the top 2 as we have. Any plate holder from another vehicle that I might adapt to overcome this?

I currently do not have any holes drilled in the front bumper (though I can see the places where they are supposed to go). I have the black plastic attachment. What is the best way to drill those holes? Can it be done if I don't have a drill (i.e., just with a screwdriver and force)? Is this something the dealer might do for free (I don't have a warranty, bought my car used)?

I've took the two screws that hold the thing to the bumper off, and its still soild as before i took the screws out. Is it held on by the rub strip?
View 24 RepliesI have a 2010 RX450h and live in Minnesota where it is hard to hand wash my car. The darn car washes tend to catch the front of my license plate frame and bend it and the license. I have tried several different plate frames and none worked. Minnesota plates are now the thin, non-stamped plates so they are very flimsy.
I even tried putting a plastic plate behind the license to make it more rigid but that failed too.
yesterday I got the idea to move the plate bracket on the front all the way down so it gives it a much cleaner look and doesn't obstruct the grille. To do so test mount the bracket on the lowest position, then have someone hold it. Then you take a 1/8 drill bit and make the two new wholes then put everything back together.
View 8 RepliesSo I bought LED license plate lights, the same ones Track5tar has (who sent me the link to get them). I got em off the bay, and I put them in and they don't work! The Heatsink gets hot but the lights don't light up in both of them!

Removed the other feston put the new led and they won't turn on anymore..
Change them back. Put them upside down, up, sideways... Nothing
Check all three fuse boxes all ok
Every other light on, inside trunk on, side markers on...
Everything but the license plate lights.
I just bought a 2011 GTI in Steel Gray Metallic. The first thing I did was remove the front license plate holder.
Doing that revealed 3 large holes (about 8mm), and 2 small screw holes. I'd like to repair this myself or have a shop do it.
Is there a relatively easy way to fix this myself (other than putting the holder back on)?
How to change license plate bulbs? The little clear covers dont seem to pop off ........

View 14 RepliesBulbs are fine, I turned the light switch from off to on (12 o'clock position) and they flicker for a split second. What can be wrong? I checked the harness on the rear hatch and it looks fine. Maybe the switch itself?
View 2 RepliesSo I took my GTI in for my 10k service and to have them fix the wastegate rattle and the subframe shifting. They fixed the wastegate by installing the clip but didn't have the shims in stock for the subframe so I need to go back anyway, but I'd really like to fix my license plate lights before then.
Is there a possibility the tech could have accidentally unplugged a cable for the lights when he was rotating the tires or messing with the wastegate, etc? Maybe a blown fuse? I'm running LEDs and I already tried putting the incandescent bulbs back in but they don't work either.
