While I was pulling off and boost started to build up I heard a loud "pop' ( sounds like when you disconnected the hose from an air compressor ). After this happen the car doesn't wanna idle or rev up past 2k rpm'ish. I was getting a ton of black smoke from the exhaust and had a very heavy scent of gas. Does this sound like a blown turbo symptoms?
View 6 RepliesI have a serious issue with my 2004 F250 6.0. Pulling a trailer something under the hood sounded like an explosion and lost power and boost. The truck started blowing black smoke from the tail pipe. I could see no psychical damage to anything under the hood. There was absolutely no power but managed to cripple home. What happen.
View 14 RepliesLast night when I was towing my son's Ranger home - somebody stole all his gas & he thought the fuel pump quit - heard a pop and the truck started running like crap. Thought I had blown the CAC boot loose but that wasn't the case. As it turns out, the tube for the EBP sensor came off from the manifold.
I had taken it loose about a year ago to clean it out. I guess I didn't tighten it well enough. Truck blew black smoke, lost boost, and filled the cab with exhaust fumes. Easy enough fix, kind of hard to diagnose because that's not expected. Just throwing it out the for somebody's future search.
2002 Ford Ranger edge 3.0 flex ... Truck was running fine and giving me no issues. I woke for work the other day and went to get coffee and truck wouldnt start. I could hear fuel pump running and knew it wasnt that, it was acting flooded. So today I pulled fuse from fuel pump relay, and got it to start. Put the fuse back in and ran to gas station. On the way to the gas station it started running really rough, very low and rough idle, trying to stall out. I noticed it had black smoke coming from exhaust. I got it home, and got it to start barely, and it has the same very low and rough idle, but my oil gauge was going crazy, flickering back and forth all crazy, and the idol is terribly rough and eventually stalls out. Earlier today I did put new spark plugs in it, but not sure that has anything to do with the issue. I also hooked it up to a computer and it isnt throwing any codes.

View 7 RepliesI was pulling a empty trailer and my boost started to act up. it would take a few seconds then I would get boost. my EGRs went up to 1050 and started to spit out black smoke. I got home everything went well after. Next day I went to another town no trailer and it started to sputter going down the highway. When I gassed it and let go it had a loud like gargling sound. But it would sputter and throw out black smoke every time it did it. I finally got to my destination and turned the truck off for about 30 minutes. Left to go back home and the motor ran as if nothing every happened to it. What is it. I have a 2004 F250 stock with new air filter and juice with attitude.
View 4 RepliesBought the x in feb, put in the billeted wheel, modified the turbo pedestal, put in dorman uppies, put my boost leak detector on it and had no leaks then. Also put on the walker btm and gauges at that point. Took my chip to a local to get tunes. I was pleased enough with the power, and can hit 24 psi. However, it smokes like a freight train if I give it much pedal. I don't drive it a ton, but in the last week I did a 400 mile trip to pick up a trailer, then 800 miles on vacation in Colorado. The fender flare by the exhaust is now black.
It has to be pulling a trailer or going up a decent hill while cruising at 70 to show any boost at all on the gauge. If I give it gas, it belches out the smoke, unless I get on it and get the boost to 10 or more. Most of the time while cruising along I don't need to speed up that much so it just smokes and doesn't build more than 2 psi boost.
My f350 by comparison usually runs 4-6 psi boost running down the road at 65, and slight movements of the accelerator can affect that number immediately.
I don't have my leak detector with me so I can't verify that I have no leaks right now, but I can still hit 24 psi... Last night I used oven cleaner and got the whole area around the turbo pretty clean. Drove it 60 miles today, and don't see any soot around anything, maybe it's to soon to tell? Is there anything else I should check, or is it as simple as getting new tunes?
I've been told by friends driving behind me that every time I accelerate I emit a plume of black smoke followed by a stream of black colored "water". I checked today by having the wife rev the engine to 4.5k...sure enough, black water shoots out of my exhaust, probably 3 oz. I also see a black puff of smoke which I assume is more normal than the water. Is this commonplace ?
View 2 RepliesWhen I'm driving sometimes it will pour black smoke and make no boost, and then the next time I get on the throttle it goes make to making boost like normal. It has the following thing done in the last 50k. I have a 2006 f-250 lariat FX4 it has the following mods:

Initially I used to get cutting out of the engine randomly whilst driving which everyone believes is linked to an ECU issue i believe...I added some reddex fuel cleaner and that seemed to clear the problem up for myself which is a diesel 2.2 ...
However I was beginning to have starting issues where i would need to pump the gas to get the car started...I changed the battery and the glow plugs and yet i was still having issues. I had the air intake and filter looked a diagnostic test run both showing no issues and then one day I was driving and suddenly i got a huge loss of power and black smoke out of the exhaust....Seriously i had no grunt and i was a hazard to cars behind me....!!!! It was weird how first thing in the morning it seemed fine but later in the day i was getting this problem over and over again and eventually the car wouldnt start without a jump from another vehicle..
Any how i took it to various garages but in the end i took it to Rockar Hyundai at Dartford (i cannot recommend enough) but simply all they did was look at the fuel filter and saw that one of the injectors were faulty...After changing this the problem still occurred but again only when the car was warm...They then looked at the pipes leading to the injector that was faulty and then found that there was a crack/split in it and obviously when cold it was sealed but when warm was opening and i believe letting in air.... Anyhow they have changed that and the car feels great and no issues...
1993 3.0 .... My son's van. He complained of fluctuating and mostly high idle, black smoke from exhaust and stalling at stoplights. He has other wheels so I've had it for several months until I could check it.
I started it every few weeks, it started easily. Have not seen smoke but it did idle high and rough. Yesterday I started it to warm it up to finally pull codes. Temp needle barely moved and upper radiator hose did not get very warm but I pulled codes with engine off anyway and got 116, 10, 111.
Today i got a little smarter and noted that the upper hose began to get warm right after startup. Suspecting a bad thermostat I blocked the radiator as well as I could and it warmed up much more, though still not near the middle of the temp gauge. Shut engine off and pulled codes again and this time got 111,10, 111.
With engine running, got 6, only-- and there's no code 6 in the code reader book. Jabbing gas pedal in neutral it nearly dies, jabbing gas in D and it dies and will not restart until cooled down.
Finally, checked again with engine off and got 111, 10, 110, 10. I think the ETC is OK since I didn't get 116 again but it still idles fast, speeds up and down erratically, and dies. Where do I go from here?
Short version is that I just did the EBPV delete with new pedestal and turbo exhaust outlet and put a new turbo middle cartridge in as mine had blown a seal and possibly broken the shaft. Once I got it all put together, I took it for a test drive and it was building 20PSI like it used to but I didn't have the accumulator and turbo mated up fully so I had a leak there.
I corrected that and now don't get any boost until I get to about 2500RPM and then it only builds to about 10PSI. I've double and triple checked all my connections, boots, etc. and everything is tight on the intake, intercooler, up-pipes and collector, exhaust and the spider, I can't see or feel any problems there. I tried disconnecting the MAP sensor and it might be a little better but not even close to normal.
Tried disconnecting the red line from the wastegate and plugging it with no difference. I'm stuck, and frustrated. I do have AE, watching the MGP looks like the MAP sensor is working. I feel like I'm overlooking something simple but I just can't figure out what it is...
I have a 1994 chev Blazer S 10. that has thesy troubles. when it warms up it runs high and hot exhaust and ruff idle. with a hot cat. Replaced EGR carbon build up at times.replaced fuel pump, and all the senors under the hood. Still runs the same.

When she stopped at idle there is now alot of white smoke but coolant level looks fine. She has about 200 km's to go before she is home pulling a 20 foot horse trailer with 1 horse.

It seems to be running rich and my idle is way low and at the point to shutting off, prob cuz of overload of fuel...
View 4 RepliesI have a 06 6.0 Powerstroke 6 Speed every time I get on it or even try to get going I have no power and I have pure black smoke blowing out the exhaust somebody told me to change the fuel filters which I did which they were pretty nasty then after I did that I seem to still have the same problem so then they told me to check the EGR valve put injector cleaner in it to clean the injectors which I have not done a gr or injector cleaner yet just wanted to know, what it could be or what I can do to prevent the black smoke I have no power either...
View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 Superduty with 193k miles that is bone stock. I sold the truck to a friend and when he decided to not pay the remaining balance on the truck, I took back ownership. The truck was having heating issues and it set at a mechanic shop for nearly 2 years waiting for a diagnosis on the heating issue. Fast forward to the present and I now have the truck at my home. Heating issue was the radiator but this is no longer a concern. When I went to pick up the truck from the mechanic, the truck started fine. Every other day for the last 4-5 weeks I would start the truck with no problems.
I get the truck tagged and start driving it on a daily basis. I've put several hundred miles on it but the more I drive it, the less it wants to start. Now it's to a point where it only cranks but won't start. I can take a gas rag and hold it in the intake and eventually it will start. Once it's running, it runs great and has no issues starting. But once it sets for 3-4 hours, it won't start without some sort of assistance.
While trying to find the issue, I've found and repaired 2 fuel leaks and in the process I replaced fuel filter, air filter, replaced glow plug relay, replaced batteries, replaced CPS. Fuel pump is working fine. I've tried the ICP test and doesn't make a difference.
The glow plug light or WTS light works so don't think its the GP. The CES light was on. Had it scanned and it was the air bag sensor so no support from the CES.
While I was working on it yesterday and after cranking on it for 5-10 minutes, it would act like it was going to start and black smoke would be coming out from the exhaust. I let it set to cool the starter it fired up like it had no issues.
My dad has a 04 f350 6.0 and on his way back from a trip he filled up and drove 60 miles and it started smoking white smoke, after he let it sit a while he added fuel injector cleaner thinking it might have been somewhat bad fuel. Drove it 20 more miles and it it changed to black smoke and started sputtering like it was missing. Blowing a lot of smoke. Took it to ford dealer and they checked for codes and it said the #8 injector was bad and needed replaced. My question is would the injector going bad cause all the smoke and missing?
View 1 RepliesI just bought a 2002 v10 crew cab, everything great form the first 3 months, but then my coolant sensor stopped working, changed it, and the same thing! Only works a couple of times, and the truck started to rough idle a little, and now I have black smoke coming out of the exhaust!
View 3 RepliesMy mechanic cannot figure it out nor can a Ford mechanic. About every one to two weeks, only in the morning, after I drive about a half mile it starts running rough and stalls at idle. It behaves like it is flooding out. When I can get it started black smoke pours out until it clears. I can hold it above 2000 rpm but, as I lower the revs, it starts stalling again until it stops. I've tried blowing it out on a long stretch but at normal speed it does it again. After repeating this several times it suddenly runs right and won't happen again for a couple weeks, the longest being four weeks. I thought it might be the remote start but that theory was busted. I've searched here and in other sites and replaced the IAC but it still did it. Replacing the O2 sensors did not work. I don't want to keep throwing parts at it.

My 06 mazda has recently started blowing smoke from the exhaust and jerking it self when accelerating.i have changed the spark plugs and i found one soaked with motor oil. The car only has 75000 miles on it....
